For years, progressives have told us that the United States should adopt a health care system similar to that of Sweden. At present, the most celebrated advocate of this approach is Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Oddly, he has been silent about the Swedish approach to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike most of their EU counterparts, Sweden’s government officials have refused to overreact. Other than closing high schools and colleges, they haven’t imposed the kind of Draconian measures that most European countries have adopted. Sweden’s borders remain open, as do its preschools, grade schools and restaurants. Even its ski slopes are still open. In other words, life in Sweden continues essentially unchanged.

The Swedes approach to all this is like ripping the bandaid off a wound quickly and getting the inevitable over with. The rest of the world is pulling it off slowly prolonging the pain and probably not altering the end result much. Time will tell. Sometimes it’s best to get a little of the hair off the dog that bit you and just suck it up.

This is exactly how I hoped the authorities in our city, state, and country would deal with this overestimated little bug! Now here we are; our lives turned upside down by a herd mentality hysteria!

One thing I disagree with. It says "Their borders remain open...", allowing Islam to enter, with its charge to kill or subjugate all infidels. Many teens there are being threatened by Muslims, but nothing is done. I would prefer the virus over them!

So life in Sweden continues essentially unchanged. Like America did way back during the early 40's TB epidemic, the 50's polio epidemic, and the various other epidemics we have faced, including the one Obama skated through. Call me suspicious, but somehow this one doesn't seem all that different--except to the Trump Derangement Syndrome carriers

I read a bunch of similar, umm,... stuff yesterday. Let's all meet back here in a couple weeks and see whose approach is most appropriate. From a number of comments it would appear we know all about this disease. What folly!

Unchanged? The place is a muslim sewer where women are raped on the street in daylight. I would not emulate Sweden on anything. They are proud of their open borders? Let's give them our illegals too.
Our approach is not that great either. Americans are so spread out that flyover country will see little activity and it will be spaced over time. Cities like New York and LA will always be places to avoid for a number of reasons. If not for travelers to locations with major airports we would not be experiencing what few numbers we do have. Three months into it and a couple of thousand deaths? This is not a pandemic.

Yes, this is a reasonable approach.
And "Deborah Birx, response coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force, said last week that the Food and Drug Administration is already evaluating several serologic tests and hopes to approve at least one within a few weeks. Managing the logistics of conducting the surveys and ensuring that they are statistically valid will be a daunting task."
It takes time to develop a test which can detect the antibodies after someone has had the disease and beaten it. Setting up truly random and widespread testing is non trivial. I have no idea how you get people who are randomly selected to give, what is probably needed for an antibody test, a blood sample.
Perhaps you have all normal blood labs test all the blood samples flowing through. But even then, it is a skewed sample. While I get a routine blood test each year because I am health conscious and have an annual checkup by an internist....how many 20-40 year olds do that? 1%, less? Maybe companies can
have all employees tested or something. Not simple.

Can we please just identify the people who are sick and isolate them so the rest of us can return to normal? Right now, if my math is correct, only a small fraction of 1% of the population has been diagnosed with the virus. So why do the 99.999% who are healthy have to be isolated?

There is a big difference between socialist Sweden that has a population of around 10 million people and the freewheeling USA that has a population somewhere between 325 and 350 million people.
The so-called mainstream (liberal) media from the get-go has been essentially telling the public that President Trump is at fault for the pandemic by not having an effective medical diagnostic test in his medicine cabinet so that every American could be immediately tested for the corona virus, a disease strain that nobody knew existed before about the end of January when it became apparent to the world that there was a Chinese government hidden corona virus pandemic underway in China. At that time about 30,000 Chinese alone were flying from China directly into the USA each week. Nobody knows how many of those people traveling from China to the USA were corona virus carriers as they were arriving in the USA. President Trump immediately stopped that travel from China, and the Democrats, including Joseph Biden, immediately disagreed and called Trump out as being a racist and a xenophobe for stopping large numbers of possibly infected people from China entering the USA.
Now we are being told that before Americans can really be cleared of having the corona virus they should be tested twice or more than that, which would mean according to Democrat detractors that Trump should have had two to three times the number of effective medical diagnostic tests readily available then the entire US population so that each American could be almost immediately tested multiple times. The Democrats have not advised where Trump would find all the millions of trained people needed to administer about a billion such tests. The Democrats have also not advised if Trump should have had all those tests immediately available, as to why the Obama-Biden Administration did not have those medical test stockpiles, in storage and readily available when they left office?
Who are really the fools here?
