The debate about “reopening the economy” is a phony debate. It’s phony because “the economy” isn’t shut down. Far from it. Walmart is still open. Dollar General is open. Amazon is open. Alibaba is open. It just so happens that the big-box mass merchandisers and online retailers responsible for flooding our country with crap from Communist China are open.

Comments:

With the exception of the Northeast and Louisiana that are getting slammed by this virus, the American people are beginning to wake up to the fact that there is a very good chance this was a deliberate act by the Chinese, quickly taken advantage of by the "experts" and the Dems. It's time to start opening up the economy in those areas less affected.

Damn right. Getting rid of the older republicans - reducing the retirement costs and then voting for the dead. Democrats are the enemy.

I think it's time to employ the Dems strategy by making them disprove a negative. We should be shouting loud and clear about this not just conspiratorily and have the Dems prove it isn't so. Sanction China to the bottom of the sea, withhold financial support and cast out UN/WHO from New York. Bring back manufacturing from China and not let this catastrophe go to waste, as a certain former mayor of Chi-town used to say.

Why would China be mad at the US Trump finally cleaned up the trade swamps with them. Now they will not have to write so many under the table checks made out to our crooked politicians getting rich so fast.

The economy may not be shut down, but that must come as a surprise to all the restaurants and small businesses that aren't open. Also to the wait staff and all the other workers, including those who work in state and national parks and small manufacturing, who aren't drawing a pay check. I'm so tired of reading how bad things are when all it would take is a few governors to rescind the close down orders. To hell with the virus. I'm ancient but still willing to risk it for freedom.

This isn't a phony debate. Yes, there is always going to be some kind of economy even in bad times, that is true. But I do not believe that most of it is operating right now, not with multi millions on furlough, wondering if they will have a job to return to. Not with doctor's offices barely existing right now, and surgeries are practically nonexistent. How about the hair dressers, the churches, the theaters, and sporting events Curtis? The aftermath of this shutdown is not going to be pretty when the untangling comes. Life is more than those stores you mentioned Curtis. Much much more.

It's always the last paragraph or last line. The President is making America great again but hard to get rid of the swamp creatures. In my personal opinion, the 'hoax' is about China and Democrats delaying the election. All planned. Follow the money.

Post-virus America can be a decentralized, more accountable country in school, business, and government. My parents' generation, that of the War of 1939–45, looked forward to the peace with wistful ballads like "When They Sound the Last All Clear" and "When the Lights Come On Again." I doubt if our time will hear "When I Go Back to the Office Again" or "When We Go Back to School Again." After all, home confinement doesn't match spending nights in crowded basements or Tube stations during Luftwaffe bombings

Count me as one of a diminishing number of "coronavirus response" skeptics. My vantage point is that of a working-class person (service manager in an auto repair shop). My state of Virginia has joined the growing number of states that has ordered its citizens to remain in their homes except for essential reasons, and a shutdown of non-essential businesses until at least June 10th. The good news for me is that auto repair is classed as an essential service and I have enough diverse skills to make me the kind of employee who will be the last to be laid off.

Preparations are underway in the United States and the nations of Europe to celebrate Christmas as first and foremost a tribute to materialism. These increasingly agnostic and secular societies are choosing to ignore the existence of God as well as disdain for the moral and behavioral guidelines as established by Judea-Christian teachings. They are, as a substitute, placing more and more trust in man. The ultimate consequence for a society that chooses this misguided reliance and the reality of God's outstretched helping hand is embodied in the story of a young boy from the streets of a nameless city in an unknown country.

It is the inevitable nature of revolutions that they enter a point of hysteria when, like Saturn, they turn on themselves and devour their own children. While the hysteria of the current aspiring revolutionaries, or “power grabbers,” to use Ilhan Omar’s own words, is not yet at the stage where anyone is being carted off to the guillotine or sent to the gulag, the new face of the Democratic Party is devouring its parents. Its children are yet to come.

Do Democrats really believe that they can push to victory a presidential candidate who is incapable of one full minute of coherent discourse, even in a friendly environment? With more than half a year before Election Day, Joe Biden is rapidly mentally deteriorating, and it is increasingly sad watching him and his wife trying to cope with responsibilities that even in his salad days were beyond his capacity. "The American food supply is strong, resilient, and safe," Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue assured Americans on Wednesday, "and in fact our food supply chain has shown tremendous agility in shifting production and logistics so suddenly from restaurant and institutional settings to retail settings" during the COVID-19 pandemic. There may be empty shelves now, he said, but "in the United States, we have plenty of food for all of our citizens." The new coronavirus is doing more than just creating logistical misalignment, though. Most meat is processed at giant facilities, creating a weak point in the production chain.

More than 20 million Americans lack “meaningful broadband service” as people turn to the internet for school and work during the coronavirus crisis, Virginia Sen. Mark Warner warned federal regulators. “Under the current circumstances, this lack of broadband access threatens to greatly—and potentially lastingly—exacerbate disparities in health, education and economic equity,” said Mr. Warner, a Democrat, in a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai on Thursday. He noted that 770,000 Virginians don’t have broadband access. Mr. Warner urged the FCC to take immediate steps to help close the “digital divide,” including relaxing restrictions on signal contours in rural and exurban areas,

Now, they browse nonfiction. Democrats in Congress have plundered the library of racy novels, dreamy fairy tales and bizarre science fiction paperbacks. They have even stoked their own psychotropic fever dreams. They have scrawled in the margins and defaced every book on the shelves, turning each one into a “choose your own adventure” mystery drama. While Democrats in Congress were entirely consumed with impeaching Mr. Trump, it now appears, the president was conspiring with the leaders of Wuhan, China, and the wild-bat delicacy industry to hatch a virus so deadly and uncontrollably transmissible that it would spark a global pandemic and shut down the world’s economy.

U.S. intelligence has “increasing confidence” that the novel Wuhan coronavirus outbreak began in a lab that was researching bat-coronaviruses, contrary to China’s claim that the pandemic emerged from a Wuhan wet market, according to multiple sources that briefed Fox News. The sources told Fox News that the initial transmission of the virus looks to be bat-to-human, and that “patient zero” contracted the disease while working at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, before going into the general population. While the lab is China’s first to achieve the highest level of international bio-research safety, known as BSL-4, its work with bats had been conducted at the lower protection level of BSL-2.
