So very sad...
Heartfelt prayers for Vanessa and his family.
He would bring his girls after school to our Newport Coast Starbucks... first time I saw him, I thanked him...
He was tall, and smiling...

I suspect a part of Kobe died the day before, when LeJames passed his career points total. May God bless the souls of all who died and console their grieving loved ones.

I told my husband I wondered if he hadn’t been learning to fly it and perhaps was piloting...and made the bad decision (it appears) to fly in fog. One radio report just said that might be the case. Very sad. My heart breaks for his wife...you should not have to bury and mourn your child. I just can’t even imagine...

So sad to lose a man who overcame some of his worst instincts and made good on all the promise his very privileged life gave him, not least the willingness to be a dad to four daughters, including a 7 month-old. He was more recently engaged in efforts to promote positive attitudes in kids, and I will give him great credit for this. His children have lost a dad and a sister; his wife, who stuck with him all these years, has lost her mate and a child. May they be surrounded by love.
As for helicopters, we lost two of our most prominent business men/ entrepreneurs here in WNY in a crash last week; one of them was piloting his new helicopter back from Washington DC. Seems there is something about flying helicopters that is attractive to high-energy types.

Kobe dead while Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler and Schumer still alive. So unfair. We need more fairness.

Losing a child is parents' worst nightmare. But, losing your spouse at the same time can't be described in words. This is tough. I wouldn't want to be in LeBron's shoes right now. Not to get political here, but, I wonder if the dims and the msm can at least put down their hate of the President for a few minutes and acknowledge this terrible loss.

Please do yourselves a favor and do not read the disgusting comments posted in this TMZ article. I just pray this devastated family does not read any of the filth. After losing a son in 2018 I can only imagine the pain of losing dad and daughter in one moment. Prayers to all of the Bryant family.

Years ago, before any of the rumors about him were out, I took a neighbor's child to see the Korean Peace Bell at Palos Verdes Penn overlooking the ocean.
She loved it!
Then we saw him playing basketball for a camera shooting a commercial at the park next to that Bell.
He was so friendly and and encouraging to her.
He spent quite a bit of time talking with her.
She was about 12 at the time and absolutely loved meeting him.

So sad. His daughter was absolutely darling. For one so young to die, is so unfair and such a tragedy. Rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers to Mrs. Bryant and to all the families of those who died in the crash.

His surviving eldest daughter goes to the same school as my daughter. Years ago, when I still used commercial gyms, I would see him often there. We even trick-or-treated at his house one year. While I never follow sports much, this was quite a shock to read. I wish his wife and daughters well.

I wasn’t too upset when I first heard this. I thought sucks for his wife but she’s got money, she’ll be fine. My husband lost his 18 year old daughter in an auto accident right before Thanksgiving and compared to that, a 41 year old man passing wasn’t that bad. Hearing his 13 year old daughter was also killed changed everything. I can’t imagine losing your husband and a child at the same time. So sad.....

Seems to me Kobe Bryant worked very hard for and earned his success. No affirmative action needed. No affirmative action needed. There's a lesson.

Reports from Jon Scott on Fox indicate the pilot was under instrument flight rules (IFR) for most of the flight and had been put into a hovering hold to accommodate traffic control at Burbank airport. He was then cleared under IFR to VFR conditions meaning he was still in radar separation but was authorized to transition to VFR when he had sufficient ground references to land. This would suggest that the crash was more likely mechanical than pilot error but he may have been in transition to VFR and misjudged his terrain clearance when he flew into another patch of fog below safe minimum altitude for the location he was at. Just speculation until the NTSB reviews all the data but the S-76 does transmit telemetry and may have an onboard recorder as well. The S-76 can be configured for up to 12 passengers so it wasn't overloaded with just 9.

Against your advice, #9, I checked out the TMZ website and the comments are amazingly ugly. So much so --I mean way over the top -- I have to question their veracity. Are real haters are saying those terrible things or are opportunists using this tragedy to stir the pot? Our recent history would suggest the second choice is plausible.

Pretty bad flying, sad to say. Every quadrant of a normal chart is marked with a LARGE number for that block of airspace, and this is the MEA....Minimum Enroute Altitude, which will keep you from hitting anything in that square, mapped block of airspace. Not keeping track of the MEA where you are is a really Junior League error, not something you expect from a commercial helo pilot.

#24 is correct. Somebody made a bad mistake but this sort of thing happens. I feel so sorry for the family. When it’s a loved celebrity it makes National news whether it’s Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline or Payne Stewart. We are all mortal and on borrowed time but the loss of his 13 year somehow seems more poignant and hurtful.
