Orson Bean, the witty actor and comedian, was hit and killed by a car in Los Angeles, authorities said. He was 91.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office confirmed Bean's Friday night death, saying it was being investigated as a “traffic-related” fatality. The coroner's office provided the location where Bean was found, which matched reports from local news outlets.
A man was walking in the Venice neighborhood when he was clipped by a vehicle and fell, Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Brian Wendling initially told local stations. A second driver then struck him in what police say was the fatal collision. Both drivers remained on the scene. Police were investigating

From another report, he was trying to cross Venice Boulevard. It is a very busy street, expecially on Friday and Saturday nights. Very good restaurants in Venice. The time of the accident makes it sound as though he was going to dinner...

At the end of the article: "Bob Thomas, a long-time and now deceased staffer of the Associated Press, was the principal writer of this obituary." How long have the ghouls at AP been waiting to roll out his obit? From ACLU founder parents to Andrew Breitbart's father in law is quite a progression. RIP.

How very sad. Mr. Bean had a very interesting life. If you have a little time, I highly recommend watching his one-man show "Safe at Home: an Evening with Orson Bean". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2oEzFld0Hw
Another national treasure gone.

I agree about the youtube video number 5, it is very entertaining. He was a very smart, sensible guy. I do believe Andrew was influenced by Orson's conservatism. Really liked him.

Re #4, news organizations often have prepared obituaries for well-known persons. Often they have been partially composed by the persons themselves. Not necessarily ghoulish.

Re #6, I believe Andrew, married to Bean’s daughter, probably lead the left-wing-raised Bean to Conservativism, not the other way around. I seem to recall seeing/hearing Bean talk about it...

There was a very funny episode of Mary Tyler Moore regarding pre-written obituaries of celebrities.

A LOT of people really should cede driving to the car. A bunch of low power radar, cameras and distant computer code would do a better job than millions of idiots who have no idea how to control their vehicle, rules of the road or anticipation of events that might happen in front of them.

#4 - Poster #7 is correct. Newspapers have files of obituaries ready to go, just needing to fill in age cause of death. It helps them get the information out faster. They have them for Democrats and Republicans alike.

According to another commenter, on hearing of Bean's passing, AOC was heard lamenting that she wouldn't be getting any more of his catalogues.

I prefer to think of it this way: It looks like Orson Bean outlived his obituarist. I think he would have enjoyed that and laughed.
He told great stories and was wonderful and much-beloved guest on the old Dennis Miller Radio Show.

I'm well aware that news operations have obits of prominent people in the can for the time when the personage ambles off the stage of life. It just seemed rather ironic that the composer of Mr. Bean's obituary was outlived by its subject. And as for their ghoulishness, I defer to Don Henley's critique of the media in Dirty Laundry.
