Why Dems are so bent on
passing wind amid corona crisis

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Renewable energy is getting so cheap that it doesn’t need subsidies anymore. Yes, well. Renewables live or die by subsidies, in fact. That was proved yet again this week, when Democrats tried (unsuccessfully) to stuff a panoply of Green New Deal measures into the corona-crisis relief bill — including extensions of the tax credits that have been driving the growth of solar and wind energy. That Congressional Democrats would push so hard for solar and wind subsidies at such a critical time for the US economy is particularly galling for two reasons. First, the wind industry already stands to collect some $33.75 billion in subsidies

Put a windmill on the Rat side of the House and Senate and they would power the entire east coast. At least it would make those useless windbags worth SOMETHING.

"Passing wind" is an interesting turn of phrase in reference to Democrats! This may be a bit off-topic. The act by the Democrats to put their political agenda in such clear and legalistic terms may come back to bite them. Now the Trump team can publish that agenda at election time without being maligned of misrepresentation. Finally, it would be an election in which the electorate has a clear idea of the perpetually hidden agenda of the loser party. The losers can still talk in inane platitudes but the truth will be there for all to perceive.

Without subsidies no one would know who the heck Elon Musk is and the landscape wouldn't be blighted by solar farms that only make money for the government subsidized manufacturers of the equipment. Let the marketplace decide whether green energy is viable and get the government out of the business of subsidizing failure.

Pictures of windmill farms never show the fleet of maintenance vehicles and workers in attendance. I suppose they stage the photo, or airbrush them out in Photoshop. Windmill farms take a LOT of maintenance. Farms in a salt water environment are even worse.

Why? Because they heard some airhead at their book club or in their English department say something like this and they want to appear to be hip. Show them a single majestic bird being shredded and they'd have a nervous breakdown.

Wind farms are carbon intensive monuments to stupidity. Immense concrete foundations to support non degradeable fiberglass structures which may last 20 years and the energy production declines with every year. The generators require metals which are mined, refined and manufactured using energy intensive processes. And there is all of the energy needed to transport materials and product. Then the wind doesn't blow so they need batteries to store energy. Where do the materials for those batteries come from? China Bolovia, Congo...How long do they last - 10 years? And like the fiberglass how do you dispose of them? Just a few of the problems and solar panels have them as well. Nuclear would solve so many problems but people scare so eaxily.

#6 is correct. Drive through that giant wind farm in Benton County, Indiana and note how many are spinning versus how many units are down for maintenance. That cost would be added to the cost of the "free" power.

Kathy Griffin's Trump Derangement Syndrome has manifested itself in a variety of ways over the past few years, most notably her photoshoot featuring herself holding a bloody severed head of Trump back in 2017. Well, she hasn't learned much from that experience that damaged her career. Last week, she tweeted a photo of herself in the hospital, and criticized President Trump over the availability of coronavirus tests in the United States because she wanted to be tested, but wasn't. Last week, hundreds of Iranians reportedly died from drinking methanol — industrial alcohol — believing it was a cure for the coronavirus. Iran’s experience is just another aspect of the panic over the coronavirus pandemic gripping many people and nations. Right now, there are over 100,000 cases of coronavirus infection in the United States, almost half of them in New York City. People — and state governments — are trying to stem the spread of the disease through social distancing, hand washing, and quasi-quarantines.

Gov. Cuomo for veep? Well, never say never — but it’s unlikely. Yes, the governor is up to his neck in five-star reviews for his management of the coronavirus crisis. His TV presence radiates calm competence. Clearly, he has gotten the poetry of governance in a maelstrom right; whether he is on top of the prose of it remains to be seen, but it certainly seems so. And of such stuff are political superstars born. So it’s no surprise that people are talking him up as a potential partner to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. If ever a candidacy needed a belt of Red Bull, it’s Biden’s.

What will happen next with the coronavirus epidemic is unknown, but it seems certain to claim one very high-profile victim: the so-called Green New Deal. Good riddance. The current crisis in the U.S. economy is, in miniature but concentrated form, precisely what the Left has in mind in response to climate change: shutting down large sectors of the domestic and global economies through official writ, social pressure, and indirect means, in response to a crisis with potentially devastating and wide-ranging consequences for human life and human flourishing. What is under way right now in response to the epidemic is in substance much like the Green New Deal

Poll of the week: A new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that President Donald Trump's approval rating among all adults in 48%, while his disapproval rating is 46%. Trump scores a very similar 49% approval rating and 47% disapproval rating with registered voters. What's the point: There's no doubt now that Trump is experiencing a bump in his popularity following his response to the coronavirus pandemic. The ABC News/Washington Post poll is quite similar to the Monmouth University poll that came out earlier this week, for instance. But what is interesting to me is that Trump's jump is coming disproportionality from non-voters. Normally Trump does considerably better among voters than among adults.
