If you remember The Wizard of Oz you will recall that Toto, Dorothy’s dog, pulled back the curtain, revealing that the wizard was just a little guy working a panel of sound and light gimmicks to fool people into thinking he was more omnipotent than he really was. In the same way, the President’s killing of Qassem Soleimani and the aftermath reveals the four-decades-long treatment of Iranian terrorism and Israel by the foreign-policy establishment -- our presidents from Jimmy Carter up to now -- and Congress was based on myths. The brilliant Caroline Glick makes the case. For the past 40-odd years, two narratives have guided American Middle East policy.

The Wizard of Oz, such a classic story. A children's story about magic and adventure, an adult story about self deception and false crusades, a story for our times, maybe for all times.

Brilliant. The establishment is furious because Trump has overturned 40 years of myths about Iran, myths invented by Jimmy Carter, and has set about straightforwardly defeating that evil state. A lot of insight into Trump here. A Must Read, please.

Must Read. As is the Caroline Glick article Ms Feldman generously quotes here. "what they're really terrified of is what if the Right should realize if Trump can do it anyone can? . . . We're fundamentally misunderstanding what is happening if we think [Trump's] success can't continue after he's off the stage."

Brilliant and truth-filled analysis of America's treatment of Iran. It was not Carter's stupidity in this case but a carefully crafted tale of an enemy that became a boogeyman. In order to hold power over people, one must create a crisis or an enemy that serves as a perpetual excuse for inaction, intervention, mistreatment, the expenditure of tons of money or to create fear. George Orwell illustrates this very well in 1984. Alinski also spelled it out and weak but devious rulers like Obama profited from it. Whether is was communism, global warming, AIDS, cancer. Russian spying or racism, the government pushes the narrative and people are expected to comply. GWB carefully avoided crossing Iran even as their soldiers killed American soldiers from 2002 onward.
Iran was our ticket to Middle East oil as was Saudi Arabia. That is not the case any longer now that Donald Trump has removed America's handcuffs and became energy-independent and the curtain has been drawn aside. It is now up to us to identify the remaining boogeymen and expose them to the light. Our main problem now is liberalism and democracy which are not identified by the left as "problems" but our only means of salvation from the Bad Orange Man. Some things do not change. Our weapons are still freedom, independence and the 2nd Amendment. The fight goes on.

fta: Syria and Iraq should ultimately be regrouped in a loose confederation of largely autonomous zones, including Kurdistan. The inner stability and integrity from outsiders of this arrangement could be sponsored by Turkey, Russia, the United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and a respectable regime in Iran when one emerges."
This. This makes so much more sense than the artificial countries with made up borders constructed after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the end of the World Wars. Plus with more small barking dogs and few big dogs, the more busy the small barking dogs will be kept barking at each other..... and not us. If the impact of the oil sands on the global energy market can be minimized and any artificial Muslim unification (via silly Western fiat that the Middle East conform to some Western nation model) can be hampered, the radical Islam terrorism gravy train will be slowed or even stopped.

Well now it turns out that old #39 was just NOT stupid as we thought. He was willfully ignorant AND an appeaser. This is what happens when a Senator becomes a President. Quagmire. The oil crisis was just icing on his particular cake.

Also the Europeans are more reliant on the middle east to provide oil than the US are so they are being forced to either align with Trump's strategy or continue with the Carter/Obama appeasement strategy. Currently the Euros are confused, we will see which way they move soon.

One name not mentioned in the article: Reagan. He should have been there because... well, remember Iran/Contra? I think the happiest explanation is that Reagan had his hands full taking down the Soviet Empire and... uh... making the U.S. great again. He did both. But, guilty of the same mistake as Carter, we had the Beirut bombing in '83.
Which leads me to: We were looking for someone to match Reagan.
We found someone better.

#6 & 7, I may be incorrect but here goes. Old #39 was not a Senator. He was (and still is) a peanut farmer and a former Governor of Georgia. #7, your are correct but, I would also add that the Europeans are within range of Iran's missiles and probably should be taking this whole thing a little more seriously than they are. They seem to be more interested in making money off Iran then protecting their on survival.

