California's population inched toward 40 million last year, but the state experienced the slowest rate of population growth since 1900.Why is that? What's not to like about California? The weather is awesome, the scenery is breathtaking, the people are beautiful, and there's abundance everywhere.Except in housing. California is a fabulous place to live -- if you're a millionaire.Associated Press: More than 158,000 people moved to California over the 12 month period that ended July 1. But more than 197,000 people left.

Impossible! Illegals and homeless are pouring into California. Are they not being counted as "population"? I know they are all voters supporting the popular vote that NP hypes.

Based on its health dangers, the state should be known as Coliformia. And the capitol should be in Needles.

California is hollowing out and becoming like much of the third world - no middle class, and the population split between the very rich and the very poor. It isn't a model for long-term success.

There are a lot of conservative areas. Most of the state, in fact. I'm in one of them.
We could take the state back. We'd have to bust a few heads, though. The chances of that eventually happening are not zero, considering the metrosexual limp-wrists and shrieking harpies who dominate the other side.

I'm with number 1... if the population is decreasing, why are there apartment buildings under construction everywhere, neighborhood zoning laws being overridden, and heavy traffic everywhere? Zoning is being deliberately ignored due to state govt mandates to allow multi-family divisions/additions/garage conversions in neighborhoods with single-family zoning (Its happening on my single-family street). Not to mention the frequent radio broadcasts urging landlords to provide Section 8 housing.

It's actually surprising that the population is dropping. I know that people are moving out but I would think that the illegals that flock there would make that up and then some. It seems that a lot more are moving out than I suspected to be losing population.

Have to imagine California has tons of migrants (both legal and illegal) moving into the state and living there. It is very telling that more people are leaving California than moving there. The state is becoming unlivable because of all the lefty policies and corruption there.

They're in a fix. Maybe Newsom should dispense poop-scoops to all new arrivals. --Vets for Trump 2020

California once Golden State is now the Brown State, as in 3rd world open latrine. Worst roads, most dilapidated schools, dysfunctional on every level, toxic to the population. Productive people plot their escape.

California has to discover gold again to regain population growth. What it does have are gold craps littering the streets of San Francisco and L.A.

Not to worry, they'll make up for it by importing illegals.

Hunsinger, the financial genius, uses a lot of words to describe their problem where one would suffice, "democrats." Besides the change in population they have created an upper echelon of overpaid government workers, teachers, police, trash collectors and have installed unqualified goons making upwards of $200K to which they are going to owe huge pensions. Now they are not in a position where they can cut salaries or taxes without driving themselves further into debt. Many of them are in so deep that they can't leave. The crash will be tremendous. Just wait until one or more of the tech giants decides to leave or use significantly more offshore labor.

Suggestion. In my neighborhood here in Houston if you have a dog there are some rules. Your dog is stupid enough to poop indiscriminately therefore you must WALK your dog at his convenience.
When WALKING your dumb dog in my neighborhood it must be on a leash so it doesn't attempt to eat children.
When it finally poops you must pick it up for home disposal.
California !!! You have a solution at hand (eeeeuw) You have more homed persons who voted for your governor than homeless. Let each homed Democrat twice a day take a homeless and WALK him and pick up behind him, her,it, them etc.

As very young, very new newlyweds, we moved to Southern California mid-50s. The state was glorious with beaches, parks, palms, wonderful climate. But after three years and a baby son, we realized we couldn't really afford to buy a house and stay. So, we came home to Texas and have never regretted it, particularly as we have watched California become more expensive and more burdensome to her taxpayers.
