John Prine, one of the most influential artists in folk and country music, has died at age 73 following a battle with coronavirus, his family told The Associated Press and other outlets.
His family announced his death from complications from the coronavirus. He died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., where he had been hospitalized last month.
On March 29, Prine’s family shared the star was critically ill and had been placed on a ventilator while being treated for COVID-19-type symptoms.

That’s the way that the world goes ‘round,
One day you’re up, the next you’re down,
It’s a half an in today water and you think you’re gonna drown,
That’s the way that the world goes ‘round
RIP

Let's talk dirty in Hawaiian -- one of my favorites.

In my opinion, "Prine had previously fought cancer twice. Most recently, he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013 and had part of a lung removed", says other respiratory health issues played a very important role in his death. I wonder how he would have fared had he contracted influenza or pneumonia.

FTA he had lung cancer and had part of a lung removed. You won't hear that part much.
Still a loss to the music scene though.

And oh, what a feeling!
When my soul
Went through the ceiling
And on up into heaven, I did ride
Siiiigh. Prine has been a long time favorite - my husband played guitar and loved his songs and playing too. I hope they meet up there! ;-)

Yes, corona, but had lots of underlying previous problems, including respiratory & a partial lung removal.

One of his best collaborations IMO was with Iris DeMent. Here they are with In Spite of Ourselves:

He deserves a ton of credit for persevering despite major health problems these past few years. He will be missed.

Grandpa was a carpenter
He built houses stores and banks
Chain smoked camel cigarettes
And hammered nails in planks
He was level on the level
And shaved even every door
And voted for Eisenhower
'cause Lincoln won the war.

From "He Called Her Kate." a short story of mine...
He pulled the chocolate brown tee-shirt over his head, grabbed a water bottle, and stepped outside. It was still dark when Kate left for her walk that morning, but he’d catch up when he could see the trail.
“Whoa!” he hesitated, “Chilly for October down here.” Scuffing his heavy black walking shoes on the Welcome mat, he stepped back into the family room for the pale grey sweatshirt.
“Henry’s at Parris Island,” he grimaced, noting the faded JORDAN stenciled in small black letters beween the shoulder blades. They’d lost him at Fallujah in 2004 -- Don’t know what for, doesn’t matter anymore – he shrugged recalling an old John Prine song. Slipping it on and heading back outside, Frank raised both arms, and leaning into the grey stucco wall under the carport began limbering up.
RIP, John
