President Donald Trump said at the White House Tuesday he wanted the federal government to send direct payments to Americans suffering economically from the coronavirus as part of a larger rescue package. “We’re going big,” Trump said, adding, “We want to go big, go solid.”
The proposal was detailed by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Tuesday during a press briefing at the White House.“We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately,” Mnuchin said, adding,

Well, great! I just sent Uncle Sam my tax money and now they want to send it back to me?
What a stupid, knee-jerk idea! Here's a much better solution: Stop the idiotic panic and let people get back to work!

I don’t need or want a government check. I want these communist power mad governors to get a grip and for all these nanny state politicians to leave me alone. No, it is NOT their job to ‘keep me safe’.

I have to say I fear financial ruin for friends and family more than I fear catching the virus. I would normally be against a move like this and it bothers me that I breathed a sigh of relief at this news..
We lost everything we ever owned during the Obama disastrous years. Physically and emotionally I can't go through that again. Before the fall we had more than a years pay in savings along with stocks and a 6 bedroom house ....all gone after four years of litigation. I still get a sick physical reaction when I think of those times. In the last eight years we have clawed our way back and have what's now a very tiny nest egg of about two months pay.
I refuse to be dependent on the government for anything. At the worst we never applied for any public assistance. Maybe if we had had young kids at home but for just the two of us...never.
It's so easy to be enticed by handouts, but...under these unprecedented circumstances and given the taxes we pay I thank DJT for thinking of us.

I agree ... just tell the truth about this whole idiotic thing, start with a huge gathering at a Trump rally and send all back to work the next day! HOWEVER, the MSM and Dems would go ballistic with that ... so, Trump is just beating them at their own game. Folks will focus on the stimulus, the decisiveness, and the air will go out of the panic. The panic is SO much worse than the disease. The Dems will be left with nothing! They can’t complain about wanting to help the workers. It’s brilliant.

I don't know how I feel about this but all of the criticism? Maybe President Donald Trump is trying to make the best out of this situation. He didn't ask for this; as a matter of fact, he tried to rein it in January. Guess who made the biggest stink? Democrats. Especially Joe Biden calling him xenophobic and hysterical. They were also putting a bill together to stop the travel ban.
One of the things that I like about Donald Trump is that he cares about Americans and want to Make America Great Again. What the Democrats and media did with this is irresponsible and I find the criticism just as irresponsible. Boy, is he between a rock and hard place.

Just what I need, some my tax money back, so I can pay tax on it next year. Two thoughts, just give taxpayers a tax credit next year if you're feeling generous, and secondly, when private sector workers lose their jobs for these national emergencies, don't pay the furloughed public sector employees either. It will show citizens how 'FAIR' the government is and everyone can feel the pain equally. Members of Congress need their pay stopped, but since most of them have stolen their way to millionaire status, it probably won't make a difference to them. Almost nothing gripes me more than to hear that mon-essential employees are sent home, and upon return to their non-essential jobs, get their back pay. Unless thre language had changed, non--essential means not necessary. There are enough jobs in the private sector, if they're willing to really work.

I contacted the White House this morning to tell them that I was strongly opposed to this policy. I suggest you do the same. A simple form to fill out, reported to the President.

Don't let the democrats get anywhere near this one. Putting an open checkbook within reach of those pirates would be like setting a bottle of whiskey within reach of an alcoholic. Or a credit card within reach of my ex-wife. It would be grabbed so fast that it would make a Cobra strike look slow.

This might seem funny to a lot of folks, but here is what is happening in the real world. All of the Dental Offices are closed for at least two weeks on the very strong recommendation of the Dental Assoc in IL. The women in that office (one is my daughter) are hourly workers. Their Boss a fine woman is allowing them to work for a few day this week catching up with things. Then, they will wait until they are able to work again. Most of those women have young children, a mortgage, car payment and groceries to buy. Not getting the paycheck they depend on will be a huge hardship. Some of them are lucky enough to get a "Parental Handout" (mine included). But not everyone has that Bank of Mom to fall back on. So, I am in favor of President Trump's wanting to do this! God knows we throw money to all kinds of Foreign Countries. It's time we take care of our own People!

#4 - it's not "their" money, it's OUR money, and even with Trump's tax cut, I'm overtaxed and will gladly accepted back that which the government took from me. They took five figures from me last year, I'd like back as much of that as possible. I can spend it better than some nameless, faceless bureaucrat.

One more comment. It is an extension of #7 because I have been thinking about it more. There are people who are recovering from the Obama years namely my family. For all of the people criticizing President Trump, maybe you work for the government and didn't have to go through the Obama years in the same manner. I have no idea if you support President Trump or just tolerate him. I do sense that he was pleased as punch that America was recovering even through the Russian collusion, impeachment and whatever. He wants America to be great and is very concerned about our people and families. What would you do? Act like Obama and not give a hoot. Not only that, we find out that the Biden family was profiting big time from other countries while our country was declining. So, yeah, keep complaining about his actions. . .

I don't need it, but people who own small businesses that have been forced to close, and who have employees who cannot work should get some help. I'm okay with that.

Handing me $1,000 in cash now but committing me to paying back $5,000 in the future when I want to retire isn't something I would remotely sign up for. I hope nobody is fooled into believing that this won't be another massive wealth redistribution from the makers given to the takers.
Here's the deal folks, this thing is deadly but no deadlier than things we have weathered with nary a whimper in the past. The problem, it spreads so fast and even at a relatively low rate driving the need for hospital care it will completely overload the capacity if we all get it at the same time. It is going to run through us they can't stop it but they hope to spread the timeline out. Remember the massive construction project in China?

I don't need or want their blasted check, but if it is forced upon me, I think I'll take it to my local gun dealer and donate it. As a thank you, he will give me that gun I've been drooling over. Maybe two.

Like #7, I lost everything I had worked for my entire life during the Obama years. I have been struggling ever since to get even close to recovering from that debacle. The house, the car, the savings, the sterling credit rating, the good job, any shred of confidence, all gone. I fear yet another financial meltdown because I don't have anything in reserve left.

#7 Same here. Lost everything, including my dignity, during the Obola years as a self employed person. So many in this area were self employed and sold everything to keep a roof over their heads. It pained me to see construction guys sell their tools and wife's jewelry and have Mexicans come in and buy it dirt cheap while they work for cash under the table. People sold their silver collections by the 5 gallon bucket full.
If $1000 will help people pay their rent or mortgage and keep the lights on, I am for it. Landlords don't take IOU's.
