Bengaluru - Shares of Microsoft Corp fell more than 4% on Thursday after the company warned of weakness in PC business due to a hit to its supply chain from the coronavirus outbreak, echoing similar statements from Apple Inc and HP. The drop in share price wiped off nearly $50 billion from the Microsoft’s market value on a day when broader markets were down more than 2%. (Snip) Apple was the first big technology firm to come out and say the virus was affecting its production and demand in China. PayPal Holdings Inc and Mastercard Inc have also warned about a possible hit.

"As you sow, so shall you reap," or is it "Lie down with dogs and wake up with fleas"? I'm not one to cut my nose to spite my face, so it should have been obvious to any thinking person that moving production and staff to China for cheap labor would eventually bite these major corporations because of their Communist state and supply lines. We were made aware of that when it was revealed years ago that the display monitors for our then F-117 came from China as the sole source. That was a jaw dropper.

Conspiracy theory: this whole week's market sell off is a trial run for a more serious market crash planned for later in the year. The leftist billionaires have the wherewithal and inside track to make it happen. A compliant media helps. All they had to do to get this firesale going was to heavily short the Dow Futures on Sunday night. Each night they manipulate the thinly traded Dow Futures to get the results they want the next day. Its working. They will do it in a much bigger way 6-8 weeks before the election. They are hoping this will get Bloomberg elected the way it did Obama.

Guess production in China is NOT THE SAME as production in the United States. Will any of these companies move their jobs back to the United States? The world isn't flat anymore.

I have a feeling that Microsoft will reduce their losses on hardware if the supply-chain problem persists. They make all their profits on software & services, which subsidize their losses on hardware. Net gain if they can't sell hardware.

I switched to MAC 20 years ago as an IT Professional. I couldn't take Windows any longer. I remember Windows 3.1 and the "blue screen of death"! Reformat the HD and start over. Data gone! We had to run Windows 3.1 on OS/2 WARP at the Bank I worked for because we were so "Blue, IBM"! WOW was that awful! When Microsoft switched to the "Register" I decided I'm out! I will never return...although Apple is making it hard on me lately with lousy software and awful Hardware coming out of China. Fortunately I'm past the "shiny rocks" part of my career and my 5 year old iPhone works just fine. I just NEVER update it! My iMac is at end of life at 12 years old, however and I can't run any Microsoft products on it. I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade. Looking at refurbished. Can't justify the price of a new one!

Seoul, South Korea - North Korea fired three short-range projectiles off its east coast on Monday, South Korea’s military said, two days after the North threatened to take “momentous” action to protest outside condemnation over its earlier live-fire exercises. Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the multiple kinds of projectiles fired from the eastern coastal town of Sondok flew as far as 200 kilometers (125 miles) at a maximum altitude of 50 kilometers (30 miles) before landing in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan. A JCS statement said South Korea expressed "strong regret” over the launches that it said violate a past inter-Korean agreement aimed at lowering military animosities.

Amsterdam - Relatives sat listening with bowed heads and eyes closed as the names of all 298 victims of a missile strike on a Malaysian airliner were read out in a Dutch court on Monday as the murder trial of four fugitive defendants began. Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 was hit by a surface-to-air missile on July 17, 2014 while flying over Ukrainian territory held by pro-Russian rebels fighting government forces. The airliner was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. None of the accused in the disaster – three Russians and a Ukrainian – were present in the courtroom and all four are believed to be in Russia.

Japan is announcing the closure of schools nationwide to help control the spread of the new virus. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he asked all elementary, middle and high schools to remain closed until spring holidays begin in late March. The measure comes amid growing concern about the rise in the number of untraceable cases in northern Japan and elsewhere. Japan now has more than 890 cases, including 705 from a quarantined cruise ship. President Trump’s reelection campaign sued The New York Times for libel on Wednesday, saying the news organization falsely reported as fact a conspiracy with Russia. The lawsuit, filed in the New York State Supreme Court, seeks to hold the news organization accountable for intentionally publishing false statements against Mr. Trump’s campaign. Jenna Ellis, senior legal adviser to the campaign, said the Times falsely stated the campaign “had an ‘overarching deal’ with ‘Vladimir Putin’s oligarchy’ to ‘help the campaign against Hillary Clinton’ in exchange for ‘a new pro-Russian foreign policy, starting with relief from … economic sanctions.’”

DOJ officials framed the creation of the Denaturalization Section, which will be housed in the civil Office of Immigration Litigation, as an effort to crack down on an increase in cases of those who have engaged in fraud, human rights violations, sexual offenses, and other crimes.
