Teflon Don: Trump Hits All-Time Gallup
High in Poll Conducted During Impeachment Trial

If Democrats harbored no real belief that President Donald Trump would be removed via the impeachment process thanks to a Republican Senate majority, they surely hoped that the process would at least put a dent in the commander in chief’s popularity. Yet the latest numbers indicate that not only has the Senate trial had the opposite effect, it has also bolstered Trump to an all-time high approval rating. According to the latest survey released by Gallup, 49 percent of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing as president. The poll was taken from Jan. 16-Jan. 29 — which covers much of the period during the trial.

The impeachment drama failed...the numbers were supposed to drop precipitously. The only thing left is for Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler and the remaining prosecuting House Managers to resign in disgrace...if they had any honor...which they don't.

After Iowa, five reasons for the decline

Lost in the shuffle of the Democrats' app fiasco in Iowa, the rubber-room swan song of House impeachment manager Adam Schiff, and the childish paper-ripping tantrum of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the candidacy of "frontrunner" Joe Biden looks headed for the dumpster. To the extent known from the Iowa caucus ballots counted, Biden is in fourth place, winning just 15% of the caucus count, trailing Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren, and just barely ahead of Amy Klobuchar. Unlike those first three, he gets no delegates for his efforts. He's also out of money. It's simply a disaster for Biden.

Nikki van den Heever, a caucus precinct captain for former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, tried to talk down an Iowa woman who was incensed to find out — in real-time during a caucus after she’d signed a card supporting him — that the candidate is openly gay. “Are you saying that he has the same-sex partner? Pete?” the woman says in the clip, which was posted to both Twitter and Reddit early Tuesday morning. “Yes,” van den Heever responds. “Are you kidding?” the woman says, and upon being told Mayor Pete is married, says “Then I don’t want anybody like that in the White House.

Lefties couldn't stop cackling after NBC broke the news that John Kerry was considering a late entry into the presidential race. DES MOINES, Iowa — Former Secretary of State John Kerry — one of Joe Biden's highest-profile endorsers — was overheard Sunday on the phone at a Des Moines hotel explaining what he would have to do to enter the presidential race amid "the possibility of Bernie Sanders taking down the Democratic Party — down whole." Sitting in the lobby restaurant of the Renaissance Savery hotel, Kerry was overheard by an NBC News analyst saying "maybe I'm f---*** deluding myself here"

Against the violent talk and now actual violence coming out of the Bernie Sanders campaign for president, Bernie's soaring in the polls anyway. He's doing so because unlike pretty much any Democrat except his probable nearest rival, Michael Bloomberg, he's actually talking about the economy, something TeamTrump has held a monopoly on. Problem is, he's promising economic paradise, a full creation of 20 million jobs. Via Nate Silver, here's one of his ads that ran in California: Sanders says he's going to create 20 million jobs? Through state intervention or socialist central planning, presumably? Better living through socialism? Give us a break. For starters, been there done that. Way back in 2008,

LONDON - A Brexit supporter burned a European Union flag beside Downing Street in central London on Friday as others jeered at pro-EU demonstrators in the final hours before the United Kingdom is due to leave the bloc. About 200-300 pro-European Union supporters were mocked by pro-Brexit supporters as they walked from Downing Street to the office of the European Commission in London. Police formed a line to keep the two groups apart. The pro-Brexit supporters were singing “shame on you, shame on you”, “losers, losers” and “bye, bye EU” to the tune of Auld Lang Syne.

On impeachment, Mitt Romney has thrown a spanner in the works. What looked like a speedy scrapping of the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump, premised on Democrats beclowning themselves, is now on hold. Romney says that John Bolton's "bombshell" about a supposed Ukrainian aid-for-investigation quid pro quo is so significant it merits calling Bolton as a witness in the Senate impeachment trial, just as Democrats have been calling for, though not enough to call him in at the House. According to the Associated Press: WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s Mitt Romney’s big moment, again. The 2012 Republican presidential nominee has for a year been a

Based on its own ideology, the American Left must now conclude that their own educational policies are racist. A groundbreaking study by a group called Brightbeam (“a network of education activists demanding better education and a brighter future for every child”) has discovered that cities politically dominated by progressives have far greater gaps between the average educational achievement levels of whites and minorities of blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans than cities politically dominated by conservatives. John Hinderaker of Powerline introduced me to the findings:

Supreme Court Justic Neil Gorsuch, in a ruling about denying green cards to migrants who come here to be "public charges," something that's plainly laid out in U.S. law as illegal, threw in a special warning to activist judges, all leftists, who have been beavering away to rule from the bench, warning them that he's tired of their shenanigans. It's a specter to behold - a big lion on the Supreme Court who not only cares about rule of law, but is now warning the leftists out there that he's coming for them. Here's PJMedia's report:

Hard to say what fired and now former National Security Advisor John Bolton is up to these days now that the Senate impeachment trial is on. The latest news is here on the front page of the New York Times, reporting an anonymous "leak": WASHINGTON — President Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens, according to an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser, John R. Bolton.

Like week-old meat left in a hot car, the stench of defeat is starting to overpower the swag pens and stifled giggles in the Democrats' impeachment project. Axios has fresh news about how bad it is: Officials in both parties tell me that — barring surprise new information — President Trump is on a glide path to swift acquittal at his Senate impeachment trial, despite a blizzard of evidence bolstering Democrats' accusations. Why it matters: Trump has a decent chance of avoiding witnesses and of losing zero Republican votes on conviction. Think about that: When the news broke,

The Iowa caucus data operation just crashed and burned. That means that it could take days to get find out who actually won the Democratic contest – the first of the 2020 presidential election cycle. Gobsmacked candidates have come out to throw confetti, drop balloons, and declare "on to New Hampshire!" There's nothing else to do except to declare victory and move on. No one really knows, right? Joe Biden's lawyers have sent the Iowa caucus organizers a sternly worded letter ordering them not to reveal the winner until the results are cleared with them.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has been nominated for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize by two Swedish lawmakers. Thunberg, 17, captured global attention for leading a student strike in her home country of Sweden to raise awareness about climate change. Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, both members of Sweden's Left Party, argued that Thunberg’s international tour to combat climate change is worthy of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. In nominating Thunberg, Holm and Svenneling said the teenager had “worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis.” They argued that reducing emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is “an act of making peace.”

Wow, that was one hell of a State of the Union Address. President Trump seized the center with a powerful, patriotic and utterly centrist speech. And then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reinforced his message with her oh-so-symbolic ripping up of the text. What, other than channeling the alienation of the Democratic base from the great American center, was she thinking? This was the very best of Trump — generous, bipartisan (with a few barbs) and good-spirited. He not only got congressional Democrats to stand and cheer, but he also credited the legislators in the room for working together across party lines to do right by America.

As I was about to begin writing about the sun shining on President Trump's re-election efforts, a dark cloud passed over my Twitter feed announcing that Rush Limbaugh has advanced lung cancer and will be taking time off for medical treatment. What terrible news for the 30 million–plus weekly "Ditto-heads," faithful listeners to his daily three-hour commentary on news, politics, sports, and popular culture. Rush "made the complex understandable," as he liked to say, using irreverent humor to make his points. It was effortless for Rush, doing all of this with "half his brain tied behind his back."
