Across a frightened nation divided by politics and culture, a fragile harmony is ascendant, as Americans in small towns and large cities alike cry out in trembling unison: Hey, where did all these Californians come from?
Talk of a “California Exodus” is sweeping the country—and so are anxieties about its effects on the rest of the West. In October, the Boise mayoral candidate Wayne Richey proposed at an election forum to build a $26 billion wall to keep out people moving from the Golden State. (His backup plan to stop the invasion of Boise? "Trash the place.”) A viral Wall Street Journal article

When we lived in California in the late fifties-early sixties, almost everyone we knew was from somewhere else. A native Californian was a rare bird, at least in our area of Southern California. Even back then, the state was too expensive for a very young couple to get ahead. California was scenic and special, but we fled back to Texas.

We welcome those who work and have plenty of rich folks, thank you. Just understand that California became a hell-hole because of Democrat policies. Mind that you leave your Dem voting habits out West and we'll get along just fine.

Sounds like we are seeing a reversal of the 30s; real Grapes of Rot stuff. They're fleeing not the Dust Bowl but the 'Dirt' Bowl.

Why is it that liberals, who flee the state that has become unbearable, want to elect the same type of politicians as they did there and make their new home into the same ole mess.

We have the same problem here in southern PA. People from Montgomery County Maryland are invading our conservative county. They are tired of the mess that they created with high taxes, illegals, etc. Then when these idiots get here they want to make our county in Montgomery County with new laws. Just recently we almost tire and feathered one of our residents for a stupid ordnance he wanted. This ordnance would have created problems for the local farmers. The transplants are pure trouble. People in my county don't want them!!!

The Atlantic compares liberal Californians, who are fleeing their own failed policies in order to inflict them on Texas, to illegal immigration from Mexico. Okay.

Californians and New Yorkers are a similar infection. They leave their homes because of high prices, high taxes, high crime and high property costs, and bring all those things with them. Here is a free tip. If you MUST come to another state, get rid of the license plates. People already hate you when they see them. Keep in mind that nothing you did or knew at home will be appreciated or welcomed here. Your very presence is polluting our culture, and the best thing you can do is assimilate. Get rid of the convertible, the RV and the sun glasses. And especially the spandex and the mountain bike. Don't vote for at least ten years and never run for local office. People carry guns here. Get used to it. Most are concealed but some are open. Nobody cares if it makes you uncomfortable. Your mugger accent makes us uncomfortable. You can carry one too, just remember no gun ever made anyone a man. It just makes one free.
You moved here because it was better than there. Now quit trying to make here there.

My father's uncles moved to California from Oklahoma during the Great Depression "dust bowl" migration looking for work because agriculture was so unpredictable they were broke and destitute.
Many of those leaving California these days are not only looking for work, they are moving out because the taxes and cost of living there has become unbearable. Many are freedom-loving people who have talent and skills which are needed and they can find work without repressive regulations on them.
Many bring with them what they think are "normal" attitudes about many things, but the "culture" they come to is vastly different, and that is the biggest concern. Many of the radical ideas they grew up around is NOT "normal" and as hard as the media is working to inculcate new 'values' upon the rest of us through saturation campaigns on television, cable, satellite, and movies, MOST of the country (unless you are in a city like Austin) just don't live that way.

#11 same thing happened to NH when people from MA moved north to find less expensive living. A reliable red state went blue. I have since moved from NH, but more because of long winters than moonbats.

In 60 plus years, this is the fourth wave of moonbat Californians we have suffered: three in Washington State and now in Arizona. They are vile people. They defile their own nest to the point they leave it, and then begin to defile your nest because they love filth. Republican Parties in these states under assault this year need to get out there NOW and start calling them out and telling them DO NOT come here and vote they way you did in California and expect a different result. The only way to slow down the rot they bring with them is to get right in their faces. And, no, Texans, you will not convert them and maintain your beautiful Texas unless you dominate them. This is war.

Today is first official day of retirement! We UT Texas -exes are planning our return to TX from our NE TAX HELL state! Our votes might actually count, so maybe we can help to keep TX red! Haven't lost our Texas accents, and don't plan to lose the sunglasses! Won't be bringing any license plates, as we plan car purchases to me made in TX! Probably going to take a long time to sell our house because of the super high property taxes that are higher than Susan Collins' SALT cap!

I have said this before, but here goes. I am third generation Calif., the Kids 4th, GKs 5th. Yes, parts of Cal are hell holes but I bet your great State also has those hell holes. At 72 yrs of age I have lived in a Dem run city only 3 yrs. The other 69 in places at least as Conservative as yours. We always live in Conservative counties and vote Conservative 100% of the time. We live a very Conservative life around very Conservative folk. State politics suck so you simply go where they have little, if any, relevance. Not for you to worry about us Californians invading your State. We will never leave our State, just like we never left the USA under Clinton or Obama. You can sleep well tonight, for we are staying put in our beautiful California.

