The latest victim of the coronavirus: Playboy.
The nudie mag founded by Hugh Hefner 66 years ago will no longer publish a printed edition, it said on Wednesday, citing coronavirus supply chain woes that have only served to exacerbate its already sagging newsstand sales.
“Last week, as the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic to content production and the supply chain became clearer and clearer, we were forced to accelerate a conversation we’ve been having internally,” CEO Ben Kohn said in a post on Medium.com.

I’m surprised it’s still around. It’s been years since I have even seen a cover on the news rack, since I don’t bother reading bird-cage liners anymore.

Well, all of the insightful writers had left years ago so, really, what reason was left to buy the magazine?

In short, they are LOSING MONEY on the print edition.
Technology and the internet have claimed another publication, and they are making more money elsewhere.
Good riddence

They had writers? I didn't know that. I just bought it for the pictures.
They were a rite of passage for every pubescent guy out there. As such they bring back some great memories. Styles inevitably change though, and I haven't much cared for the styles in the last 20 years. Besides, anything anyone night be interested in is available for free on the internet, without air brushing or silicone if desired, and in unlimited quantities. Why pay for it once a month when you can get it all day every day for free?

No surprise. Those who need to can now do their business in front of their computers. I refer to “reading the articles”, of course.

Could any besides this Chinese disease kill off a little soft porn? We always heard people bought it for the ''articles.''

After sixty years they finally ran out of interesting, insightful, intelligent articles.

#12, 7-11 never sold Playboy or any other porn mags. It went against the morals of the owners, the Southland Corp. And, until just last week, it did not sell lottery tickets.

Of course it has nothing to do with their discontinuing the iconic centerfold that launched it's empire.

The print copy of Playboy is only the first part to finish dying. Their online presence was out-competed by a proliferation of cheap (or even free) content, and their content policy changes in recent years were probably too little, too late, to recapture a sustainable market.
#15 must be confused, though -- 7-11 most certainly has sold Playboy. Maybe not every store or all the time; but I'll never forget the first two times I purchased that mag (at 7-11 in southeastern Virginia, during the spring of 1981). The stores had a small 3-magazine wire news rack behind the counter that featured Playboy, Penthouse, and either Oui, Gallery, or Genesis, and each of the 3 had a black plastic card in front bearing the name and logo of the magazine behind it (to block view of the covers in case they had any obscene words or pictures on them). And you had to be 18 to buy one.

I didn't know that there was still a print edition. They did have some good writers years ago as cover for their girlie pictures. Most of us teenage boys had a copy stashed away where mom wouldn't find it (she always found it).
Actually, I don't understand how porn is monetized these days what with all the free internet stuff. Anything and I mean anything can be found for free. Do porn companies still make money? Seems it would be hard to charge for something when it's available at no charge..
