After President Trump noted in March that an anti-malarial drug had shown some success in treating COVID-19, according to reports from clinicians, his opponents slammed him for playing doctor and flaunting the “audacity of false hope,” in the words of CNN’s Stephen Collinson.
How quickly they forget the lessons of the 1980s AIDS crisis.
Rachel Maddow demanded the media stop broadcasting Trump’s briefings, because “it’s misinformation.” The New Yorker called Trump’s interest in the efficacy of the drug, known as chloroquine, “quackery,” “eccentric,” “a reminder, if one was needed, of his scorn for rigorous science.”
USA Today, Vox, The Daily Beast, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post and NBC News all piled on.

Maybe the NY Post needs to investigate Gov Cuomo. The Governor made a decision that only hosptals in NY can dispense chloroquine. By the time someone is admitted to the hospital, they are extremely ill. I wonder how many people died unnecessarily in NY because of this stupid decision.

One of those damning with faint praise is Fauci... or as I like to type, Faux-ci. With his legalese/medical jargon double speak he dismisses the AZ/HCQ/Zn protocol while doctor after doctor who bothers to document its use with his patients pulls up impressive results. 30 out of 30, first French Study. 78 out 80 in the second. 80 people here, 350 there. That one Hasidic doc used it to treat, successfully, 900 (!) people. While it's true that perhaps 810-890 of those people would have survived Covid, his patients were clear of covid in an average of 5 days with no risk of being subjected to the known damages of ventilators and greatly reduced damage.
I disagree with one line in this article, toward the bottom. "that it can work.".... THAT IT DOES WORK. Even the NYPost is timid.

MSNBC, on Saturday - I forget which commentator said it because they all look alike to me - said that the drug, chloroquine was dangerous because it causes heart disease. that is a false statement. the drug is harmful for people with certain kinds of heart trouble, but is not dangerous for people with normal hearts..

In the urban hotspots, where enforcing isolation is damn near impossible, administer Chloroquine proactively, like is done with Malaria.

Another anecdotal story. We live in Maryland...hop, skip and a jump to Northern Virginia (and to DC). On Saturday, we went to or favorite family owned Greek restaurant in NOVA for a take - away lunch. Hubby spoke to the owner about the current situation. The owner has a sister living in NYC who contracted the Chinese Virus and was severely ill. She was given the chloroquine medication and is now doing fine. He was thankful for the the medication because it saved his sister's life.
Very encouraging!

Speaking of AIDS-medication, my cable service has just recently added the Game Show Network, and I have enjoyed watching game shows to the exclusion of network television. Just in the past 7 or so days, GSN has begun to advertise AIDS-medication. Every show. I am about sick to death of watching black men kissing at the end of each one of these. It isn't that they are black; it isn't that they are men.

The political left and the New World Order NEED this pandemic! They have been exposed as the danger they are to free people. They need for people to demand a big, centralized, bureaucratic government that will be the provider and arbiter of all things.
The ''leaders'' of such a government hide behind many layers of bureaucrats, so that they don't have to deal with the underclass. The bureaucrats are provided with pay and benefits that exceed private business, so that they become loyal to the government- even when they know things are wrong!
Gee, that's starting to sound familiar...

If Trump recommended smoking dope to control COVID-19, would the left scream that the it may harm you and demand more testing?

Trump is not pushing HCQ, only pointing out that DOCTORS are trying it and there are some promising early results.
Using HCQ does not preclude other doctors from trying other therapies against the virus. This IS happening. However, HCQ is a well understood drug and generally safe unless used at high doses for extended periods of time which is NOT required for virus treatment.
There are a couple of critical points pertaining to the media's reaction. Doctors CAN prescribe medications off label if they feel they may be effective. There is nothing illegal about it as long as patients are informed by the doctor as to what is being done. This happens all the time. It is not up to the media to safeguard public health with their opinions. DOCTORS are making the decisions and informing patients. The FDA has given conditional approval of HCQ use for the virus. The media is infuriated about this because they hate Trump and don't want him to receive ANY respect for doing his job. Will the media be held accountable for their fevered and ill considered resistance to HCQ based on their hatred of Trump rather than any medical proof?
BTW, as I understand it, it is not HCQ that is dangerous to the heart, it is the antibiotic azithromycin being given in combination with HCQ that has that possible side effect. Some doctors are trying other antibiotics when patients have heart issues to see if it can be as effective.

And unlike the new, novel AIDS drugs of the 1980s, this time we're working with some cheap, easily available drugs for which we know the side effect profile from as many as 70 years of use for other conditions.

"Saying that there’s “no evidence” that chloroquine works is playing games with words. Responsible people are taking it seriously, and there appear to be positive reports about it."
POTUS Trump should have Dr. Zelenko and several other Dr's that have had success with their "Chloroquine, Zinc ZPack Treatments for the Virus on one of the Daily Updates Pressers....to explain their positive results etc. This would be a Good Second Opinion and put Fauci & Birx and the MSM on the defensive, so to speak?
With no known treatment being offered to combat the Virus. T o quote POTUS Trump"what do we have to loose?"

I notice they ignore Fauci's own deep involvement in the failure of meds and treatments for AIDS back in that era. That is why his involvement now is so infuriating.

Does anyone remember Dr Fauci recommending or demanding that gay men social distance and/or keep their britches on around other gay men? Has his scientific position evolved or just his democrat politics?
