Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday he believes the Senate should vote quickly to dismiss two impeachment charges against President Trump and avoid “an embarrassing scene” in the chamber.
McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, told Fox News Radio he did not support “a show trial” and believes the Senate “ought to vote and move on” after Democrats present their case and the president’s lawyers respond.
The Senate will have to make a decision after hearing the opening arguments from both sides, he said.“Have we learned enough after listening to all of this to go on and vote on the two very weak articles of impeachment?”

This quick impeachment and dismissal vote worries me. It feels like the swamp creatures are going to wash this mess away..."Nothing to see here. Move along!!" It's happened too many times in the last 30 years.

I have changed my thinking on this. I now agree with McConnell that the Dims have (will) send the Senate a Nothing Burger and now want the Pubbies to cook them a seven-course meal out of it. McConnell says the House had the cooking duties and that the Senate will evaluate the articles of impeachment when they are submitted to the Senate for trial. He correctly points out that the jury cannot prosecute or defend the case, merely evaluate it and reach a verdict. The Shiff/Sandler show put together a woe-be-gone excuse for impeachment and rightfully should be laughed out of the Senate.
Back to work! KAGA!

I am in complete agreement with Mitch here. This entire political hatchet job manufactured by the Rats has been a farce and a sham from the get go, and the Senate GOP should dismiss it with all the contempt it deserves. No sense in allowing the Senate Rats opportunity to add to the nonsense. Sure, the Rats will howl in protest about a lack of fairness or seriousness (in fact, they've already started doing this), but let them. Everyone has witnessed the schiff show that went down in the House, and sensible Americans just want to move on at this point.

I also absolutely agree!! And I hope they don't let Trump talk them out of it.....there is no way that they should even dignify/legitimize this travesty!!!

Sure, let's just stop this right now, after all, that's the easy way out and gawd knows the GOP likes the easy way out. Getting out now leaves all the lies the Dems have spewed, left on the table. Mitch would prefer to end this here and now and not force the Dems to prove their lies. Nope, let's just let those lies continue to float about. I can hear the Dems now, DT didn't even defend himself because he is guilty guilty guilty. If the GOP went ahead and did their job to protect DT, I am sure the Dems would complain there as well. However, at least the GOP could get our side of the story out there and on the record. If the facts are on our side, and we can prove them, why on earth not do it? Looks as if DT will be impeached in the House and left with no one in the Senate to prove the Dems are liars. Shameful.

Clearly, Mr. Elaine "China Connection" Chao is starting to feel some tightening in his pants and loosening in his stools.

I think McConnell is right but will add that the Trump administration should pursue criminal charges against the violators in a real court, not a political show trial. Get Trump's exoneration by the Senate in the books as quickly as possible, then move the game beyond simply more politics.

That works for me. Anything over five minutes spent on this is giving it way too much credence.
Spit in Pelosi's eye.

I think Mitch should also skip the opening arguments. He should just stand at the podium and say, “We’ve read the transcript of the phone call and heard the “witnesses” at the inquiry and there is absolutely nothing there. Have a nice day, I’m off to lunch.”

Agree with Mitch on this. The house intelligence and judicial committees both put on their show and nobody took the bait. Now Schumer wants a full blown trial to throw more mud and with probably a larger audience. These phony charges don't deserve the dignity of a full blown senate trial.
