If you happen to live in or around Joliet Township in Illinois, located a bit to the southwest of Chicago, and you happen to be looking for work, there’s some good news coming your way. The Township is looking to hire a new clerk. If you’re interested, the job will entail many of the tasks you’d likely expect, including answering phones, filing and making copies. There is one special requirement, however. You have to be a Democrat to apply. (CBS Chicago) A help-wanted ad in the suburbs raised eyebrows this week – with its suggestion that only Democrats need apply. Such a restriction would be illegal.

They pretty much screen for political ideology, which explains why most government employees are so insufferable. Now, they're just being open about it. Sometimes I wonder why they feel so safely emboldened to just let it rip while we have a republican president in office. It scares me.

How will the employer KNOW one is a Democrat and not a Republican? Has Illinois done away with the ''secret ballot'' and hacked ballot boxes? Well duh!

As the article states, access to voting records is available. The only thing wrong with the ad is that they mistakenly stated the obvious. Also, there are plenty of Republicans in Illinois (and California and New York), we suffer more than you know. The urban areas are D, the rest of the state is largely R.

This is one step beyond affirmative action, one step too far. Maybe the employer wrote this under "notes to self" and the advertising dept picked it up by accident? No, it's Illinois and this is a Chicago suburb.

Some smart and qualified Republican should apply and then sue the town into bankruptcy. This is clearly a case of outrageous discrimination.

Ah well...it is Illinois after all...and they are just being honest...rather than having a Republican apply and then not be hired because of it, they are at least up front....how would anyone prove they were not hired because of political leaning? Be impossible...

Wouldn't that restriction be illegal on any job posting? Strange they would even try that.

Illinois is an open primary state, but the intent is still obvious: check voter records before hiring someone.

My late Catholic grandmother, finding herself widowed with a small son to raise during the Depression, was asked during an interview for a civil service job what her religion was (this was sometime during the early 1930's). She knew what the interviewer wanted to hear and she replied "Episcopalian".
She got the job.
I guess the more things change the more they stay the same.

This is probably illegal. Hope somebody is taking the Town of Joliet to court over this. The only kind of job where there could possibly be a party requirement is if it was for the party itself. That's not the case here.

Back in the 1930's and 40's the world had this little party in Europe called the National Socialists. Today in America we have a group calling themselves Democratic Socialists. Since I have always called a Spade a Spade and not an Agricultural Cultivation tool I tell it as it is. I have studied the two and they're is absolutely no difference between our Democrat Socialists party and Germany's National Socialist party. America's Democrats are N A Z I's and Germany's National Socialists are N A Z I's. Face Book doesn't doesn't like it when a Conservative tells is like it is, but the truth needs to be told. We are in great danger of losing our Democratic Republic. The Demonrat party's handling of the so called "impeachment" is a great example. Make your voice heard and make your vote count.

You can be CERTAIN that if a Republican applies....there will be some "other reason" that he/she won't be hired.

SO many people are represented by officials that are IQ deficient. All they know how to do is talk. Thinkin and knowledge isn't in their repertoire.

Perhaps it's a warning: just imagine what it would be like to be working amongst people who feel (… I was going to say "think") that way, while not being one of them.

You can vote in Illinois when you are dead, I wonder if this job would be open to those same people?
