The United States has a higher share of single-parent households than 129 other countries, a recent analysis from the Pew Research Center reveals. Twenty-three percent of U.S. children live with a single adult, Pew found, compared with an average of just 7 percent around the world. Of the 130 countries from which Pew obtained survey data, rates of single-parent households ranged from the low 20s in the United States and United Kingdom to as low as 1 or 2 percent in countries like Turkey and Afghanistan. The report suggests that America's record-high rate,

What is it going to take for the "woke liberals" to realize this is not a good thing. A single woman with four children by three different men - what could possibly go wrong?

This could be attributed to welfare programs. It could also be attributed to women carrying and delivering babies when baby daddy has made a run for it. (That can happen in some pretty upmarket families. Hunter Biden is the most recent example. Another was the bum who left a schoolmate with a child when we were in college. Single persons are now allowed to adopt; this was not always the case. I can see many reasons…
As for Turkey and Afghanistan, we don’t stone adulterers here.

I was in a meeting last week where one of the attendees who volunteers at a local childrens' hospital spoke about two 14-year olds who'd just had a baby and were going to keep it. How long before the baby-daddy decides that playing daddy isn't fun and leaves the mother?

The welfare state incentivizes this in the US. Make it easy to have children out of wedlock and live off the taxpayer and this is what you get. Our ongoing cultural degradation doesn't help (thank you, Murphy Brown). Toss in the lower class's lower IQs (black and white) and we have an epidemic of drugs, crime and feral young males running amok.

Look on the bright side! We are still number one in something...... Several posters have attempted to blame the single parent household problem on our 'welfare state'. Remember, most of western Europe has a more generous and pervasive welfare state than we do. That may be part of the problem, but there is something or things else at play here.

When I worked in retail management, until recently, all of the women with kids were divorced or never married. The young women were getting knocked up at an alarming rate—outside of marriage, mainly hispanic and filipino but definitely not all welfare gumbies (although they ended up on assistance since a minimum wage retail job does not pay the bills). Many of my parents’ friends had out-of-wedlock grandchildren born in the 80s and 90s—and they were all upper-middle class professionals who’d spoiled their kids terribly. Theses people then often allowed the grandkids to be dumped upon them to be raised. My mom’s only great grandchild was born out-of-wedlock because my nephew and his girlfriend ‘wanted a baby to love’...there are so many messed up people out there from all levels of society. Too much divorce, culture rot, easy welfare money—and more. It’s pandemic.

We can blame many things but when homes and pulpit do not teach girls and boys to wait for marriage, not much will change.

The end game of a rotting culture based on rat plantations and a media that can't wait to promote some shocking evil. Ultimately you have to go back to basics. If the parental unit is messed up and society makes not just excused for lousy behavior, but actually rewards it instead of discouraging it, you get what we got.

The government plays the role of husband/father better than the degenerates who actually father the kids. And they are degenerates because they were raised by the government. Vicious cycle that works very well for the dims' power base.

Created by the Great Society welfare system which was intended to re-enslave the blacks, this time by giving them welfare and getting them dependent on the government. So far, it has been working well.

Worked in WIC offices for 5 years. I was told at one office, a ten year old girl had a baby. The family would dump her off at the clinic and leave her all day. The nurses helped with the baby and warmed bottles and such. Bottom line, tho, if you're pregnant and not married, the government takes care of you and the baby to infinity and beyond. If you're married your and his income comes into play and most of the time you make too much for assistance. Now if the girl is unmarried and living at home, once the baby is born she is considered a family and head of household and even if the family income is 6 figures (yes, I had one of those once) she still gets all the freebies WIC offers.

The media wants to blame ONLY the fathers. Equal equal blame goes to the girls who
seem to give themselves and their self respect away so freely and cheaply. We need to quit making excuses and be honest.

#12 The other thing at play here is a family court system that treats divorced fathers as automatic bad guys only good for paying out child support. It's all for the children's "best interest."
Our laws are set up to encourage women to take the children and take their husbands to court to be divorce raped. Even the honorable men can see marriage has become a Sword of Damocles that wives can use to threaten their husbands with half their assets, steal the children ad 40% of all his future earnings any time they decide they're not happy.
Can anybody guess why men don't want to get married any more?

Yawn. Most of these women never bothered to get married in the first place. And a few thought it would be neat to have a baby. Brave new world, so to speak. Those of us who marry, raise our children and provide for the common good end up paying the tab for all these ''social experiments.''

It's way past time to cut off the welfare freebies. We're in debt and can't afford it.
And I'm sick of subsidizing fools through the taxes the gov at all levels steals from me at gunpoint.
If you don't think deadly force is involved, try not paying any of your myriad taxes.
Armed gov thugs will eventually show up at your door.
