Score another million votes for President Trump in the coming 2020 election.
The president has gotten rid of a despicable little micromanaging regulation left over from the Obama era, restoring the citizens' right to buy the light bulbs that fit their preferences and needs. According to The Hill:
“Today the Trump Administration chose to protect consumer choice by ensuring that the American people do not pay the price for unnecessary overregulation from the federal government,” Brouillette said in a statement. (Snip) The American people will continue to have a choice on how they light their homes.”

Yeah, I pretty much have a lifetime supply of the contraband bulbs too. I have to admit now that LEDs are more reasonably priced that I put them in all the awkward places where I hate changing bulbs (like ceiling cans). A few have even made it to ground level.

If you break one of them curly monster bulbs, read the package. You have created a mercury hazmat situation. Seriously.
The curly ones bother my eyes - perhaps I am imagining that, but it makes it no less annoying.
The deal with the 2007 law was that it was going to save us some ridiculous amount of oil - 8 billion barrels sticks in my mind.
I wonder if Upton fathered little Greta, the mentally ill Swedish nag.

Sorry, but technology has passed this debate by. I don't even see the curly bulbs for sale any more. i have bought nothing but LED's for a while now. If you watch for sales, they are pretty cheap and last nearly forever. They are incredibly efficient and you can buy them in color temperatures for whatever lighting effect you prefer. I replaced all the old incandescent bulbs in my RV( about 16 in total) with LED's and i can turn on all of them for about the power consumption on one old fixture.
It tells you a lot about people in politics and news that they stll rag on the curly tube ones and don't seem to be aware of how pervasive LED's are

Good effort, #6. But I claim that those latest and greatest LEDs still can't equal the light color of the incandescents!

#4 is correct. That was Bush rolling over to the greenies. The low flow toilets when they first came out were dreadful. Two or three flushes to get rid of the....er....solid waste thus no real saving of water until technology finally caught up 5-6 years later. Plus, the first one I had to install should have come with a plunger since any soft, heavy TP would clog it. They seem to work much better now but the incessant meddling by the feds is what really bothers me.

I too prefer the light of an incandescent bulb but there are other considerations as well. Out here in the country we use them for heat; dog house, wellhouse, chick brooders, etc. Also for a night reading light I want a 25 watt bulb, not a bulb that uses 25 watts but puts out the light of a 60 watt. In simple terms I want it to be my choice. Pretty radical, I know.

I have a literal closet full of conventional Edison bulbs, although some of the more unusual types were not purchased in quantity. I'll be happy to get them again.
LEDs are OK for extremely hard to get to locations (top of my cathedral ceiling has spots for the mounted heads) so LEDs are OK there. I like the light quality from incandescents better, in most applications. The color temperature of LEDs is often quite odd, and they used to be extremely expensive, still much higher than the $0.59 for a regular bulb.

The price of incandescent bulbs skyrocketed once they were hard to buy. I don't mind the LED bulbs but to me they smell. I had several of the curly ones smoke and break off.

I have a cabinet full if incandescent bulbs because the CFs gave me headaches, but the led bulbs are great and I've switched to them exclusively. I didn't do it because they forced me to; I did it because I wanted to. Free market, what a concept!

How much sooner would we have had the rapidly declining prices for full-spectrum LEDs if government hadn't "solved" the problem of Global Warming by forcing everyone to buy useless fluorescents?
I, too, stockpiled the incandescents. But it turned out, like all Chinese junk, they didn't last. You could no longer get the lightbulbs we grew up with that lasted years.
I now have LED light tied to motion sensors in all the common areas of my house. Walk through the family room, any hallway, any stairwell, and an LED automatically illuminates in a color, and brightness hand-picked for that location. A minute later it goes out. Same for the kitchen, with glorious, bright under-counter strip lighting, soft above-counter fill lighting, and in-cabinet and wine rack puck lighting.
How much sooner would I have had this stuff if government hadn't stepped in to "help"?

