A Solution to COVID-19 Is in Sight!

Original Article

A solution to the COVID-19 epidemic is in sight. It is the combo used by South Korea, where people are back at work, to successfully stem its COVID-19 outbreak. It has three parts: (1) greatly expanded testing of those who could be infected and (2) effective treatment of the virus with a hydroxychloroquine-zinc cocktail, combined with (3) the product of American ingenuity: rapid development of vaccines. While these solutions might be thwarted by bureaucracy, progress is happening rapidly, and there are reasons why our collective Groundhog Day of staying at home every day while the economy falters and body counts grow could soon be over.

Interesting article. I hadn't heard about the Zinc component before but it sounds very promising! Get the bureaucrats out of the way and let the doctors do their job!

Playing Slim Whitman recordings over public loudspeakers might work. I bet the government will give money to try.

This article is the ONLY reference I have heard to "zinc" with chloroquine. I think that is spurious. The correct "cocktail" tested by doctors in France is chloroquine and azithromycin, an antibiotic. I know many folks swear by zinc, but I think it is more like many home remedies....and if it works for you, fine, but for most of these things no science says it should, at least not in double blind tests. Color me very skeptical about zinc, and certain that it was not the thing that has tested well in France by that virus researcher in conjunction with chloroquine.

President Trump's team needs to get in the middle of these agencies and start handing out healthy doses of whoop-@$$. I have seen this "not invented here" attitude many times in the aerospace industry; if it didn't come from our lab, department, etc., go away and don't bother us. Even if these treatments turn out to be off target, need to be revised, etc. at least START THEM NOW ... then tweak later as needed. Bureaucratic idiots with blinders on!

Even as Joe Biden offers some grudging praise for President Trump, the Democratic candidate who's already lost to Trump, Hillary Clinton, just can't get over it. More than three years after her stinging loss, she's still at it, sniping from the sidelines against Trump's leadership in the coronavirus crisis on Twitter (snip) As she carps about Trump, looking for that magic word-bullet that can slay him, we know she's got to be furious that the person making the decisions and taking charge of the vast crisis is Trump, not herself. . She was the one who was entitled to the presidency, not him. How can it be that he's succeeding?

If you watch cable news, something I have assiduously avoided these past few weeks, you will be told that Barney Fife is in charge of the country, that the President lies, mismanages, exaggerates, and has totally botched America’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. (snip) Real Clear Politics, as a poll aggregator, combines a number of public opinion polls into an average. Their most recent results show 49.8 percent approval for Trump’s handling of Coronavirus compared to 47.7 percent disapproval. These polls reflect the typical oversampling of Democrats meaning the real numbers are likely even higher for Trump than reported.

The media are not only rude and confrontational at press briefings, but they’re also re-writing history about how and when information on the virus came to light. Facts don’t matter. There is only one goal: Get Trump. Toward that end, manipulating timelines has become quite popular as evidenced most recently in this AP report: As the first alarms sounded in early January that an outbreak of a novel coronavirus in China might ignite a global pandemic, the Trump administration squandered nearly two months

While the Trump administration is forecasting some 100 - 240k or more deaths from the coronavirus scare (and lots of hell) over the next few weeks, South Korea is well on its way in sliding out of its bell curve since the middle of March. South Korea was also hit pretty hard with this virus, being right next door to China. (snip) South Korea has a crowded population of some 52 million people crammed into a geographical location about the size of Indiana, a perfect situation for a pandemic to spread – but it didn't.

For weeks now, nearly every media outlet has behaved as though the Covid19 virus was a cause for celebration. They broadcast the numbers like they show the stock market or election returns. It is positively ghoulish. Even Fox News, which used to have more sense, has capitulated to the hysteria; that network, too, is all in on manufacturing panic and fear. They are engaged in panic-mongering. They are encouraging the wholesale destruction of the American economy. The worst are hoping and wishing for that outcome.

Everyone is up in arms about the fact that the Navy brass fired Captain Brett Crozier, of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, after Crozier complained about people on his ship being infected with COVID-19. To many people, he was a lone man fighting a hardened bureaucracy on behalf of the men and women in his care. To others, though, he was a dangerous malcontent who placed his entire ship at risk by ignoring rules that exist for a reason. The report about Captain Brett Crozier, whose ship, the USS Roosevelt, was docked in Guam, broke like a bomb on March 31

The mass hysteria over COVID-19 in the U.S. is driven in large measure by misleading statistics and bad math about the disease’s body count. (snip) The problem starts with the fact that the highly influential statistics from the Big Apple paint a false picture of what is actually happening. In New York City, the death of anyone who dies who tests positive for COVID-19 is counted as a coronavirus death. This is the case even if the coronavirus failed to play a significant role in the person’s passing or illness. This calculus violates established scientific standards.

Shortly after President Trump touted chloroquine as a potential cure for COVID-19, the media triumphantly reported that a man died from taking homemade chloroquine due to Trump’s recommendation. As the world shudders into Easter and the death toll on the China virus continues to rise, the question is: should we quarantine or should we restart the economy before the shutdown kills us? Or, more exactly, when should President Trump brave the sneers of the White House press corpse and proclaim that America is Back? The answer, I think, is pretty clear. It will be midway between the point where only crazed libertarians propose a return to work and the point where Nancy Pelosi would announce that she is appointing a House Select Committee to investigate Trump’s criminal delay in restarting the economy.
