South Korea recently denied draft exemptions for members of the K-pop boy band and international sensation BTS. BTS is one of South Korea’s most dynamic economic and cultural exports, worth about $4.65 billion annually to the South Korean economy. But despite the hundreds of millions of dollars of lost economic output involved, the boys of BTS must serve. The South Korean military cites many reasons for the denial of exemptions, but one reason may simply be urgent need. Thanks to the nation’s critically low birth rate, just 0.88 children expected per woman at 2019 levels, the army is expected to shed over 100,000 troops in the next four years.

It's not a crisis, it's a planned life. Children are great and necessary for survival but they are also the biggest drag in life on careers and accomplishments. Yeah, I know, it's all in your definition of "accomplishment." They are no longer just cheap help on the farm, they cost a fortune to raise and educate. American whites are going through the same "crisis" but the other races that we import have figured out that there is great benefit in creating lots of children and eventually becoming the majority. That's how we get people like Omar elected. The rewards come a little later and are financed by those who planned their lives and restricted the number of children.
As for the main topic, military service, everybody should share that task, including the children of the people who send us to war.

Wow - long piece. Some simple things like fitting all your kids in 1 vehicle is a daunting task if you have more than 2. The days of staking the kids up like firewood in the back of the station wagon are over.

And why can't we pile kids up in the back of the station wagon? Because it's too dam dangerous due to all the drivers on the roads. And why is that?
Too many IMMIGRANTS and the children born to them. Americans CHOSE to have a replacement-level birth rate (around 2.1) via contraception and abortion and choice but Teddy Kennedy and the other communists created Hart-Cellar "Immigration Reform Act" and opened the borders in 1965.
You know the USA's population reached 200 million in October of 2006? Now it stands at over 337 million. ALL MIGRANTS and the children born to them. Too many!
The only reason we would need additional people is to maintain the vast social welfare apparatus that is government. We wouldn't need it if there already weren't too many people who either can't or won't take care of themselves.
Seal up the borders and deport all illegals. Quit buying into the idea that we have to have economic growth and that the only way to achieve that is through population expansion. Abandon the idea that migrants from high-fertility rate countries can just come here and replace the current population.
There is no magic dirt!

#3 - Check out the demographics for Omar's Minnesota district...it isn't Somali migrants electing her. It wasn't migrants who kept Ellison in office previously, either. BTW: It's 63% white; 17% black; 6% Asian; 9% Hispanic.

Interesting observations about aging societies and lower interest rates. Ditto regarding home ownership and fertility and the delaying effect on both due to student loans. The trend (I hope it's a trend) toward getting two year degrees and learning a trade instead of getting a degree in 'gender studies' might be the answer.
I think that, aside from not being able to sell suburban McMansions, downsizing can be good, sustainable, and perhaps enjoyable. Missed the point in one are. FTA: Attacking the trade deficit through tariffs fundamentally misunderstands that the trade imbalance is a consequence of a deeper financial and demographic imbalance. No. It doesn't. Countries will take advantage where they can and tariffs are being used by this administration to say "We see what you're doing and you need to stop that."

People are self-absorbed, and want LOTS of stuff. And fertility is a fleeting thing for many of us. Many put off child bearing "for later" when it is more convenient, and then discover that it is no longer possible. Others have no intention of being bothered with children. Many cannot seem to be able to afford more than one child.
When we got the ability to block human fertility, we blocked the replacement of people in the successful, technologically advanced societies. At the same time the failed societies, the disastrous, sad places where people still lived like they did in the 1800s, or the 1200s, continued to have myriad children. And many of them died, but we sent doctors and drugs all over the world so we could save these people in failed, dysfunctional, non-productive societies.
And now these millions and billions of children from failed societies, with their failed, dysfunctional cultures and their substandard genetics (1400 years of marrying your cousins, and more) are coming here in large numbers to take over our world.....and destroy it.
And a lot of our folks are assisting in the process. And more and more of the first world folks are convinced that some imaginary "climate change" means that they should have even fewer children.
This is called "bad luck". Many call it cultural suicide.
One of my nieces is pregnant with her fourth child, the three she has a wonderful kids. I have informed them that we will provide for their educations, with the unstated hope that they will not feel financial pressures to limit their children. Another very Catholic, very patriotic friend has 7 children. The world actually needs MORE good people having good children and raising them as Americans who believe in our culture and our Constitution.
