Martha Stewart and Michael Flynn have something in common. Both were nearly ruined for lying to the cops.
In Stewart’s case, she was accused of insider trading for accepting the recommendation of her broker to sell some stock. In doing so, she avoided a loss that was paltry by her standards, less than $50,000.
She was acquitted on the charge that her stock sale was illegal, but was convicted on charges that she had lied to federal investigators about the circumstances of it.
For that, she served time in a federal prison and her media empire was nearly destroyed.

But the cops can lie to you and they do so all the time.

#2 is correct. The police are allowed by the coiurts to lie to someone, as part of criminal investigations.
Only a damned fool would even talk with an FBI agent. And the FBI did this long term damage to law enforcement thanks to0 Coward Comey and his gang.

No they don’t. Flynn did not lie. He was bargained into a false plea deal by the Lying DOJ but Flynn did not lie.

#5, that's a very important point to keep repeating.
Especially as there are a number of Karen's, even on this board, who claim he lied.

He is not being charge for the crime of lying to the police. He is in hot water for lying to the court. Perjury is simply intentionally making false statements under an oath, in this case to the judge. It is a crime and it carries a sentence of fines and prison.
All the stuff about the cops, pols, judges, former pols, etc., doesn't change the facts (I know, I have been hoping so throughout this whole mess.
Face the judge, explain the ciromestances, ask for mercy and beg that he has suffered enough. It stinks but the law applies and we are a nation of laws ... or are trying to be. The crooked deal he got should mitigate the sentence. And then get one with it. The judge is probably going to give him some time behind bars but I don't think hammering the judge is going to help. I keep the LtG in my prayers. Maybe the judge has enough soul that his sentence is a simple fine of $1.00.

And yet Hillary "Thunder-Thighs" Clinton and her ilk could lie their pants off and have (an exceedingly frightful image, I know) and yet nothing happens to them!

I don't believe the judge can sentence Flynn for committing perjury on his own say-so. A charge would have to be brought by the prosecutors, adjudicated and a guilty verdict determined. The only thing a judge can punish ad hoc is contempt of court.

If it's the Obama KGB-Gestapo, it should be mandatory to lie to them.

If the police ever come to house or call you in for questioning, the first and only word out of your mouth should be "lawyer" - for the Better Call Saul fans out there, but its still not a bad idea.

Noticed from one of the posters that they appeared to not properly understand what transpired in the charges and super-aggressive illegal tactics exhibited in the before/during/and after trial of former Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. Where to begin....Comey bragged on TV that he had sent two (rogue FBI) agents (Strozck had a profound bias against Flynn) to head over to the newly inaugurated WH, W/O running this by the WH Legal Counsel. Entrapment?! Obama wanted him trapped into making a false statement in order to have him fired by Trump's administration, so that Flynn who KNEW too much re: Obama's illegal shenanigans, could potentially "spill the beans," about where all the "bodies were buried." Dangerous!! During his Unfair trial his counsel sabotaged his alleged defense working secretly with the prosecutors. Then, the now, possibly senile judge, who REFUSES to vacate the charges, requested by the DOJ, continued uttering his obvious CONTEMPT for Flynn, calling him a disgrace, and said he should be convicted of TREASON. Could this be BIAS from a rogue judge?!! Plus, when rogue agents put a virtual gun to his head, threatening to GO AFTER his son, Flynn chose to "take the rap" instead!! Justice?!!

The judge gratuitously put him oath for purposes of accepting a plea and waivers, which are not testimony. In effect, the court trapped him into a Catch 22, so that by requesting to withdraw his plea for reason of prosecutorial coercion, the court may find his earlier waivers coerced by the court to be sworn under oath to have been perjurious. Simply outrageous.

I'd like to say a word for Martha Stewart. I think she may have been trying to shield her stockbroker, or his assistant, who were just trying to do her a favor. Of course, she was foolish in the first place, to have acted on the tip, but we are often foolish when we act on our first impulses. After all, she hadn't sought out the information. If they had merely gone after her for the insider trade, I think she would have faced a relatively mild penalty, but for the brokers, it might have been career-ending or worse.

Or maybe instead, make it illegal for law enforcement personnel (and politicians and government bureaucrats) to lie to us.

"How are you doing today?"
"Fine"
"Actually we know you haven't been doing fine today because we know you
had a flat tire this morning, so you are under arrest for lying to the FBI."
"How did you know I had a flat?"
"We let the air out. Turn around. Hands behind your back."

#7, Gen. Flynn is not now, nor has he ever been, CHARGED with perjury. The judge cannot, sua sponte, CHARGE him with perjury. He can be really P.O.'ed with him and hold him in contempt of court, but that's about it. Judges in the U.S. judicial system cannot be judge and prosecutor (and in this case, jury), and it is up to the prosecutor to bring the charges. Period.
