Louisiana is developing into a hot spot for the coronavirus pandemic, in particular, the city of New Orleans. As the Crescent City’s numbers grow and panic sets in, Mayor LaToya Cantrell finds herself under fire. Friday she was pushing back on accusations that she should have acted to cancel Mardi Gras.
John wrote about the mayor’s response to criticism and pointed out that at the time Mardi Gras kicked off, most cancellations of big events across the country had not begun. We didn’t know what we didn’t know, and that includes elected officials in charge of cities across America.
I’m not going to beat up on Mayor Cantrell.

It's become clear over the past several decades that leaving leadership to Democrats sets you up for disaster, or compounds it when it happens. Because of Clinton, we had 911. Because of the Democrat Congress's rules, we had the 2017 crash. Because of LBJ, we had Vietnam, Go back through history and see how many horrible things were the direct result of, or compounded by Democrat policies and decisions.
It's positively chilling.

New Orleans is a major port city for the midwest and the south. They get cargo ships from all over the world, along with foreign seamen from Central & South America, Europe and Asia who jump off the ship and to enjoy the backstreets dives that have made the Big Easy famous. If people want the opportunity of being touched by dirty hands from around the world, New Orleans is the place. I'm not surprised that it's become a Hot Spot.

Not a fan of Latoya but I wouldn’t pin this one on her. That being said she is 10 times better as a mayor then her predecessor but that is a very low bar.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell called the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic “inadequate” and “unacceptable” in interviews with national media outlets Tuesday, a day after The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate pointed out the growing crisis in Louisiana had largely been absent from national discussions.

With Dems, it is just like any 6 year old. "It wasn't MY fault!"
Always, forever.

Mardi Gras ended on Tuesday February 25th, and the incubation period is 2-14 days, right?
It's more likely that people returned to NOLA carrying the virus, and spread it around than Mardis Gras being the culprit.

Anyone with a working brain would have seen what was going on in NY and the rest of the world could have figured this out. Was she hiding under a "shroom"?

Mardi Gras is a force in Louisiana. Not only New Orleans has parades but many towns throughout Louisiana have parades and they're pretty big too. They Krews prepare all year long. Spanish Town parade in Baton Rouge has a dance routine they do every year while marching. Even if the governor and every mayor in the state knew about corona in a timely manner, they would not have stopped it. But New Orleans mayors will never assume responsibility for anything. They're democrats.

I suppose it is easy for US to blame her especially after we see Them blaming Trump.
He didn't act fast enough, She didn't act fast enough.
If they had acted faster both would have been accused of acting too fast.
It's here and the Chinese are to blame. We don't need to be blaming Americans, even Americans leaders.

It was 10 days after Mardi Gras that closures of big public events began to be a thing. Do not blame the mayor or Donald Trump for not being clairvoyant.

Actually she should be blamed
She is the mayor, not someone in the coffee shop with an opinion. She was responsible for the safety of mardi gras.
Trump had closed the border to China at the end of January. A responsible mayor would have wondered what was up. How irresponsible if you simply assumed “trump’s a racist” instead of doing your job. This is an example of Dim propaganda actually harming people.
I would like to know what she was doing in the period leading up to mardi gras, just like I’d like to know what obama and hillary were doing while our embassy was under siege. Was she running a tight ship vetting the plans being made and precautions being taken, or was she on cruise control?
Again, she’s responsible for everybody’s safety. Was she taking that responsibility as seriously as a big city mayor should?

This is not a Mardi Gras problem!
This is a "Group Home" problem!
The first reported virus case was reported in the Lambeth House March 10th. They are now reporting a cluster of 53 cases and 13 deaths due to the corona virus.
Now 10 other nursing homes are reporting clusters of COVID-19.
Other group homes in the area with corona virus clusters:
New Orleans: Vista Shores-Chateau de Notre Dame Good Samaritan & River Palms Nursing and Rehab. Kenner: Nouveau Marc.
Harahan: St. Joseph.
Lutcher: Chateau St. James
Luling: Living Center
Donaldsonville: Chateau D'Ville
Baton Rouge: St. James Place

To ask the question “Who knew Mardi Gras should be cancelled?” is ridiculous! Austin, most reluctantly, cancelled SXSW, geez, there’s been a long list of major venues cancelled. New Orleans needs to cancel their incompetent mayor.

