Maine Republicans are launching an effort to get a people's veto to repeal ranked-choice voting in the November presidential election."One person, one vote is a bedrock American principle," said Demi Kouzounas, chair of the Maine Republican Party's ballot question committee. "Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is a direct violation of that principle and threatens the rights of all Mainers

Here is a link to the results of Congressional voting for Maine's Second District. Scroll to the 2016 results... you'll see that incumbent Republican Poliquin received 2000 more votes that the eventual winner, Jared Golden. Over 6,000 votes were thrown out ("exhausted") in the lead up to making Democrat Golden our new Congressman... and we didn't learn until Friday who won the election. It's maddening. Insanity has become the new normal. Be forewarned! Beware! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine%27s_2nd_congressional_district#Recent_election_results

In post #2... I should have written 2018 election.. Maine Republicans failed to turn out and simply gave the seat to the Democrats. Turn out is REALLY important. If you're involved with Republican politics.. get involved in Republican turnout!

How did this ever happen? Why haven't the courts stepped in an overturned this?

Like Florida, Maine has instituted making changes to the State Constitution by getting enough signatures on petitions to get changes such as RCV on the ballot. Because Maine has so many Leftist splinter parties, The Green Party etc. Dems created Rank Choice voting to collect up the votes that were cast for Leftists, but not strictly Dems.
Citizens initatives bypass the Legislative process, and institutes Mob Rule lawmaking. It is never a good idea and Rank Choice Voting is a perfect example.

Good. I know referring to Saul Alinsky has become tired, but "make them play by their own rules" fits perfectly here.
Having said that, our Constitution does NOT have one person one vote for the Senate, and it's intentional. And it isn't anti-democratic - it's anti-mob. The Constitution wants the government to reflect popular changes that are longer term and secular (in the "propogated and accepted generally" sense and not the non-religious sense) - not the electoral equivalent of a lynching.

Given the flaky performance of Susan Collins, I would not trust anything that Maine does. She is a parody of the state itself, okay around the edges but a vast wilderness on the inside.

RCV is clearly a scam that allows people to vote multiple times until a winner is declared by majority.
So, if a Republican gets more votes than any other candidate, but not a majority, the Left can pool their votes and revote until their candidate has a majority.
This allows people to vote multiple times, extends the declaration of the winner beyond the statutory deadlines, and is a violation of the constitution .
AG Barr should advise the Maine AG that RCV cannot be used in federal elections

#8. I don't particularly like Collins either. She's 60% Republican... But, she DID vote for Kavanaugh and all of his other judicial nominations and she DID vote to acquit the President. If she doesn't win and the communist Dummocrat Sara Gideon, D-RI/ME wins her seat, it decreases the Supreme Court nomination clout of the Prez. The worst Republican is far better than the best Democrat. President Trump needs to come to Maine's Second District for a rally where he endorses the candidacy of Collins.. otherwise we WILL lose the seat to the Dems.

#8.... funny.. Maine is strictly Democrat around the edges..anywhere where's an ocean view! The inland "wilderness" is the hot bed of conservatives... where true Mainers live and work. Coastal areas are full of wealthy out of staters who are busy enjoying their trust funds and Californiaing and NYing Maine.

Digging into my memory banks from here in NH, #4, Poliquin, the R incumbent attempted to pursue this through the courts (by the way, his district went heavily for Trump). His challenges were stopped by a dem-appointed judge.
The current governor, far-left, has been reversing all of the great policies of a really great, smart Republican, Gov. LePage. He was re-elected several times in that mostly liberal State (liberal as opposed to strictly Left, although I think it's headed big time in that direction). Again, if memory serves, the US district court fell back on the assertion that this style of counting votes was chosen by the vote of the people.
It seems that the people were misled. It continues.
Also, Soros inveigling and Steyer and Bloomie all meddle with their millions. Traipsing around the country they are as destructive as termites
So "ranked choice voting" must be stopped. I heard Mr. Poliquin on Howie Carr the other day announce RepealRankedChoice .com, if I may say here. They are fund-raising on the website; tough to go up against millions and millions of dollars.

Electoral College protects the rights of the smaller states that have few people. That is why the Constitution set up the Electoral College that supported the equality of state voters. One person, one vote implies is not a good idea. That is pure democracy and has not worked well in many countries throughout history. The Electoral College protects Maine just as it does other states.