FTA: "...the four-decades-long treatment of Iranian terrorism and Israel by the foreign-policy establishment -- our presidents from Jimmy Carter up to now and Congress -- was based on myths."
Government thrives on myths and true believers. Even today there are some who will give the FBI, CIA and others with great PR machines a pass on a coup attempt, exonerating the "good" agents and people who work for these agencies, none of whom have stepped forward to expose the corruption. And then there are counter-myths...like the dozens of "proven" gunmen who fired the fatal shot at JFK at he behest of the Soviets, Castro, the mob and/or LBJ. It's only been two decades in Iraq and Afghanistan...to no end doing good.
We don't learn the lesson, which has become very apparent since the fall of the Soviet Union. Conflict and the occasional war are incredibly profitable globally. The US loves to be the "Leader of the Free World", whatever that means anymore. We need the means to fight a two-front war, you know, with all that entails. We sent what amounts to mercenary assets to fight in places that contain no national interest that can be voiced. We allowed our prosperous NATO "allies" to become security welfare queens, and now look to expand NATO to the Russian border. We are apparently allowing our national security apparatus, the FBI, CIA and ODNI a free shot at a failed (to now) coup.
Does anyone wonder why PDT is the target of the UNIPARTY profiteers? After him, who picks up the mantle and the fight?

Toto, indeed! Trump has pulled the curtain back on decades of corruption, false narratives, fake diplomacy, shear wizardry, and utter incompetence of our most trusted institutions. At this point, I question whether we went to the moon.

Hate to quibble with the caption writer for must reads. But methinks Nasty Pelosi is the Wicked Witch of the West and her congressional goons are her brigade of flying monkeys. This excellent article points out that the reason for most of the terrorism in the Middle East is due to the Prevaricating Peanut Picker Jammmy Carter and his imbecilic selective human rights program. He is responsible for the ouster of the Shah of Iran and the Mullahs taking over. There have always been Iranians where I work. Most are nice polite people who, although they are Muslims, aren't into killing people who don't agree with them. When the Shah was in charge many Iranian girls wore micro mini mini skirts. When the Mullahs took over they dressed like bee keepers. One of great things about PT is he isn't afraid to rock the boat.

The big difference between now and 1983 is that now we are a net energy exporter.

Number 6, are you seriously saying Carter was a Senator before he became President? Also, Carter's attempt at a military extraction of the hostages somewhat belies the notion that he was willfully ignorant. I like much of what Clarice and Glick have to say; but a shortcoming of both writings is the lack of a suggestion of exactly what Carter should have done. Just how much should he have risked the lives of the hostages and the lives of American servicemen in attempts to free the hostages? That's not to say that Glick and Clarice are wrong about American policy being based on myths; but it does go to the extent to which condemnation should be heaped on Carter's head.

I have to disagree with the staff's comment that equates Queen Nancy with the Scarecrow. Go watch the movie. The Scarecrow was actually a lot smarter than he gave himself credit for. In contrast Pelosi is nowhere near as clever as she thinks she is. She most closely resembles Miss Gulch, who absconds with Toto, (who then escapes from her) and then meets her demise in the tornado. I can't wait to see the aftermath of the tornado that is going to hit the DemocRats in November.

FTA … And what they're really terrified of is what if the right should realize if Trump can do it anyone can? Yes, Trump is brilliant at what he does and yes, he's a one-off who won't be replaced.
Yes he's a one off and I would be very interested in his endorsement for a successor. Furthermore there is no term limit on the position of national security advisor, or Immigration Czar. or Swamp Reduction Czar. This could be fun.

Trump is Alexander the Great who cut right through the Gordian knot. In the new American Doctrine Iran will not get away with the small stuff by proxies. Common sense, just ask Soleimani.
The person that shot down the Ukrainian passenger plane also exposed the Iranian regime. What was a corrupt mendicant country like Ukraine running flying full flights out a country at war with their US benefactor? Ukranians pop consistently among US enemies: impeachment, Crowdstrike, Chalupa, Vindman and now Iran. Why are our Canadians allies flying so much to Tehran? The millions of Persian exiles living here are doing next to nothing to help US in this war. Fortunately, Reza Pahlavi Twitter is showing some activity.
President Trump’s America First doctrine is illuminating the World with clarity. Now tweeting in Farsi. Thank you God for sending US such a great leader at this time.

#12 I used to think Iranians were muslim. But I have met several through ESL classes and find that most of them are anti-religion. They all hate their oppressive government (especially the older ones who remember a better life with more freedom). They are very careful to express this disgust in hushed tones, because they firmly believe the Iranian government has "watchers" over here. Even those who have achieved citizenship and never want to live in Iran again, still want to be able to safely visit their family. There will be a party in the streets if they can get rid of the islamic strangle hold on their country.