#16, here's the best tip you'll ever get on your next washing machine purchase: buy a Speed Queen. Instead of spitting on your clothes and gently massaging their bottoms, it drowns and paddles those puppies into submission like a real washing machine should. Made this discovery after our last washer purchase a few years back when we had to return our new, used-to-be-great Kenmore piece-o-crap to the now defunct Sears in our neighborhood. I researched what kind of washers are used in laundromats, and voila: Speed Queen.
It's a machine almost like Mama used to have. Except it stops when I open the top to watch the laundry show.

It's a royal pain in the neck trying to buy light bulbs at Home Depot or anywhere. There must be hundreds different kinds of bulbs to buy and the bulb makers are certainly proud of their prices. And some of them put out this cold-looking hideous white light that you might find at a cemetery. I used to be able to go into HD, walk up to the light bulb aisle and take what I needed within seconds and head to checkout. Now, I don't know what the hell I am looking at or which bulbs I need and have to get help. And the floor help usually responds with the deer in the headlights look. Now, I see these new deco bulbs that appear to have these brown filaments that look like miniature cinnamon sticks. Just glad I had taken my late father's advice and hoarded the traditional incandescent light bulbs year ago as this as helped retain sanity over here.
How about some newer model cars that are equipped with these eye-piercing headlights that leave you snow-blind after they pass you at night?

I've always been curious to hear how much gas/oil/coal was used to replace the heat from incandescent lights-especially in larger buildings such as offices, malls, factories, etc. when the gubmint shoved these down our throats.

Sorry for the second but I should state that LED bulbs do work great on my RV , which is used mostly for boondocking, as they don't drain storage batteries nearly as fast. That and flashlights..

Back when there was talk of banning the incandescent bulbs, I started stockpiling them. I thought I had enough to last my lifetime, but what I didn't take into consideration is they were all made in China. None of those last as long as the good old Made in America ones. Now I'm out of a lot of them. Please have them start being made in America again.

My pet peeve---not mentioned here---that I wish PDJT would address is this: the plastic bezels that cover auto headlamp bulbs. They used to be glass, but the plastic ones become cloudy as they age. I can't believe this doesn't reduce the effectiveness of the lamps, and therefore road safety. My guess is that it lowered cost to manufacturers---never passed on to consumers, natch. And it was done under the cover story of increasing fuel efficiency, by a negligible factor; reduced weight of what? and ounce or three?

When you by the "Edison bulbs" the Chinese will thank you for your business. Yes, choice is a good thing, but don't think some American manufacturer is going to set up shop again to satisfy the likely small demand for household lighting. Eventually these will sell for a premium...and the hoarders will smile.

This is not the science of rocketry. There are those who wish to control us, order us around and bend us to their little wills. There are also those who want us to be free and to be able to choose what we wish to buy. The market will then decide how many of the possible products appear on our store shelves. Those who want to control us think that they know better. They sometimes also have friends and supporters who make the products they want to force on us. Never vote for such people. That is the lesson for today. You should have learned it in the first grade (or earlier).

"energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can be altered from one form to another"
Using an incandescent bulb on nights below 72 degrees or anytime in the winter across the vast majority of the USA, that "lighting inefficiency" is useful "heating".
ie: 100% efficient

Not unlike the ban on plastic grocery bags. You can still have them but they cost 5 cents a bag. That adds up to a nice profit and a tax on stupidity.

Agree with #24. But it needs to be the Commercial model. We got one earlier this year after our less-than-3-year old Maytag "high efficiency" puked. Would love to show you the video I took of it "agitating". Clothes floating nearly motionless in the water. Do research on appliances; the information is out there. Lord willing, it should last me the rest of my life...

I agree with those that say it should have been the market that decided. I use mostly LEDs now because the prices are now reasonable and the choices are far broader. They have always lasted far longer and used far less power. The light "color" choices are good and getting better. I won't go back to incandescents but that's MY choice. Others should be able to make their own choices.

It's not just the cost, #29, glass is heavier than plastic and will keep vehicles from reaching the mandated 54 mpg number. They save weight wherever and however they can.
