Appearing Tuesday on Philadelphia’s AM 990 The Answer Radio, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said he would certainly prescribe Chloroquine to coronavirus-stricken patients in the wake of testimonies stating it could treat the deadly disease.
(Listen from 52:20)
A partial transcript is as follows:
CHRIS STIGALL:If you’re a doctor listening to me right now and a patient with coronavirus feels like they want to try [Chloroquine] and you’re their doctor, you’re not Anthony Fauci the guy running the coronavirus task force,

I understand his hesitation; I understand the 'let data drive the decision' thought process. However, we cannot allow paralysis by analysis stay our hand for too long. What is the downside of making it widely available? Well, people can get false hope and go about their lives as if nothing is wrong and that is an issue or taking it might lead to a mutation and that is an issue. Regardless, we need to weigh quickly and assertively what the pros and cons are and act.

There is a huge difference between wanting solid, scientific data on an experimental health treatment and willingness to try that treatment which has shown good effects in a few cases, and is known to be safe for use for other diseases.
I have never understood the amazing vitriol directed towards Dr. Fauci. In the news conferences and in a long, one on one interview with Mark Levin, I thought he has done very well indeed.

I wonder how much of this stuff is in the drug supply pipeline. And do we have the ability to quickly manufacture it in quantity inside the USA? Have we shriveled that capability to the point that we can't quickly recover it?

Apparently the supplies are OK. The drug has some problems re interactions with other medications a patient might be on. But that is true of many drugs. The patient’s doctor should be able to make that determination.
I have stopped listening to Fauci.

The Governor of Nevada declared it illegal to prescribe these drugs.

This drug is already being routinely administered to the sickest patients.

I just read that the governor of Nevada outlaw giving chloroquine to patients of the virus. Is he a physician? Oh wait he is a democrat.

I think Fauci has realized that this is not only a medical situation but also, and perhaps moreso, a political situation in which he is out of his element. I think he has realized that Trump is the President and is far smarter than Fauci imagined. I also suspect that some, maybe even Birx, have whispered in Fauci's ear not to be so reckless. Fauci is NOT indispensable.
He seems to be taking this to heart.

Interesting. A left wing friend of mine questioned the use of Chloroquine, and blew off Fauci saying he would not object to it. I immediately went to work to find the cases that have responded positively to the drug. I am horrified to say that the only outlets in the uS publishing this tend to be the more conservative outlets, or those considered to be "right wing" by the left. I could not find one single article about the success of this drug in the mainstream media, and, of course, I couldn't post the non-left new sources or my friend would have just accused me of being brain washed. We no longer have freedom of thought or speech. I finally found an article from France that I could post.

This has been his stance all along. He has said that so far the success has been anecdotal (which is true) and therefore he would not say for sure if it will be successful until he gathers the data from clinical trials. He never said it shouldn’t be prescribed for corona virus. He even said at one early briefing he shares the president’s optimism. The press just interpreted it to fit their narrative which seems to be “Orange Man Bad.”

I think a lot of people have trouble with drug names like hydroxychlorquine or just cloroquine. We should use its commercial name which is Trumpesta®

Is this the same Fauci that said these meds were anecdotal?

#15, yes, and he slightly misspoke. Should have said something like "has limited, non-scientific testing". Since tests done have not been proper double blind tests with placebos included, and were small, there are still real questions. The placebo effect is real, needs to be knocked out with specific testing protocals.
I sincerely hope it proves out, and would surely try it if I had the virus, but it's too soon to celebrate.
