Appearing Tuesday on Philadelphia’s AM 990 The Answer Radio, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said he would certainly prescribe Chloroquine to coronavirus-stricken patients in the wake of testimonies stating it could treat the deadly disease. (Listen from 52:20) A partial transcript is as follows: CHRIS STIGALL:If you’re a doctor listening to me right now and a patient with coronavirus feels like they want to try [Chloroquine] and you’re their doctor, you’re not Anthony Fauci the guy running the coronavirus task force,

Comments:

Apparently the good doctor has overcome his objections to Chloroquine being used to combat Wuhan Flu.

I understand his hesitation; I understand the 'let data drive the decision' thought process. However, we cannot allow paralysis by analysis stay our hand for too long. What is the downside of making it widely available? Well, people can get false hope and go about their lives as if nothing is wrong and that is an issue or taking it might lead to a mutation and that is an issue. Regardless, we need to weigh quickly and assertively what the pros and cons are and act.

There is a huge difference between wanting solid, scientific data on an experimental health treatment and willingness to try that treatment which has shown good effects in a few cases, and is known to be safe for use for other diseases. I have never understood the amazing vitriol directed towards Dr. Fauci. In the news conferences and in a long, one on one interview with Mark Levin, I thought he has done very well indeed.

I wonder how much of this stuff is in the drug supply pipeline. And do we have the ability to quickly manufacture it in quantity inside the USA? Have we shriveled that capability to the point that we can't quickly recover it?

Apparently the supplies are OK. The drug has some problems re interactions with other medications a patient might be on. But that is true of many drugs. The patient’s doctor should be able to make that determination. I have stopped listening to Fauci.

I think Fauci has realized that this is not only a medical situation but also, and perhaps moreso, a political situation in which he is out of his element. I think he has realized that Trump is the President and is far smarter than Fauci imagined. I also suspect that some, maybe even Birx, have whispered in Fauci's ear not to be so reckless. Fauci is NOT indispensable. He seems to be taking this to heart.

Interesting. A left wing friend of mine questioned the use of Chloroquine, and blew off Fauci saying he would not object to it. I immediately went to work to find the cases that have responded positively to the drug. I am horrified to say that the only outlets in the uS publishing this tend to be the more conservative outlets, or those considered to be "right wing" by the left. I could not find one single article about the success of this drug in the mainstream media, and, of course, I couldn't post the non-left new sources or my friend would have just accused me of being brain washed. We no longer have freedom of thought or speech. I finally found an article from France that I could post.

This has been his stance all along. He has said that so far the success has been anecdotal (which is true) and therefore he would not say for sure if it will be successful until he gathers the data from clinical trials. He never said it shouldn’t be prescribed for corona virus. He even said at one early briefing he shares the president’s optimism. The press just interpreted it to fit their narrative which seems to be “Orange Man Bad.”

#15, yes, and he slightly misspoke. Should have said something like "has limited, non-scientific testing". Since tests done have not been proper double blind tests with placebos included, and were small, there are still real questions. The placebo effect is real, needs to be knocked out with specific testing protocals. I sincerely hope it proves out, and would surely try it if I had the virus, but it's too soon to celebrate.

After 9/11 there was much talk of the “death of irony,” along with calls for mandatory national service and widespread support for the idea that it was time to put away childish things. Then Rudy Giuliani went on “Saturday Night Live,” Lorne Michaels asked him, “Can we be funny?” And Giuliani said, “Why start now?” The relief-laugh that followed this impeccably delivered punchline set the stage for a return to normalcy. We could be silly again. We all went to see “Zoolander.” The coronavirus has already caused far more disruption than 9/11, and figures to take far more lives, albeit in slo-mo rather than on one fireball-strewn morning.

Former Vice President Joe Biden almost offered his phone number out on live television Friday. In an emotional coronavirus-related question, Biden urged Americans to call loved ones and people they knew to help get through times of grief. “My message is, God loves you. You know, I’ve lost a couple of children. I’ve lost a wife. And it is incredibly difficult to go through. And it’s harder to go through when you haven’t had an opportunity to be with the person while they’re dying,” Biden said, briefly choking up during a CNN town hall. “Seek help afterward. Seek help. It has been a very long time since Americans last saw such a clear distinction between the considerable leadership qualities of their president, and the shameless political maneuverings of an opposition party constantly lusting for power. Let us review exactly what has happened in this country over the past two months, vis-a-vis the coronavirus pandemic. On January 29, President Donald Trump created a White House Coronavirus Task Force to coordinate the federal government's response to the virus outbreak and to keep the American people as informed about it as possible. At that time, you might recall, congressional Democrats were giving precisely ZERO attention to the coronavirus threat.
