Raleigh, North Carolina police suspended the First Amendment Tuesday, dispersing a protest against the COVID-19 Chinese coronavirus lockdown and arresting one protester for failing to disperse. The police issued a statement declaring “Protesting is a non-essential activity” that was in violation of an executive order by Governor Roy Cooper (D) prohibiting mass gatherings. [Tweets] Some protesters gathered in their cars, honking theor horns in unison at 15 minute intervals. [Tweets, Video] Police cited sections 1 and 3 of the executive order. Section 1 3.iii allows outdoor activity for exercise activities within restrictions of Section 3. Section 3 defines mass gatherings indoors or outdoors as ten or more people with limited exceptions

The peasants are revolting! This is going to happen more and more until the lockdown is lifted and the country reopened.

Non-essential, perhaps. But Constitutionally protected. As is the right to peaceably assemble. We slid into a police state almost as if our skids were greased for it...

Oh but I've heard it at least a dozen times in the last two days. Our rights are not absolute. Government can curtail them any time it wants for any reason it wants. History has shown that they can and will do just that, with the help of willing sheep. So go home and do what your masters say. You have no rights unless government decides to allow it.

I wouldnt be s sure #5....... The sheeple enjoy being told what to do. The enjoy even more the government telling other people what they can and cant do. I would wager that if polled, at least half the population would agree with the police in this instance. Actually, I would bet better than half. Consider that 70% of liberal college students believe that communism is just peachy. We, as a county are going to have to have a serious conversation about rights and where we want to go in the very near future. I have no issue, for example, of isolating those who pose a risk to the population as a whole, but not isolating the entire population. My fear, is that the lockdowns that we are experiencing now can be easily re-implemented for any health scare in the future.

Are all of these state governors on solid constitutional footing re their individual state constitutions in order to be issuing all these draconian edicts? A lot of this crap is tantamount to the declaration of martial law. A few court challenges might be in order if the petitioners can find a courthouse that's open and a judge that's not hiding under his desk. I live near one of the biggest shopping malls in the state and it is a veritable ghost town. Thank God for WallyWorld.

Governor Cooper should be arrested and removed from office for dereliction of duty in not upholding the first amendment. Any police officer who enforces an unconstitutional directive should be immediately fired for not upholding their oath to protect the peoples rights under the constitution. People need to take to the streets to protest this completely unacceptable, unconstitutional police state. The government and police can no longer be trusted with the welfare and freedom of American citizens.

#8, you may be right about the numbers and percentages of people who object strongly to tyrannical rule. Perhaps only a minority of us care enough about freedom to stand up and fight. But the founding generation may have been the same way. I was taught that the breakdown in 1776 was: ~33% Loyalists, ~33% indifferent and ~33% Revolutionaries. The moral is that those who believe in their cause need to stand their ground and fight.

What Price Victory -- in the Coronavirus War? 0 replies
Posted by ladydawgfan 4/16/2020 5:45:01 PM Post Reply
The same day the number of U.S. dead from the coronavirus disease hit the 15,000 mark, we also crossed the 15 million mark on the number of Americans we threw out of work to slow its spread and "bend the curve." For each American lost to the pandemic, 1,000 Americans have lost their jobs because of conscious and deliberate decisions of the president and 50 governors. Some 60,000 citizens, we are told, will likely be lost in this pandemic. Are we prepared to accept 60 million unemployed to "mitigate" those losses? What price victory in this good and necessary war to kill the virus? Is it unseemly or coldhearted to ask?

While in the paint section at Home Depot, a young couple next to me wore masks. A thought popped into my head, “Am I nuts for not wearing a mask?” “Stop it. Get a grip, Lloyd.” When many are responding in fear and panic, it can be a challenge not to succumb. Governors are allowing people to shop at liquor stores, Walmart, Home Depot, fabric stores, and more, while banning people from listening to sermons in their cars in church parking lots. And yet, an elderly Christian minister friend is scolding Christians for rebelling against the repeal of their religious liberty. He also believes everyone should wear masks and gloves.

As the media begins to roil with reports of bank delays in the distribution of business recovery loans from the government plan to save business from the effects of quarantine and closure, it is important to ask if there is more to the story than the mere miserly attitude of the run-of-the-mill bank. Back in early 2000, Barney Frank and a lot of other politicians passed legislation forcing banks to throw away traditional mortgage underwriting guidelines to make mortgages to low-income Americans (or no income Americans). If the banks didn’t, they would not get permission to open new branches and grow. That contributed largely to the 2008 financial crisis,

He called for a “sea change” in voting systems, allowing Americans to vote from home, using prepaid mail-in ballots and unlimited absentee voting. Holder did not discuss concerns about voter fraud in his interview but posited that any special exceptions made to the voting process during the coronavirus should remain permanent.
