AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) -- Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued executive orders Friday that outline how to reopen the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement from the governor has been long awaited, with Abbott adding that the state must be guided by data and doctors, and all decisions will be based on that. He started Friday's press conference with hope, noting that, "We are now beginning to see glimmers that the worst of COVID-19 may soon be behind us," and that Texas has the second most recoveries of all the states.

Won't happen soon enough for my daughter. She and her husband are working from home with a 2 and half year old and a 4 month old. "Fortunately" her brother, an unemployed lawyer, is working as their manny. He even mows their yard.

Schools will remain closed through the rest of the academic year (end of May/early June). My teacher wife is thrilled. She figured it would be a royal mess -- they are getting "in the groove" of distance learning and then to go back in early May -- it would take about a week to get back "to normal," maybe a week of review/instruction, and then finals. It'd be worse than a Chinese fire drill (pun intended). But it isn't a great thing for parents who may have to head back to work and deal with child care.

When it comes to data and doctors, a little skepticism is in order.

Gov Abbott disappoints. Looks like he just punted to buy time and look like he was doing something. We need more. Hope he does better going forward.

I just wanted to slap that one idiot reporter. Gov. Abbot made it clear that they were going to reopen medicine for certain high-need things, like cancer treatments. So the idiot reporter had to go to "will you also allow them to restart doing abortions". I thought Gov. Abbot handled him very "diplomatically". However, I wish that had been President Trump, who wouldn't have hesitated telling that reporter that he was an idiot and that killing perfectly healthy unborn babies was not the same thing as dealing with a disease like cancer!!!!!

Disappointing news. Nothing being done essentially, except appointing more bureaucrats to study, opine, discuss, and dither.

Mandating masks when people are at state parks????? Oh, yeah, I can see the runners and joggers keeping the masks on. That's gotta be dangerous, making it difficult to breathe. That's a rule that is going to be flaunted. Masks up when some official is looking, masks down when not. Why not just ask people to use their best judgment?

Big fat nothing burger. I appreciate how he really changed the food handling rules to try and help the small restaurants keep going and reduced the grocery store supply chain. His swat team has all the "right names" but lets see how they coalesce and deliver. Anything tied to testing is wrong.. the entire world is now fighting for the few materials available to develop test kits. It is the flu... move on. If you think otherwise, please stay home, that is your right,. the rest of us have bills to pay.

The case for Trump will come down to his record. It’s a strong one. 6 replies

President Trump’s record of accomplishments is easy to compile. Most significantly, he has brought the existential threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party into the sunlight. No more nice words. No more treating the Tiananmen Square massacre as a bug, not a feature. The light is on. Trump has pulled the cord. With huge help from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Trump has put two justices on the Supreme Court, 53 judges on the federal courts of appeals, 144 and counting on the District courts, and more than 20 on the specialty courts. The Constitution has been buttressed.

The World Needs Masks. China Makes Them,

SHANGHAI — As hospitals and governments hunt desperately for respirators and surgical masks to protect doctors and nurses from the coronavirus pandemic, they face a difficult reality: The world depends on China to make them, and the country is only beginning to share.  China made half the world’s masks before the coronavirus emerged there, and it has expanded production nearly 12-fold since then. But it has claimed mask factory output for itself. Purchases and donations also brought China a big chunk of the world’s supply from elsewhere.  Now, worries about mask supplies are rising. As the virus’s global spread escalates, governments around the world are restricting exports of protective gear, which experts say could worsen the pandemic.

As we reported two days ago, Joe Biden completely made no sense when he was trying to explain the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill. It was really bad and it explains why they’re afraid to have him deliver an address to Congress or do any kind of a real solo press conference, because at this point they have to be afraid this is all going to fall apart if he does anything live and this all becomes too obvious to the American people. But there’s only so long that they can hold this off. And it’s getting worse, as video today revealed. Biden was holding an event to announce the nomination

Democrat Senator Joe Manchin (WV) appears to have started to shift his views on the filibuster with remarks that he made on two news shows on Sunday morning. The shift from Manchin comes after he has repeatedly stated that he would not vote to end the filibuster, despite pressure from the far-Left. During the interviews on Sunday, Manchin repeatedly claimed that he was not open to ending the filibuster because he did not want to strip the minority party of their power in the Senate, but signaled that he was open to changing it.Fox News host Chris Wallace asked Manchin if he would consider “reforming the filibuster” if “Republicans

If you had any doubts that Meghan Markle is a manipulative piece of work, her bombshell Oprah interview Sunday night dumping on the British monarchy would set you straight. Prince Harry’s American wife accused his family of hateful racism against her baby, claimed they refused to protect her and drove her to the point of suicide. She made the incendiary and implausible charge that when she was pregnant with Archie, the royal family decreed that her unborn son would be denied the title of “prince” because her mixed race meant he might have dark skin.

Nancy Pelosi’s top priority is to turn America into a one-party nation ruled by Democrats. Her bill HR 1 trashes the U.S. Constitution in an attempt to rig the system and make it virtually impossible to elect a Republican president or Congress again. It’s a power grab. The bill eviscerates state voting laws and forces all the states to conform to a set of rules that includes automatic voter registration. Anyone who goes to a DMV or applies for food stamps, Medicaid or other social services, or attends a public college will be automatically enrolled to vote. Noncitizens are obligated to identify themselves and opt out,

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.

Rep. Steve Cohen vowed to renew the push to remove former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover’s name from the bureau’s downtown Washington headquarters, according to an interview released Monday. Appearing on Yahoo! News’ Skullduggery podcast, the Tennessee Democrat said the effort is getting a fresh look after the release of a new movie highlighting the FBI’s secret program to discredit civil rights activists. The Washington Times in 2019 first reported Democrats’ bid to strip the longtime FBI director’s name from the bureau’s headquarters. Mr. Cohen said the impetus to revive the bid is the new movie, “Judas and the Black Messiah.” The movie details

“There must have been a moment, at the beginning, when we could have said –-no. But somehow we missed it.” Tom Stoppard The millions of Americans who were paying attention throughout the 2020 election campaign all became painfully aware of the fact that Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities were slipping and slipping fast. His wife, as the person closest to him, should have been the one to call the campaign quits in order to reduce stress on the man. Instead, apparently so anxious to become the First Lady by any means necessary, Mrs. Biden continued to push her failing husband’s campaign forward as if he were mentally qualified.
