President Donald Trump's decision to slow the huge increases in fuel-efficiency standards put in place by the Obama administration in 2012 was met with derision and scorn by green groups, the big media and others on the left. In fact, it's a wise move, one that will save Americans money, but more importantly, will save lives. Trump's action is perfectly timed. With the economy in turmoil from the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, automakers will not have the means to retool, research and revamp their car lines to obey President Barack Obama's absurdly stringent rules. Auto sales are now plunging. Obama's rules would have required

Isn't it convenient how the Kenyan Wonder Boy delayed everything that he did so he would not be in office when the worst of it was implemented? He tried to avoid the horrors of Obamacare but that catastrophe struck earlier than anticipated. Good move on Donald Trump's part, car sales have been dwindling for about a year and a half. People do not want to pay for the efficiency mandates nor the whiz-bang electronics meant to override poor driving skills and inattention and to allow Big Brother to track movements. Keep your cameras and sensors too.

The article author won't say what should be said that being the C.A.F.E. standards have outlived their time. Time to revoke this stupid law. Simple market pressure will insure that cars with good MPG characteristics will be available to those who want them. I will support any law that does away with the extraordinarily stupid 'Stop/Start' systems being installed in autos today. S/S technology adds about $2,300 to the sticker and does nothing to improve mileage for folks that are not in a stop and go driving environment.

“ In fact, America’s fuel-efficiency standards got their start in 1975 as a way to mitigate the impact of the 1973-1974 Arab oil embargo. At the time, with oil prices surging, inflation raging and increasingly worthless dollars flooding global oil markets, it seemed like a good idea.” Richard Nixon was responsible for this federal nightmare. Since Nixon imposed price controls on oil, gasoline prices could not reflect the reduced supply, giving us long lines at gas stations and odd/even days to buy gas. So, Nixon had his newly formed EPA impose MPG standards on new cars to show that he was solving a problem he caused. As with all federal regulations, the mileage requirements grew worse, reaching the delusional level under the equally delusional Obama. With all of these mileage rules passed by regulators, not Congress. Ultimate madness was in 2009, when Obama and Pelosi gave $15 billion of our money to the car companies so that they could build engines and transmissions to meet the increasing MPG standards Obama imposed. I still recall Ford’s boast that it didn’t take bailout money while never mentioning the $6 billion auto plant that taxpayers built for Ford. A plant Lord Obama briefly toured to take credit for his folly.

I had hoped that this would have been done sooner, but I'm sure that all the evil fake investigations and sham impeachment held this up. This was the most destructive of the laws written under The Zero which daily impact the average American, via their cars.

FTA: "Of course, everyone likes clean air. But our fuel-efficiency standards didn’t start out with that as their goal." Nothing ever does. There are those INTENDED side-effects that evolve, and this is an example. Traffic deaths have generally decreased for years, even with more per capita miles traveled. 50,000-plus was common decades ago, when cars were heavy and made of steel. The toll today is under 40,000. The "danger" scare doesn't play out in the real world. Ethanol is going to be a component of "gasoline" until hell freezes over. It is incredibly profitable to farmers and key to the economy of some states that play a big part in Presidential politics.

These fuel efficiency standards were just one more "turd in the punchbowl" that Obama intentionally left behind as he we leaving the White House (with the silverware) in order to screw things up for his successor.

The Feds should have NOTHING to say about fuel economy. It should be whatever the customer chooses to purchase. Want a 700hp pavement burner? That should be just fine. If you want a silly little Prius, fine by me, just don't try to force me to have one. My everyday car is an Accord which gets 42 mpg on flat ground at a steady 65 mph in warm weather. I have the biggest V8 in my F-150, too, because I haul stuff sometimes and need the power in the mountains. MY CHOICE, keep the Feds out of my business.

In their continual effort to smear President Donald Trump, Democrats and party operatives in the media have suggested he would use the pandemic to cancel the 2020 election so he could stay in office. Don’t be surprised, though, as it becomes more difficult for their presumptive nominee to campaign, and his catastrophic flaws become ever more visible, if they soon pivot and insist that the election be delayed. Last month, as life began to change under COVID-19 lockdowns, Chris Cillizza wrote on CNN that “whispers have begun that maybe, just maybe, President Donald Trump will use the pandemic to cancel

Even as China’s role in creating the COVID-19 crisis becomes more clear, the left is trying to blame President Donald Trump for the resulting deaths. None of it makes sense, and all of it is beneath contempt at a time when the country is still at war with this invisible enemy. On Sunday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told CNN’s “State of the Union” that “The president’s denial at the beginning was deadly. His delay in getting equipment to where it’s needed is deadly … As the president fiddles, people are dying.” While Pelosi was uttering this shameless screed, intelligence

From Sen. Bernie Sanders demanding that a coronavirus vaccine be free for all and that “profiteering” from it cannot be tolerated, to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who said “if everything we do saves just one life, I’ll be happy,” when he ordered the state to shut down, Democrats are demonstrating they don’t know how an economy works. This is as dangerous as it is maddening. Though he is an open socialist, Sanders’ rant is typical of most if not nearly all of today’s Democrats. Their view of profit is that it is an evil that must not be allowed.

At present, restricted information coming from the Iranian government places the coronavirus death toll at 2,234. Meanwhile, the government’s primary political opposition organization, the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MeK), is reporting the number of deaths in Iran as having passed 11,500. It should come as no surprise that the left has tried to use the coronavirus outbreak as evidence that the U.S. should adopt Medicare for All. But the data suggest the opposite. The U.S. is doing much better with the virus than those supposedly more enlightened countries. If you follow the mainstream media/Democratic narrative, the pandemic has laid bare the weaknesses of the U.S. health care system. Sarah Collins of the Commonwealth Fund, a liberal health care organization, claimed that “We are much more vulnerable to the kinds of spread of illness…. because so many people don’t have health insurance

As Congress seeks to move an economic relief bill, Democrats once again exploit a crisis to pursue an alternative, far-left agenda that has nothing whatsoever to do with the coronavirus pandemic. It underscores why faith in big government is often misplaced. Playing hardball over the weekend, Democrats led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blocked a proposed vote on the $1 trillion-plus bill, which would have let negotiations proceed to decide what would go into it. Now, there might be many good reasons to oppose this bill, or parts of it. After all, removing the

With much of the U.S. economy shut down to deal with the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, Congress is putting together a $1 trillion stimulus package to prevent an economic meltdown, the third major bill to address the coronavirus pandemic. That’s a huge amount of money, but a question looms: How much of it will actually help the struggling economy, and how much of it will just be politically motivated pork? Congress is moving on the massive stimulus fresh off of passing a multibillion-dollar aid package on Wednesday that provides paid sick and family leave for working Americans, free coronavirus testing, and

CNN Business calls it “a pandemic unprecedented in modern times.” That would probably include the so-called “Spanish Flu” pandemic of 1918-19 that killed more than 500,000 Americans, and perhaps 20 million to 50 million worldwide. Racial data on coronavirus will be critical to ensuring an equitable and just response to this crisis across the board,” she wrote in a tweet, referencing an article from the Atlantic. “But we don’t have that data—yet,” she added:

After the 9/11 terrorist attack, Rudy Giuliani’s calm presence was an inspiration to the entire nation.
