When the Berlin Wall fell and the Soviet Union dissolved, the Western world thought, with considerable justification, that the generational struggle with communism had ended. But in our exultation, we forgot to finish the job. Communism lived on in mainland China and is once again challenging the free world for dominance. This time, they’re doing it with our money. As we have begun to realize these past few years, and as the coronavirus outbreak has made even clearer, China has used our free markets and open-mindedness against us, running an economy based on the bizarre fusion of communism and mercantilism while cracking down ever more on

Perhaps Bush, as a former CIA director, knew something about China that influenced his policies. He also masterfully assembled an alliance to drive Iraq out of Kuwait. Maybe he felt that America needed a break from confrontational diplomacy. I'm not here to defend Bush; but I'm saying 20/20 hindsight vision sometimes clouds our perspective. I hope that every nation rethinks their relationship with the Communist govt of China.

I have lived through all the cold war business, and do not want to return to it. It our government's policies that allowed our businesses to move to China, not China's. Theft of our data and intellectual property has happened for many decades, largely because we did nothing to stop it. We had a house full of furniture and did not miss a few pieces, now all the furniture is gone and we cannot escape noticing that someone has been taking the furniture. So let's change our behavior and quit acting foolishly and we will do just fine, and without a cold war. It is not China's fault that we let them do it, went along with it, never complained about it.

Return the production of American products to America and our economy will recover to to be stronger than ever before. I do not need to buy Chinese "stuff" and will not in the future.

Who are "we" anymore? There truly are two Americas. One bunch thinks it's racist to tell the truth about your enemies and hates America. The other America is comprised of patriots who seem to be at the mercy (they have none) of the former. The "news media" is the propaganda wing of the leftists, and the internet is being censored more every day. I feel the walls closing in.

It may turn out to be real cold war after China buys our oil fields and turn off the spigot during the winter. Don't expect any of our "friends" to help us out either.
Communists seem to be a lot better at abusing capitalism than capitalists are. The don't have to play by the rules.

China has been at war with us for 30 years, we just refused to see it and were stupidly assisting them in building up their military, helping them to steal our commercial and military secrets and intellectual property.
Our "leaders" have been taking money from China to sell us out for decades. And they are unhappy as hell that Trump is interfering with their cash flow, and they don't give one damn if ordinary Americans live or die.
Globalists are evil.

The sad truth is, you can deal with problems now or you can deal with them later when they get worse. America has a bad habit of rising to a challenge but being too good of a winner. Rather than demanding a victor's reasonable rights to put things in a better order, we are overly sympathetic to the losers and too quick to wash our hands of the mess and walk away. Yes, once the USSR fell, dealing with the remainders of communism in China and other places would have required a bit of effort and some sacrifice. Instead we gave them a pass and interest continued to accrue on the bill. Once again, it has come due including the interest. In some ways this is good, America is hesitant to assume world control. We could have. We still could. Instead, we seek a balance based on agreed principles of fair treatment of all. Except, we haven't pushed for that balance, instead letting others steer the world once again toward the rocks. The problem is, the world is strongly interconnected so we float or sink together.
On top of that, we have not even been defending the principles that made us great at home, instead letting the Left corrupt our core values and purpose. If we want proserity and peace, we have some hard work to do, home and in the world.

China has been stealing our manufacturing technology and computer software for decades. They have been sending pregnant women here to create Chinese American citizens and engaging in slave labor in your local neighborhood buffet. I would say it's a little warmer than a Cold War.

Lenin was right, the capitalists sold the Communists the rope with which they are hanging them. Since Nixon/Kissinger we have used the Chinese to thwart the Soviets and their version of Soviet Global Communism. The Chinese got smart quick. They built an economy first on the West's throw-aways, then moving into technology and heavy manufacturing, creating markets with cheap labor and low regulation - so long as the capitalists played along with the regime. Shake hands with Mao, or Chao, or Deng, now Xi and your troubles with "global Communism" end with the assumption affluence will finish the task.
So, here we are. Suddenly we realize fragmenting infrastructure has a down side, especially when strategic and essential industries are transferred while domestic business shuts down operations...while stock values rise.
Patriotism isn't going to bring back anyone or anything. So Boeing, for example, decides to do all its work in the USA...while China keeps the "shared" technology and production price advantages. And the capital that keeps major companies like GM is not American; it's Chinese. Do we expropriate their ownership? So then GM loses such functions as design and engineering that have largely been transferred to what was the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), which has many "joint ventures" and a significant stake in the American icon. (As an aside, did you know the Chinese sales of Cadillacs are bigger than the USA?)
Well, Lenin was mostly right. We sell the Chinese Communists the rope after we have them manufacture it for us.
