The media insists that Jorge Bergoglio is the pope of the common man even as he turns his nose up at populist movements, hobnobs with celebrities, plots with UN elitists, and slaps the hand of a ropeline enthusiast. The last controversy — a sour Francis was captured on video hitting the hand of a woman who grabbed his hand and then barking at her — was unseemly enough to generate a papal apology the next day.
The pope’s mask of benignity has fallen before. For my money, his cruelest and most telling encounter was with an innocent altar boy who held his hands together piously. The pope mocked the bewildered boy,

This pope is a vicious old man. I'm catholic and I say throw him out. This man has no compassion and he's a political monster.

It seems that the Catholics has gotten themselves an Obama of their own. For life, too.

Imagine if there were a video clip of President Trump slapping a lady for touching him.
That would have been the rationale for the third article of impeachment.

To see how it’s done, this Pope might want to sit down and watch “Shoes Of The Fisherman” with Anthony Quinn - “The Cardinal” was pretty good too.

The parish priests and deacons seem to love this Pope. I don't get it. I'm with George Neumayr.

I saw the tape. I advise anyone critical of the pope on this one to see it, too.
I would have cold cocked her in the schnozz. I don't care for this pope but... broken clocks and all.

I've heard the woman wished to raise the issue of Catholic persecution in China, can anyone verify that?
Watch her face throughout the encounter, grim and urgent anticipation as the pope approached, shock as he cut away just short of her, desperation as she grabbed his hand and utterly destroyed by his response. As you see this incident, there's more going on than someone in line just overstepping her bounds.

I'm Catholic and attend mass regularly, and I can tell you that many priests don't care for this pope.

I see both sides too. As Pope Francis approaches, she makes the sign of the cross and is obviously desperate to talk to him. He is an elderly man and she DOES yank him back to her as he tries to walk away. If this was about the Church in China, I understand her desire to speak to him and his alarm at her grabbing him like that. His security failed - this never should have happened. What's sad is that this incident has gotten so much attention and the media coverage and subsequent online commentary has dwarfed the coverage of suffering Catholics in China.

I am a Catholic too and if anybody had grabbed my arm and jerked me backwards like this female did I would have slugged her as hard as I could. She's lucky the Pope just pulled away and tapped her hand/arm as he did.

It's not the only record of the pope slapping someone. He did it to the outstretched hand of a person in South America. That person was not touching the pope nor could touch the pope. Not close enough, but the slap was a hard one.

When it comes to the lady grabbing the Pope and him slapping her away, he needs to up the bonuses of his Swiss Guards. They should have never let anybody grab the Pope like that.

Goodness, it does get tiresome hearing about catholics. Who appointed catholicism #1? Even the old "cute catholic" movies with Barry Fitzgerald and other "cute" actors made me sick.

Pay Wall. Too bad, but I've hit my limit on access to American Spectator, and I choose not to use pay sites.
I'm sure Mr Neumayr's article would be informative as always, but we all know by now that we have a Fake Pope.
Whether the woman was out of bounds and Bergoglio was justified in slapping her hand away, I'll never know. But I do know for sure that we have a communist pope.

There used to be a centuries old saying, the way of noting that something was obviously true....."Is the Pope a Catholic."
It is no longer useful, since this Pope clearly isn't a Catholic. He's a Communist.

I still want to know how one duly elected Pope was pushed aside, and replaced with this man who appeared to stand against everything the Catholic Church was believed to represent.
Riddle me that, Batman.

If he was truly a man of God, he would not have slapped the hand of the woman who was probably experiencing the moment of a lifetime meeting him. I think he probably got spooked by getting grabbed like that. But he should not have reacted that way, not if he truly walked with God. Most of us know by now that he doesn;t walk with God.

You know, right now is the first time I've ever paid attention to the Pope's legal name.
So, in answer to the old joke question, "Is the Pope Italian?", the answer is Yes.

I think people are making too much of the "slapping" video. It was just a very funny little incident. The sudden change in the Pope's demeanor was understandable, but priceless none-the-less. And when I told my wife about what the woman had done, and that she appeared to be Chinese, she just laughed and laughed. Something about that kind of behavior is typical of our Chinese-born family members.

Can't begin to tell you the number of Catholics, myself included, who dearly dislike this Pope for the reasons above, surely, but also for many other reasons. He doesn't help the Faith survive in hard times, that's for sure.