Ditto #17- There are 20 million registered Republicans in this state. I am born and raised here and I love where I live. I understand the hate because I work in the middle of one the worst of the left wing places, SF and Silicon Valley. It is pretty crazy the way so many liberals think, and SF is truly turning into a shitehole like I have never seen. I can only pray that someday it turns around. One thing is for sure when you meet a fellow conservative, you bond instantly.

It was a huge mistake for Governor Rick Perry to actively recruit Californias to come to Texas because of the high risk of leftists swarming in and changing the voting demographics.

My son is considering moving to Idaho from a conservative area. I warned him that a lot of Californians are doing the same thing and they're going to do the same to Idaho that they did to Colorado, Oregon and Washington. "No no, there are already bumper stickers on cars in Idaho telling Californians to take their politics back to California." (Cleaned up to get past the censor)
Well, bumper stickers don't vote and Californians dragging their politics to other states, even Texas, are going to ruin those states as well. We've seen it first hand, along with New Englanders moving to the mid-Atlantic seaboard and dragging their liberal politics along with them. Fight off these influxes of liberals running from what they have wrought; before it's too late for YOUR state.

Texas isn't the only state that feels that way. Oregon and Washington don't want them either. They have absolutely ruined Oregon's coastal beauty with the over building of their vacation homes. If I wanted to live in Cali, hubby and I would move there. But we do not. Stay home and fix your own messes Cali. Don't bring them to our states.
Don't get me wrong, I married into a Cali transplant family over four decades ago, and I have Cali friends. But the liberal locusts who are ruining that state, are moving into other more fertile territories, and that needs to stop.

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid!
The worst thing about them is they are so convinced they are right about EVERYthing! It won't occur to most of them to get to know their new home before they immediately set about making it the same carphole they came from.

For almost 18 years our little southwest border state of New Mexico rambled along without incident until Obama was elected.
Now we have a border crisis and our government has gone deep blue because of three large cities deciding elections. Our electoral college votes went to Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders might get them this time around.
In the last two years I've witnessed more California plates in our sleepy little town than ever some are passing through going east to Texas but some just might like to stay here. The problem is there are no high caliber jobs to be had here just construction and oilfield so larger cities in Texas are in their trajectory.

I live in a small city in Nevada. Since 2005 a growth spurt has added many people to the city population. Now 66% of the residents are from California. In the last election Nevada flipped from Red to Blue. It take a while to acclimate, I guess.

Buried in this article, it stated that the young people coming into California were mostly earning six figures and highly educated. That may be true -- but it also said those leaving were poorer, and less educated. That's not what I've found here in Colorado (and I'm a transplant here, too, although 30 years on). We have many many Golden Staters here, and they mostly live like conservatives but vote blue and you cannot open their eyes to that disconnect. It's like talking to a brick wall.

It was in the 80's when SF look nice from the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Get down town, it was filthy, howevre I didn't encounter any fecal matter on the sidewalks. Any guesses when a plague of some sort will break out there?

My kindest regards to #17, #18. I do not share some of my fellow native Texans’ desire to paint all Californians with the same liberal brush. Some of the ire is borne out of watching our state change and the feeling of powerlessness to reverse course. What has come across the TX-MX border has done far more to ruin our state than Californians (so far.)

There are many conservatives in California. We are swamped by the Democrats "Guests" from other lands both documented and undocumented and liberal carpetbaggers from the northeast. However, if vote fraud was stopped, I doubt that the Democrats would have a supermajority in the legislature. If you sat in one of our polling places you could see it happening. Carloads of strangers showing up, entering the polling place, voting two by two, no id check, and nothing can be done.
It is important to realize that liberals are not rational. They believe you can simultaneously have free everything and keep your money. They believe you can double the population without needing more roads, power plants or reservoirs (in a desert). They think that banning guns will end violence (at least until they are polar beared in San Francisco). And the will vigorously defend those beliefs through ad hominem attacks, changing the subject, rejecting your facts and if that doesn't work shunning you. (At that point you should watch your back.)
Don't try this at work, if your boss is a liberal you could lose your job.
You risk your life, your job and your sanity if you speak up. However, if you are patient, speak softly and don't challenge too many of their irrational liberal beliefs at a time. you can slowly wake them from their delusional state. They have money and certainty so you can't stop them from coming and voting their way. So please do your best. Save your state.
But liberals everywhere act this way, we just have more, and they have their brigrades of brainwashed students (did you know that the US invented slavery - California college students do), poor immigrants and minorities who believe the lies that conservatives keep them down.
