President Trump is making good on his promises to “drain the swamp” and cut Obama-era holdovers from his staffs, especially the critical and recently controversial National Security Council.
Officials confirmed that Trump and national security adviser Robert O’Brien have cut 70 positions inherited from former President Barack Obama, who had fattened the staff to 200.
Many were loaners from other agencies and have been sent back. Others left government work.
The NSC, which is the president’s personal staff, was rocked when a “whistleblower” leveled charges that led to Trump’s impeachment.
....was given a horrendous report by his superior, the man he reported to, who publicly stated that Vindman had problems with judgement, adhering

Vindman and his brother were NOT fired! They are active duty military on a detail to the NSC/White House. Not many details last for several years as theirs did. Funny that. Probably no command in the US Army wanted them. Especially the one brother who was openly anti-American and seemingly pro-Ukrainian. And just how he has kept he security clearance after having been disciplined for previous anti-American behavior is beyond me.

Actually, #4, they were fired from that NSC job. LtCol Vindman went back to his US Army job, but I am pretty sure that his brother is a civilian, so has no job at all, for the moment.
But never fear, some extreme left wing, Trump hating outfit will LOVE to hire him, just because Trump fired him, not necessarily because he will be of any real value to them, beyond his political pawn value.

You know a quality I see in PT is he seems to want to give people a chance. It is a very nice quality. I think he won the Presidency and he only had a very few people , not from politics with him, and he did not think he needed to clean house. Also remember he is from the outside, he is not a lifelong politician.
He would not immediately know the bad guys. I think he sure as heck does now and he is moving on it.
Better late than never and get rid of as many as you can. And yank all those security clearances, geez.

President Trump had to learn the hard way that when it comes to modern day democrats, you can't automatically count on them being patriotic citizens, or even really, decent human beings.

I hope this isn't the end of punitive action against Lt. Col. Venom.
He failed to follow the designated procedure in his insubordination to the Commander-in-Chief.
Someone needs to scour his military fitness reports and when he is verified as an untrustworthy leaker, bring the full force of the UCMJ down on him. I would prefer Leavenworth, but busting him to an E-1 with a dishonorable discharge would be acceptable.

Donald Trump is an experienced businessman. He has also known how much the Dems and many Repubs despised (and still do despise) him. He had a very sparse bundle from which to choose staffing for large and extremely important agencies. It seems that once the plot to overthrow his Presidency was identified (at the very least, suspected) then grew and spread, he really should have purged previous Administrations' staffers.
POTUS had a lot of trouble replacing ambassadors, too.
I still wonder: what happened with all of BO's "czars"? We never knew who most of them were, or what they were doing; they were appointees and not under Congressional scrutiny.

president Truman created the NSC.
Did he do it because he didn't trust the State Department??
Henry Kissinger accepted the position of Secretary of State back in 1972 with the condition that he also hold his position of National security advisor, thus controlling the NSC at the same time.
was that an indication that kissinger viewed the nSC as a rogue outfit??

I too wondered about #19's question re the 'czars.' They probably disappeared with their government pension. Who would have thought there would be twin Ukrainian brothers both working for the NSC in Washington? Who was their sponsor? Obola?

Any wise military mind knows that the Vindman brothers are back-stabbers. Anyone who deals with them are pre-warned and do so at their own risk. And don't cut in line at chow in front of them, that could be dangerous.

Given that they would have leveled charges of obstruction at him had he moved to fire all those people during the Mueller investigation, Trump had to wait until all the democrat debris was gone before he could clean house in the NSC. He would have been impeached had he been charged with obstruction during the Mueller witch hunt. We know it was all bogus, but the dems would have jumped on it like a duck on a June bug.
I suspect this is simply round one of the firing game, and boy I hope to see more of these pink slips flying. Like a Pink Snow storm hitting DC.

After more than three years the place gets scrubbed of Obama holdovers. That's one major problem with "outsiders", they have no coterie of followers to install. Those places needed complete sweeping out on Day One. If PDT has an Achilles heel, it's personnel. Anyone pining to bring back Rex?

Yes, indeed it all sounds good for us to say Trump should have done this Day 1. I felt that way too. However, right after taking office, our Trump was really really new to Washington. He was being guided by GOPe types that he thought he could trust and he was detested by his own party’s leaders. Miss Lindsey, McCain and others would have blasted him for a wholesale purge and would have made life needlessly harder during a very delicate time.
Now, three years later, Trump has the political capital to do pretty much whatever and GOPe now understands what peril they might be in themselves should they hurt our President. No, now we have the gang of however many it is out there criticizing Trump’s perfect right to get an NSC team HE can trust.
Good job President Trump.

Strictly from the Army's perspective, there is another bigger issue and that is how many officers are excess to the current force structure. The active Army needs a certain percentage of over staffed officers for replacements in time of war. Traditionally, these came from qualified combat arms folks in training base billets and individual ready reserve, etc. IMO the Goldwater Act in the late 80s requiring joint billets for advancement, while a good idea, has morphed into assignments and details of officers who become so divorced from their basic jobs they would be a danger if deployed overseas. The nation does not need these guys hiding out in the WH or the dozens of other activities to "help" with national security. A need exists, but not to the extent of the bloated structure we have now in the NCR, so a scrubbing needs to be done in the services also.

According to some reports, Alexander V. is slated for enrollment in the Command and General Staff School. It is a prerequisite for attaining the rank of General and is considered a career plum. That is an assignment that should be scrubbed since he is totally unqualified for any rank above Pvt. E-2. In looking at his ribbons--difficult because of poor video images---besides various duty stations, he seems to have a Bronze Star, but lacking the "V Device". That is the equivalent of a Good Conduct Medal for an enlisted soldier. And he has a Purple Heart. (Big deal. I have one, too and got mine 50 years before he did, when a combat injury ended my Army career.) This Vindman schlub seems like the Army's latter day version of John Kerry, who, incidentally, served in Vietnam. They deserve about the same amount of respect; namely ZERO.

#39, as a LTC, Vindman would have already attended CGSC. If selected, his next school would be the War College at Carlisle Barracks. Given recent events, I doubt he would be going there.
