Maher On OCD Pandemic Overreaction: ‘What’s
The Point Of Life If You Can’t Live It?’

Original Article

Posted By: ladydawgfan, 5/18/2020 3:28:57 AM

On Friday’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO, host Maher used his “New Rule” segment to talk about the dangers of overreacting to the COVID-19 pandemic. “New rule: the next time we have a worldwide pandemic, we have to come up with a better solution than everyone becomes Howie Mandel,” Maher stated. The host then spoke about how everyone loves comedian Howie Mandel, but that his obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is “a disease” that has brought great pain to the comedian over the course of his life. “He can’t touch a doorknob or wear shoes with laces [because] they might touch the ground,” Maher noted before quoting Mandel himself.

Comments:

Like a broken clock, Maher is occasionally correct. This is one of those rare times!

For years, Bill Maher was billed as a comedian without any evidence of same. Oh sure, he went onstage and held a microphone but even before the moronic Daily Show and similar programs, Maher relied on what someone sagely termed 'clapter' (a portmaneau of clapping and laughter). But it isn't really laughter as a reaction to humor. It's that nervous kind of laughter - a hooting laughter that is the equivalent of hyenas making sounds to intimidate predators and competitors. A herd instinct reflecting more fear than strength. A typical Maher 'joke' would be a mundane observation and an assertion ('If you're standing in the aisle of the plane then move out of the way.'). For reasons unknown this was considered hilarious by some. In addition, I have no love for what ESPN has become especially its morning show with nasally milk-n-cookie-boy Mike Greenberg (another avatar of how culturally disconnected the NY metro area really is) but credit must be given to Greenberg for the 'new rule' concept which has apparently been stolen by the talentless Maher. It should also be noted that lefties are obsessed with rules (the real kind or the fake kind) and especially with the enforcement thereof. Infantilism and a foolish consistency are their hallmarks.

I have never understood his celebrity. All Bill has is snark and sarcasm. Snark and sarcasm are not comedy and Bill is likewise not a comedian. His commentary can at times be pithy but it is hardly original. He gets congratulated and applauded simply for saying what most average people say everyday. To those with more than 3 decades of life behind them, Bill simply comes off as a bitter, angry, ugly little man with more fame than his limited talent should allow.

Why is Maher speaking out? Because what the Democrats are doing is hurting Democratic voters. Everything is OK if its only Republicans being hurt. I asked on another thread, who do the Democrats represent? Bill might be shocked to find out its not him. The Democratic 'leadership' use people. They pander to 90% of their constituency and leave them hanging. We are seeing it with the pandemic response. Bill thinks he has their ear, but the truth is he doesn't have enough dollars in his bank account to really get their attention. The people running the Democrats basically view themselves as superior to everyone else, and view all the other people as a 'resource' to use and discard when no longer wanted. Wake up Bill, you are being used.

#12 - "Snark" is a portmanteau of "snide" and "sarcasm." In my opinion, the word perfectly sums up a large proportion of today's most popular "comedians." Their common factor is a smug certainty that all things Left are cool and that the un-Left is un-cool. There is no comedy to be had among our current crop of comedians. George Burns, Bob Hope, Jay Leno, et al. have nothing in common with them.

A momentary display of common sense from a liberal. Will wonders ever cease! Liberalism - because it is primarily driven by emotions and not logic - has managed to create a large number of citizens in this country (and the world) who lack basic common sense. Ergo, we are seeing many non-sensical actions on the part of liberals in positions of authority: 1. Two people can be in a rowboat (but not a power boat) but three cannot. 2. Masks, which do absolutely NOTHING to protect one against this virus, must be worn (and liberals themselves extend this idiotic policy to wearing them outdoors and even in their cars when they are alone). 3. MLB players, when the season starts up, cannot spit. 4. Abortion clinics, marijuana shops and liquor stores are essential but church services are not. 5. Landlords should forgo collecting rent from their tenants. 6. Even though children are the least susceptible to this disease, schools must be shut down, and may have to remain closed until we get a vaccine. 7. If we save even one life, it worth shutting down and even killing the US economy. And the grandaddy of all: if we quarantine/isolate ourselves enough, we can kill this virus. For our societal survival, what we desperately need to kill is LIBERALISM.

Presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden warns there will be no peace in the Middle East if Israel doesn't stop the threat of annexation. During a Tuesday virtual fundraiser with members of the U.S. Jewish community, Biden vowed to reverse President Trump's policies in the Israeli region and restore the hope of peace between Israelis and Palestinians. In order to achieve that goal, Biden said the United States should restore diplomatic relationships with the Palestinian Authority. If elected president, the former vice president said he would help build efforts with Palestinians to take steps toward a two-state solution if they agreed on it. “My commitment to Israel is absolutely unshakable,” Biden said,

There aren’t enough disparaging epithets in the English language to adequately describe “journalists” such as ABC Nightly News anchorman David Muir, the dashing 40-something actor who pretends to share important national news with America. Five days a week, Muir recites agenda-driven propaganda as if it were truth, while his allies who run the social media monopolies throttle down, demonetize, shadowban, or flat out censor reports that conflict with his narrative. One of Muir’s biggest crimes is his façade of objectivity. Unlike the hosts of the cable news networks, such as CNN’s rabid Don Lemon, or MSNBC’s smirking Rachel Maddow, Muir isn’t obvious.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D-Wisc.) announced that he will no longer be pursuing any attempts to initiate another statewide lockdown due to the coronavirus, as reported by The Hill. Evers’ decision comes after the State Supreme Court struck down his attempted extension of the stay-at-home order last week, due to his failure to cooperate with the state legislature in doing so. Any further extension, the court ruled, would have to be agreed upon by both the governor and the legislature, which is controlled by Republicans. “The Republicans have made it very clear that they don’t believe a statewide approach is the right way to go at this point in time,”

Over the last few months our nation’s public health and medical “experts” have become a huge part of the news cycle; a few have become household names and celebrities in their own right, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, who even made it to Saturday Night Live. Since Dr. Fauci (NIAID/NIH), Dr. Deborah Birx (CDC/State Dept), and Dr. Robert Redfield (CDC), all medical doctors having decades of experience researching infectious diseases, are the “experts” advising the federal government response to the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, it’s reasonable to assume that public health officials in each state and in major cities have had the same type of training and a similar professional focus.

The recent court decisions overturning COVID-19 lockdowns in Wisconsin and Oregon focused on abstruse issues of statutory interpretation. But both cases also addressed a more fundamental question: Is the rule of law suspended during a public health emergency? In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, state officials have imposed unprecedented restrictions on our liberties and livelihoods, acting on the assumption that they can do whatever they think is necessary to protect the public from a potentially deadly disease. The courts, which were initially reluctant to second-guess state responses to COVID-19, are beginning to recognize that public health powers, while broad, are not a blank check.

That's because Biden campaigned as the anti-Bernie Sanders: a "return to normalcy" candidate rather than a transformational one. His entire pitch relied on his high name recognition, the general perception of his likability and his unthreatening demeanor. The coronavirus pandemic merely underscored this pitch. Biden hasn't waned in the national polling since the pandemic -- his lead has been utterly consistent.
