Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) made a major move on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday afternoon, introducing legislation to withhold the pay of United States senators until the COVID-19 economic relief package passes the upper chamber:“If Americans aren’t getting paid, then neither should the Senators failing to support the workers and families who need help making ends meet. Today, I introduced legislation to have Senators’ pay withheld until relief is passed. It is despicable that millions of Americans are without a paycheck in this time of crisis, while the Senate wastes precious time playing political games. The Senate must pass this relief package now

I like her idea, but introducing legislation does not pass legislation and the chances of this passing are slim indeed.

Wouldn't be effective, since most senate income results from sweet book deals, insider trading, and having close relatives on corporate boards.

Go bold. Introduce senate term limits and repeal the 17th Amendment.

Nice thought, but not thinking it through. I want it done *right*, not fast. Cut off pay until something gets passed is not *right*, it's fast. Remember the old maintenance axiom,
Right, Fast, Cheap...choose 2.
I want it Right and Cheap.

She needs all the good pub she can get in an increasingly Califoristanization of AZ. More liberals are moving there to fudge up AZ like they did Califoristan. The more she can show Califoristanized AZ the stupidity of Democrats, the better her chances.

I'm sorry, but this is just the kind of meaningless grandstanding the Senate is famous for. Well, at least she got her name in the news. Why don't you spend your time and efforts tackling the actual problem. Sheesh

Making a fair point in a grandstanding sort of a way.

Symbolic at best but I understand where she is coming from. First it would never pass, even if Republicans controlled both houses. And besides 85% of these jokers are millionaires. So they really don't care.

I have a better idea - take away all of congress’ health care until they pass a clean, pork-free bill.

I like my plan better. Suspend all government salaries until the non-government workers can go back to their jobs, OR compensate government and non-government workers exactly the same with the stimulus funds. That should reveal once and for all how serious everyone really is about the quarantine.

here's a simple idea..
introduce a bill that would require all members of congress
who stymie this bill be forced to commit hara kiri if anyone
dies because of their grandstanding..
watch those "aye" votes come out!

This should go over like a lead balloon. Remember these are the same people who exempted themselves from ObummerCare and foisted on the rest of us. Now if she were to introduce legislation to take away their private jets and their crab salads...

How about introducing a bill called That For Which It Is Intended Act. It would allow only funding for which the proposed spending bill is intending to target. It would disallow any other amendments or as we know it, pork, to be attached to the bill. See how that would work out. Get on it Lindsay and Cruz.

The House of Representatives (Reprehensibles) is the hold up, thanks mostly to the Rictus Grinning Cadaver aka Madam Speaker. Theirs is the pay that should be held up until they sign. The freaking Kennedy Center! JFK is rolling over in his grave! Not even HE would have been so venal.

Insert language in that bill calling for automatic expulsion for any congress critter to make money off Wall Street.
