When I was a boy growing up in Ballwin, Missouri, one of my family’s Advent and Christmas traditions was to decorate our house by placing artificial candles in all of the windows, giving our home a warm, welcoming glow. But one window, the main one in our living room, didn’t have a candle until Christmas Eve, when we would put a real, lit candle by it.
That was a candle, Mom and Dad explained, for the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, looking for a place to stay that holy night more than 2,000 years ago. Mary and Joseph — the Mother of God and her spouse most chaste —

Did this man just compare Jesus to the thieving, drug-using, insane, street-mucking people who make up most of the homeless population everywhere? This man who has a limousine and a large home in New York paid for by the contributions of churchgoers? Does this man have a candle in his window now?

Here's where I left off: FTA, 'As usual, Pope Francis said it so well,' no need to waste time on a establishment tool of a marxist fool.

Where do these “leaders” in the Catholic Church come up with the lie that the Holy Family was homeless. They were not! At Joseph used the gift that was given him by God to provide a home for Mary and Jesus. St. Joseph was a carpenter. He was paid for his work. He provided for his family. Going to the town of Bethlehem to pay their taxes showed that St Joseph obeyed the law. Just because there were no rooms to stay in that were available does not make the Holy Family “homeless.” Those libs sure can twist words. Dolan is bonkers.
Oh and let’s correct the twisted info that the Blessed Mother was pregnant and unmarried. She was married to St Joseph at the time of the visit from the Angel, sent from God, to ask if she would bear a son , It was the Jewish custom for the couple to marry but not live together for a whole year. The husband would prepare a house to bring his bride to. It was during that year that the angel appeared to Mary and Joseph.
Why would anyone think the God Almighty would make it look like the Mother of His son disobeyed His laws.
Merry Christmas

Is Dolan still Catholic? I'm not sure.

Jesus was no socialist, far from it:
Matthew 26
v6. Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the leper,
v7 a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at the table.
v8. But the disciples were indignant when they saw this, and said, “Why this waste?
v9. “For this perfume might have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.”
v10. But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you bother the woman? For she has done a good deed to Me.
v11. “For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have Me.
v12. “For when she poured this perfume on My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial.
v13. “Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.”
Then there's the parable of the talents given by a master to his slaves found in Matthew 25:14-30 wherein the third slave is scorned for burying his money and not using it to make more money. Leftist revisionists try to twist this, but it is clearly about trusting God and using what He gives you, no matter what.

How can a high official of a church be so ignorant of the Bible? FTA: "The Son of God was homeless; his earthly parents were immigrants and refugees." It's not in any bible I've read.

Not homeless. Victims of an over powerful government. Forced to go to Bethlehem because of imperial decree. Then forced to flee to another land to escape a murderous and jealous King Herod.
The Holy Family was not homeless. They were fleeing government tyranny.

Twisting history and rewriting the Bible to fit your agenda. The Cardinal is a true democrat.

FTA: "It’s a laudable program with a wonderful goal: No one should have to sleep without a roof over his head."
False. And stupid. Here's a small list of people who should have to sleep without a roof over their head: People who steal from you because they're addicted to drugs. People who pose a threat to themselves or others. People who are incapable of even the most basic decent behaviour in response to those trying to help them. People who enter our country illegally and then complain about the conditions they find there. People who feel they are entitled to a roof over their head without having to work for it.
Putting a free roof over the heads of the people listed above is bad for them and us. It teaches them that nothing is expected of them and, as a result, they expect nothing of themselves. It destroys them and our society.
Meanwhile, there are very definitely those who need a different kind of roof over their heads. Some people need to be humanely institutionalized for their protection and ours: the seriously mentally ill, recovering addicts, and those few developmentally disabled who are truly and legitimately unable to care for themselves.
Jesus of Nazareth healed the sick; he didn't indulge the indigent. And he was very, very clear how high the moral and ethical standards would be for anyone seeking to live under his roof.

As soon as I saw who wrote this piece I decided not to read it. I figured I would learn more from the comments. I was not wrong.
Many thoughtful comments here (as alway). Thank you.

If the religious geniuses could fight out a way to separate the responsible homeless and poor populations from the irresponsible homeless and poor populations, and direct their attention and aid to where it would do the most good, much of that societal problem would take care of itself.

Mary and Joseph were not "homeless" street people, and I am getting sick of leftists misusing the Bible to promote their politics. The idiot writer of this article must not have bothered to read the gospels. Joseph was a gainfully employed carpenter. He had a job, he had a home, and he had money he earned from his employment. The only reason they were without a roof over their head that particular night is because they were traveling....to pay their taxes...because of a government decree. Joseph and Mary were middle class taxpayers.
