Reche Caldwell, former NFL wide receiver,
shot and killed in Tampa: report

Former NFL wide receiver Reche Caldwell was ambushed and killed in front of his house on Saturday, according to a TMZ Sports report. He was 41. Caldwell’s mother confirmed his death to the gossip website. She said that Caldwell—who was shot in the leg and chest in an apparent robbery attempt—died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. “He was a good person who smiled all of the time,” Deborah Caldwell told TMZ. The former University of Florida star who played six seasons in the NFL with the Chargers, Patriots and Washington, was “ambushed” as he was heading out

Comments:

Justice now for Reche Caldwell will be the anguished cry at peaceful demonstrations nationwide. Sure. Just like George Floyd, Caldwell was a felon, also facing a raft of new felony charges. But to BLM, the huge tally of black people killed by black people does not matter one bit because the aims of their backers have nothing to do with justice.

FTA: Caldwell received a "27-month sentence [in Federal prison] after being arrested in 2014 for possession of a controlled substance (nearly five pounds of MDMA, a pure form of ecstasy with the street name ‘Molly’) with intent to distribute. At the time of his drug arrest, he was awaiting trial on charges of running an illegal gambling ring...." "In December of last year, Caldwell was among a group of former NFL players charged with conspiracy to commit health care fraud. He pleaded guilty in January and was set to be sentenced this month,....." According to his brother Andre, it is the NFL's fault.
