The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued emergency authorization Saturday for a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) test kit made by Cepheid Inc. that can yield results in a matter of hours instead of days. The new tool is called the "Cepheid Xpert Xpress SARS-CoV-2 test" and will be made available to the public by the end of the month. "The test we're authorizing today will be able to provide Americans with results within hours, rather than days like the existing tests, and the company plans to roll it out by March 30," the FDA said in a press release. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar added: "With new tools like point-of-care diagnostics,

Comments:

This is brilliant. Repurposing their existing test machines, already in place in many labs to detect tuberculosis, to detect the Wuhan flu.
Since it is an automated nucleic acid amplification and detection system, it is truly a general purpose, precision testing machine can work on DNA or RNA.
Superb job.

We have the rapid diagnosis and now the cure. Almost all China Virus positives should go on 200 mg 3 times a day Hydro-Chloroquine + Azithromycin. Since at the beginning there will not be enough Chloroquine to go around those poor souls will be Fauci’s untreated controls. As for profilaxis give half the doctors and nurses in the front lines Chloroquine and soon you will know if it prevents in addition to curing. Deploy immediately by the thousands to stop this cold. All the Chloroquine Bayer can make should be put into patients immediately. Chloroquine is a drug that alkalinizes lysosomes, the digestive center of the cell where the virus replicates. Lysosomes are also required for membrane trafficking in the cell, and sugars are not added to the Chinese viral receptor (called ACE, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme) and the receptor does not make it to the cell surface, so it may well prevent primary infection (as it does for Malaria). This is an awesome discovery by French doctors from Marseille. Our Comannder-in-Chief will order it Deployed whether the epidemiologists ask for more delays or not. President Trump knows a good thing when he sees it. Chloroquine for all that need it! What we have to lose is the Trump Economic Miracle if we do not act immediately. Chloroquine is used acutely for troops or missionaries that go to Africa, or long-term for its anti-inflammatory effects in Lupus of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Your hair may turn blond for a while because melanocytes are modified lysosomes, but beyond this Chloroquine is a super safe drug. The only question is whether we can produce enough quantities of Chloroquine to stop the Chinese virus on its tracks. The Army, having fought in Vietnam, probably has huge stockpiles.

What is the capacity of their machines? Here in Dallas the test machines are at capacity and due to capacity constraints, samples cannot be processed before they go bad, so ability to determine if you have China Virus is limited. People that exhibit all the symptoms are told to go home and self-quarantine.

The FDA approved the new test? Great. The Coronavirus published something? Weird. Let's defeat this thing before it develops any more sophisticated skills. Before you know it, some Liberal will teach it where to sign up for welfare and how to vote...

Two caveats: One, this article puts the cart well before the horse because we have not yet seen the worst of China Virus 19; yet this article focuses on the day after the crisis is declared over. After all, Trump’s critics and all “Monday Morning Quarterbacks” always complain after the fact that others did not plan earlier. Two, if President Trump is not reelected in November, this article is pointless because our future relations with China will be the least of America’s problems. With that duly noted … China Virus 19 has brought home to more Americans than ever before that we absolutely have to divorce from China.

As the novel coronavirus sweeps across the world, some countries are finding themselves in a difficult situation. Low on supplies or money, traditional American allies like Spain, Italy, France and Japan have had to turn to China for help. "China creates the poison and sells the solution to it," foreign affairs expert Gordon Chang told Fox News. China has used its money, medical equipment and teams of doctors and nurses in a high-stakes campaign to show the world that while the United States scrambles to contain the novel coronavirus within its borders, China is busy moving in on some of America's closest allies. These past few weeks have been far too filled with various attempts at crisis-induced power grabs by politicians, which isn't historically unusual. A pandemic is the kind of thing that calls for extraordinary measures but politicians almost (I'm being generous there) always try to get a little too extraordinary with their responses. It is almost as if they are genetically coded to try and take a mile every time a frightened public offers them an inch. This is a truly bipartisan problem. The September 11th attacks did prompt a Republican president to create the Dept. of Homeland Security after all, a fact that still makes conservatives cringe to this day.

Currently, there is no known specific medicine to treat the novel coronavirus, but researchers in Italy suggest that the COVID-19 disease is slow to mutate, based on its genetic material. This finding could aid in helping large swaths of people over an extended period of time once a specific cure is found. The study, which was produced by two independent teams in the country, used "a new next-generation sequencing (NGS) research assay" from Thermo Fisher Scientific on Italian COVID-19 patients. The experts then compared them to a sample from the original outbreak to come up with their findings.

At Thursday’s White House press briefing, President Trump and FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn announced that the FDA has approved the “compassionate use” of the antimalarial drug chloroquine to treat patients infected with Coronavirus 2019 (“COVID-19”). Under extreme or exigent circumstances, the FDA may permit physicians to medicate patients with experimental drugs. The term “compassionate use” ordinarily refers to dosing a patient with a drug that has not been approved by the FDA for any purpose. Since the 1940s, however, chloroquine has been FDA-approved and safely used to treat and prevent malaria. It has also been used to treat HIV and autoimmune disease. Its side effects are well known

As the United States prepares for a second week of lockdown to slow the spread of the Chinese coronavirus (COVID-19), hundreds of people in Italy are dying every day from this disease. And the reason why Italy now has more coronavirus deaths than any other country can be summarized in a single word — luxury. In the world of fashion, the “Made in Italy” tag has a distinct value associated with luxury and status. Merchants can charge higher prices for clothing, shoes, handbags, and other fashion goods manufactured in Italy, and that value was coveted by certain Chinese entrepreneurs. During the past three decades, more and more Chinese

What's frightening about the Chinese Virus is the overwhelming amount of inconclusive information. We're inundated with media speculation and hyperventilation, Chinese disinformation, and data that change daily thanks to the treatment and quarantine initiatives governments are trying around the world. The fact that the disease has different rates of contagion and mortality in different parts of the world makes things more confusing. We can understand why it exploded in China, a place of censored information, pollution, smoking, and primitive socialized medicine. But why was it so virulent in Italy? Surely, Italy's socialized medicine is better than China's.
