On Friday’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO, host Maher used his “New Rule” segment to talk about the dangers of overreacting to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“New rule: the next time we have a worldwide pandemic, we have to come up with a better solution than everyone becomes Howie Mandel,” Maher stated.
The host then spoke about how everyone loves comedian Howie Mandel, but that his obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is “a disease” that has brought great pain to the comedian over the course of his life.
“He can’t touch a doorknob or wear shoes with laces [because] they might touch the ground,” Maher noted before quoting Mandel himself.

I don't want to hear it from some jerk who wished for some sort of catastrophe in order to hurt the President....regardless of whether it hurt the rest of us.

This is rich, coming from someone that was calling for a collapse of our economy to force Trump out. He wished economical hardship on all of us. I despise him.

For years, Bill Maher was billed as a comedian without any evidence of same.
Oh sure, he went onstage and held a microphone but even before the moronic Daily Show and similar programs, Maher relied on what someone sagely termed 'clapter' (a portmaneau of clapping and laughter). But it isn't really laughter as a reaction to humor. It's that nervous kind of laughter - a hooting laughter that is the equivalent of hyenas making sounds to intimidate predators and competitors. A herd instinct reflecting more fear than strength.
A typical Maher 'joke' would be a mundane observation and an assertion ('If you're standing in the aisle of the plane then move out of the way.'). For reasons unknown this was considered hilarious by some.
In addition, I have no love for what ESPN has become especially its morning show with nasally milk-n-cookie-boy Mike Greenberg (another avatar of how culturally disconnected the NY metro area really is) but credit must be given to Greenberg for the 'new rule' concept which has apparently been stolen by the talentless Maher.
It should also be noted that lefties are obsessed with rules (the real kind or the fake kind) and especially with the enforcement thereof. Infantilism and a foolish consistency are their hallmarks.

Sounds like Maher had to wait in an overly long line at his favorite restaurant. That's the only sort of hardship he would care about.

For once I agree with something Bill Maher said. I have said this to my kids who keep trying to protect me by keeping my beautiful grandkids away from me for fear they will expose me to something. I don't care what the kids expose me to. I want to hug them and kiss their sweet little germy faces. It makes life worth living!

To hear some talk, you’d think this was now going to be a forever situation. I don’t see it that way as life begins to open up around us….. And Maher is no one I’d ever bother to quote.

A bit off topic, have you ever noticed the puffery that appears at the end of every Daily Wire article:
The Daily Wire, headed by bestselling author and popular podcast host Ben Shapiro, is a leading provider of conservative news, cutting through the mainstream media’s rhetoric to provide readers the most important, relevant, and engaging stories of the day.

I have never understood his celebrity. All Bill has is snark and sarcasm. Snark and sarcasm are not comedy and Bill is likewise not a comedian. His commentary can at times be pithy but it is hardly original. He gets congratulated and applauded simply for saying what most average people say everyday.
To those with more than 3 decades of life behind them, Bill simply comes off as a bitter, angry, ugly little man with more fame than his limited talent should allow.

Why is Maher speaking out? Because what the Democrats are doing is hurting Democratic voters. Everything is OK if its only Republicans being hurt. I asked on another thread, who do the Democrats represent? Bill might be shocked to find out its not him. The Democratic 'leadership' use people. They pander to 90% of their constituency and leave them hanging. We are seeing it with the pandemic response. Bill thinks he has their ear, but the truth is he doesn't have enough dollars in his bank account to really get their attention. The people running the Democrats basically view themselves as superior to everyone else, and view all the other people as a 'resource' to use and discard when no longer wanted.
Wake up Bill, you are being used.

#12 - "Snark" is a portmanteau of "snide" and "sarcasm." In my opinion, the word perfectly sums up a large proportion of today's most popular "comedians." Their common factor is a smug certainty that all things Left are cool and that the un-Left is un-cool. There is no comedy to be had among our current crop of comedians. George Burns, Bob Hope, Jay Leno, et al. have nothing in common with them.

I don't like Maher. Never did but especially after his remark of having a recession if it would help to defeat Trump. BUT, if we are to get our lives back, thank God a guy like Maher is saying this. There are a lot of people that listen to this guy, people that would never read Lucianne.com, listen to Rush or, tune into Fox. They need to hear the "other side" of this scamdemic and from Maher they will listen.
Thank you Bill Maher, but as others have said, you are still wrong most of the time.

#15 Very true. Dh and I grew up on the Carol Burnett Show and when we got older were able to stay up for Johnny Carson. We watch reruns of those shows sometimes just to get some real comedy. Pure comedy gold. The circus elephant sketch with Tim Conway to this day makes me laugh until I cry.

Number six, my heart goes out to you. I am going through the exact same thing with my daughter in law withholding my granddaughter from me. I love her more than life itself and this is just beyond cruel. Liberals always know what's best for you. My Mom died many years ago now. I don't need another one. Let's take back America. The adults need to be in charge to end this insanity...

A momentary display of common sense from a liberal. Will wonders ever cease!
Liberalism - because it is primarily driven by emotions and not logic - has managed to create a large number of citizens in this country (and the world) who lack basic common sense. Ergo, we are seeing many non-sensical actions on the part of liberals in positions of authority:
1. Two people can be in a rowboat (but not a power boat) but three cannot.
2. Masks, which do absolutely NOTHING to protect one against this virus, must be worn (and liberals themselves extend this idiotic policy to wearing them outdoors and even in their cars when they are alone).
3. MLB players, when the season starts up, cannot spit.
4. Abortion clinics, marijuana shops and liquor stores are essential but church services are not.
5. Landlords should forgo collecting rent from their tenants.
6. Even though children are the least susceptible to this disease, schools must be shut down, and may have to remain closed until we get a vaccine.
7. If we save even one life, it worth shutting down and even killing the US economy.
And the grandaddy of all: if we quarantine/isolate ourselves enough, we can kill this virus.
For our societal survival, what we desperately need to kill is LIBERALISM.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (who ought to be on the Pence ticket in 2024) drove this blowhard into the turf so many times it hurt just watching it. It’s a wonder Maher has any feeling left.