Remember this is the same city that refused to execute its own hurricane evacuation plan when Katrina was headed its way and blamed it on Bush while their police department first collected registered gun owners guns then stole the Cadillacs from the local dealership and relocated themselves to Baton Rouge leaving the people of NOLA to their own fate. Mardi Gras was the only thing they did fairly competently up until now.

She faced the same type of choice President Trump faced in stomping on the brakes of the economy. Knowing it would cause a lot of pain and that people would be angry about it, he did the right thing.
LaToya did the easy thing, the dumb thing and went ahead with Mardi Gras. Who knew Madame Mayor? Apparently everyone else but you. Now you are compounding your stupid decision with a dumber excuse.

Old saying, "Hindsight is 20/20".
It didn't seem all that bad back when Mardi Gras was to go. I don't totally blame them for not cancelling a very big money maker, and a huge social event for that area. I have never been, never wanted to go, but understand that it is a big deal in NOLA.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell should be held totally accountable for the post Mardi Gras outbreak of the Corona Virus in her city. She and her rich cronies cared more about their seasonal cash flow than the lives of those unwitting holiday revelers. She should he arrested for her criminal inaction and incompetence!!!

Democrats always blame the bigger government above them in the hierarchy. That's their whole philosophy. Us little folk don't know what we're doing so we need bigger government to control us for our own good. Because the bigger the government the "smarter it is". And when that level of government proves it doesn't know any better then even bigger government needs to be created. Forget cities, counties, states, countries. Ultimately it has to be one world government as the biggest government possible and surely everything will be perfect. Of course it won't be. Then what?

Want to know what all these COVID-19 "hot spots"have in common? They are large urban areas (NYC, LA, Seattle, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans) where Democrat leaders are mishandling the crisis and attempting to blame President Trump.

I am quite tired of watching New Orleans make horrible decisions as they vote for mayor and city council, and then those horrible leaders make horrible decisions, and then the rest of us are supposed to drop everything and bail them out over and over again. They don't maintain their levees, they don't allow bus drivers to take their family with them and drive loads of people out of town during Katrina, they don't cancel mardi gras because debauchery is very lucrative.
I live in Baton Rouge and this is getting very oid!!!

Remember "George Bush doesn't care about black people" after Katrina? That's what they're angling for here with President Trump.
It's President Trump who didn't shut down Mardi Gras and let the China Flu spread .... in a "Chocolate" city.
Donald Trump doesn't care about black people !!!

Easy question to answer!!!
Honey, you are the mayor. That was your call to make. Not President Trump's, or any federal government agency, or even the governor of Louisiana. You and you alone were responsible for the people of New Orleans!!!!!
The people of New Orleans should tar and feather her, and run her out of town on a rail. But I'm sure the braindead lie-berals will just re-elect her instead...

I live in NOLA and there wasn't a clue this was a problem during Mardi Gras. High winds did delay and rearrange some parades. She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but she has been on it and open about the citie's efforts and situation for weeks. I can't blame her as much as I would love to.

Sorry #25, but since she decided to start blaming President Trump, she lost any pity that I might have for her.
At the time of Mardi Gras, China was still lying to the World Health Organization (WHO), who in turn lied to the entire world. So President Trump didn't know any more than the mayor. So for this doofus mayor to blame this on her president instead of dealing with the reality of the situation, she loses any level of compassion from anyone!!!!!!!

I have to agree with the author on not blaming the mayor of NOLA RE Mardi Gras. This Wuhan Flu thing exploded so quickly that a month ago, it was barely an issue, schools and colleges were in session, sports were being played, people were traveling, shopping and eating out, and life was going on pretty much as normal. Four short weeks later and we are living in the strangest times, people quarantined, amusements, shops and restaurants closed and commonly used products like toilet paper and hand soap as rare as hen's teeth!! If someone had looked into a crystal ball and seen this predicted, they would have been replacing a crystal ball they thought was defective.
