The Hill reported this week that should the House Democrats be foolish enough (they were) to pass the two articles of impeachment (which summarized are We hate Trump and We’re super mad Trump won in 2016) Senate Republicans will drag their feet on calling witnesses for a potential Senate trial.
While I realize the default position of most Republican Senators is not one of political or moral courage, I would encourage them to dig deep and see if for once they might be able to muster some. Their excuses for not wanting to call witnesses range from it “wouldn’t be popular” to it “might drag this on.” Well boo-hoo.

Sorry, did I miss the house vote on articles? This should never get to the senate.

It’s very simple. President Trump promised to drain the swamp, and here’s a big, fat opportunity, prepared and served-up by the Swampies themselves. That’s why the trial should happen.

I agree with #2, there are some R's that are afraid of a trial that could expose them as being a part of the coup and also part of the DNC/Clinton corruption in Ukraine. I would like to see a full trial with witnesses and have this drag out for several months rather than a quick and quiet acquittal.

The Democrats have greatly overplayed a weak hand. Americans are bored with it so much CNN has lost half its viewers. Most trial lawyers would say quit while you’re ahead. Many a client who have insisted on taking the stand at this point have lived to regret it. Even if they keep their story straight they can be so full of confidence they end up sounding cocky and annoy a sympathetic jury into changing its mind.

I believe the President should have his day in court, just like any other citizen.

One thing is for sure: They can't remove President Trump from office without a trial. Now, who among the Senators, from both parties, truly wants a trial? They know, without a shadow of doubt, that President Trump will be acquitted, and many of them will face investigation, and probably be voted out of office in 2020.
If they don't understand that President Trump would never go down without a terrific fight, and a scorched-earth campaign against the vulnerable Senators and House members, they don't yet understand the President!

“Wouldn’t be popular”?? In which country do these Republican senators live? Wouldn’t be popular with the Deep Sate is what they mean.

Having a big trial would be overplaying our hand. The country is TIRED of this arguing. Senate should state the facts and dismiss the whole thing. Otherwise the Republicans will look as bad as the Dems and crucial votes will be lost. They should be the adults in the room.

The real reason that they don't want any witnesses called is that many of them have had their hands deep in the corrupt "cookie jar" themselves, or their family, and are scared as hell that this Swamp Cleanout will sweep them up, too.

Easiest solution: Make a motion to dismiss and then do so.
Stop wasting time.

I don't agree with those who advocate a full dress trial. The country will not sit rapt as each deep stater is exposed, as much as we would like to believe that possible. The culprits would have plenty of resources at their disposal to muddy the water in a made-for-TV production . And anyway, this travesty will be handled as McConnell chooses to handle it, (hopefully) in consultation with PDT.
Our opinions don't matter, and I don't say that in anger or frustration. It's just the way of it. Let's go with the flow and leave the heavy lifting to Barr and Durham.

Absolutely #4. Lindsey Graham wants to gloss over the important part John McCain played in getting the Steele Dossier back to the US and into the news. I heard him spin JMc's part of the story this weekend and I knew the fix was in. No one is going to pay for this debacle. It won't be long before John Brennan, Jim Comey and James Clapper will be back in government...you'll see.
Of course the perfumed, prancing, preening, low-T, Republican Senate wants to gloss over this. A bunch of beta males too old to cut the mustard. I'm surprised that President Trump is acquiescing.
