More than 140 New York City elementary and middle schools had at least one grade where more than 90 percent of kids flunked their state exams last academic year, according to a Post analysis. A total of 23 schools had at least one entire class where not a single student passed a math or English proficiency test given annually to kids in grades 3 to 8.(Snip) With many of the city’s lowest-performing schools spending in excess of $30,000 annually per student, Chu called for urgent scrutiny of the Department of Education. “What exactly is being taught in these classrooms?” she asked.

I know just what the Dems will do to fix this! They'll vote to RAISE TAXES and INCREASE SPENDING in the Dept. of Ed., so they can they skim even more money off the books for themselves. The kids, you say? Well, what about them? The Dems want these kids to be blithering idiots so the can a) keep voting Democrat and b) become even more dependent upon the state.

Bernie will fix this. Public school kiddies need not only a free lunch, but free breakfast and dinner too!

A high school student posted on YouTube that each day the class watches either VICE or The Young Turks for an hour. Give. Me. Strength. I thank God that my grandsons in high school now have never watched tv and are homeschooled.

Putting a child in the public school system should be a crime! The facts support it!

Chaos is taking place in the classroom. That is the answer. There is no time for learning.
And Barack Obola's executive order, issued July 26, 2012, titled On The Education Of African American Students, created a quota system for discipline.

Here in Texas, if a school has a failing grade for more than two years in a row the state takes control from the elected school board and administrators and manages the school. In New York that would likely only worsen matters.

NYC has a myriad of fine private schools.
Our area has an excellent public school system.
New Yorkers, please don't move here. However, anyone with children in the public system there should get their children into one of the private schools.
Now, about this place, even with great schools, great teachers, and outstanding students our family's kids always have their OWN reading group of ONE CHILD ~ them ~ in the primary grades, and by Highschool they usually are allowed to continue independent study in the library pursuing any books or other resources there.
Failure to get a top score (within 5 points of perfection) on the SAT or other standard tests is just unknown around our house.
Same with LSAT, and GRE later on in life.
The eldest grand daughter just the other day told us "school is for socialization".... so we told her to double up on her more difficult reading, and BTW here's a 3" thick dictionary to learn to use!
Bwahahahahaha!
We use the OED as a good substitute for corporate news ~ but it's still a tad heavy for the young ones.

Prime areas where GOP should be sending the message that the current representatives aren't doing anything to improve their opportunities.
Don't bring up vouchers either, but simply remind them that Democrats aren't looking to improve things.

My very liberal niece teaches 6th grade science in the Bronx. She has to sub-rent a room in her apt to make living there affordable. Everyday tasks are so difficult. She's a Bernie fan. I think she is crazy. She lives with her choices.

Not only are the schools attempting to indoctrinate the kids to become good little communists, they fail at teaching and beg for more money.

Goobermint schools are nothing more than state-supported daycare centers and indoctrination centers for socialism and communism. Forget the three R's. Forget American history and civics, too.

Lol, you're talking about NYC. A city run by democrats. These poor kids are on the democratic plantation where they don't want kids to succeed. The dumber you are the greater the chance you''ll vote democratic. Why do you think democrats are against charter schools, school choice and voucher programs. They don't want your kids educated. Its a damn shame that these kids parents still don't get it. They sacrifice their kids future to vote for these communists. The sickening part is, they have a communist mayor who brags about it,. Wake up. Got it.

Here's a question for all you Christians out there, What are you
going to say to your God on the day of judgement when he ask's
you why you sent the most precious gift he could give you to the
devil to be educated, sorry, indoctrinated. If memory serves me
correctly, that is a responsibility of parents according to that book
you say you believe in. Just asking!

Public schools serve to consume tax dollars and to provide easy, high-paid jobs to unionized Marxists who instill their ideology in future generations of Democrat voters, with the long-term goal of eradicating what remains of traditional US culture and values. It's almost quaint how the school parental advisory panel member thinks anything useful at all is being taught in the classroom.
