Vice President Mike Pence will preside over the Tuesday confirmation of Gen. Charles Brown to replace Gen. Dave Goldfein as the U.S. Air Force’s next Chief of Staff.Pence rarely presides over Senate confirmations, but Tuesday afternoon’s vote could be historic. If confirmed, Brown would be the first ever African American chief of staff in any of the U.S. military branches. He would also join retired Army Gen. Colin Powell as the only black men to sit on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. (Photo) Brown currently serves as the Commander of Pacific Air Forces, and he spoke last week about what it mean

I long for the day when the color of a person's skin is NOT emphasized in a news headline or news story. That constitutes true equality.

#2, I thought so, however just a couple days ago he put out a 5 minute video ranting about race and what he thinks. To me it was a punch in the face because General Brown is my era. General Brown essentially called the Air Force a racist organization that needs fixing. No where in the rant did he acknowledge that the whole time we were in together, that there were layers and layers of programs to help minorities. See if this opens and tell me what you think:

Skin color or gender does nothing for competency, leadership, or success. Please review applications for merit, and add policies for dismissal for mistakes in hiring, and workforce reductions.

I would support and celebrate this appointment only and only if his race makes no difference. The nation "grappling with racial issues" should have nothing to do with it. If it does it is a wrong move!

I am certain this is a man of honor and integrity. I tire of minority groups telling me that I could not possibly understand racism. I can understand that line of thinking because I was not born with the same skin color. I do understand discrimination. BIG TIME. In two words, BRAIN DISORDERS. Need I say more. My mom suffered from seizures. Some of the things that was said to her, or the looks given when she was having a seizure, or just some of the nastiness because people don't understand brain disorders. So I doubt that General Charles Brown could understand what she went through but if he can empathize, it doesn't make it less relevant.

This certainly appears to be an appeasement to BLM. If it is, it is a big mistake. If the guy deserved it, he will be remembered as an appeasement and not a man who made his own mark and is a disservice to him. It should not have been made at this time.
