This morning on the Sunday talk shows, Alex Azar pointed out that in states that have reopened ahead of the others, like Florida and Georgia, there has not been an increase in COVID cases and deaths:
“We are seeing that in places that are opening, we’re not seeing this spike in cases,” Azar said on CNN’s “State of the Union” program. “We still see spikes in some areas that are, in fact, closed.”
However, Azar said identifying and reporting new cases takes time. …
“It’s still early days,” Azar cautioned

False argument.
If everyone gets infected today, we wouldn't see a spike in illness for 7 days, in hospitalizations for 9 days, a rise in ventilator use for 14 days on in increase in deaths for 21 days. Of these data, only deaths are regularly and reliably reported, so our data are hazy and late. If we make a mistake today, we won't know it for sure for three weeks.

You really don't think the media will be fair do you? Come on, if you listen to the fake media you would never leave your house. Mueller, Kavanaugh, Impeachment.. now the virus..The media failed miserably in every situation. I'm still waiting for Schiff to release the evidence he said he had against Trump & the whistle blower's testimony.

I take issue with #1's statement that deaths are reliably reported. Too many deaths have been attributed to the virus, when in fact a large number were caused by other reasons. There is nothing reliable about that, especially when some officials had admitted to doing just that!

There's no spike because the country has been flim flammed.

Poster #1 IS correct; it's too early to know.

It has been 19 days since Georgia re-opened and about the same for Florida (I did not check Florida's date of re-opening). That is long enough that if we were going to see a spike, we would be seeing it.
It is certainly possible that we did not see the spike because of warmer weather. We will only know the answer to that come fall.

Probably because most of those who are vulnerable to this virus already were exposed. Some unfortunately died. Many were sick and recovered, or are recovering. I believe the overwhelming majority are, for some reason, not adversely affected by the virus.

"those who have abused their positions by imposing devastating shutdowns will owe the rest of us an abject apology"
Why John? YOU didn't and still don't know what is going on. While I have a healthy disrespect for experts, they were saying all viral theory says to minimize contact. OK, we tried that. Did it work? First, was it ever fully instituted? People had to get groceries and some other essential goods. There were interactions of people. Also, it seems that before the shutdown the virus was here and people were spreading it. The damage may have already been done.I assert that it will be impossible to sort out the actual situation that existed and the actual impact of any steps that were taken.
All you might say with some certainty is, if you have an infectious disease, minimizing personal contact is a good idea. A shutdown to limit hospitals being overwhelmed made sense. Did it work? WE WILL NEVER KNOW FOR SURE but it certainly was a rational response. Why would apologies be required for taking rational steps?
Now, numbers have leveled off, not only here but across the world. In many different situations with many different responses the virus pattern is very similar, after a while it peaks. It may have some resurgence but it drops off again. It is almost as if there is a cycle to the infection that is relatively immune to any actions taken. At this point it is rational to restart economies. The primary reason, because businesses cannot survive much longer.
There will be a lot of lessons learned from this. There will still be mistakes made the next time it happens. Apologies for decisions made in dangerous and highly uncertain times? No.

Yes, there is certainly a lag in information reporting and in case reaction from reopening but we have been lied to from the beginning and all indications are that the lying will continue. Many states and counties have been officially open since May 1 and many places unofficially before that date because people caught on early. What remains true is that most of the country was needlessly shut down and is being kept shut down because the doomsayers and Never Trumpers are benefitting immensely from the damage. The daily flood of propaganda from the media proves it.

I have to agree with #1. As for #3’s comment, I believe there was a misunderstanding of what #1 wrote. They seemed to be contrasting the reporting of deaths with the reporting of other pertinent data.

If you are 60+ with health issues, by all means stay home, like you would with any flu outbreak. For the rest, resume your life, you are contributing to Herd Immunity that will protect us all.

The town I live in has never really shut down. A few mandated business' closed for a while. We have had very few cases, almost all contracted elsewhere, and have no spike.
Big cities might spike, but the ''one size fits all'' approach is wrong.

Georgia opened on 4/24--over three weeks ago. Yet no spike in newly reported cases or deaths. Need to watch death count in coming week for confirmation.
