A research scientist believes the US is in the middle of a 'Pig Bomb' - where feral hogs are increasing in huge numbers.
Dr. Jack Mayer, a zoologist whose been researching wild pigs for 40 years, has warned that the population could keep growing unless there is a swine flu epidemic.
His comments come just a week after a caregiver was mauled to death by wild hogs in Texas.
Christine Rollins, 59, was attacked and killed outside the home of the elderly couple she was looking after in what the local sheriff described as 'one of the worst things he has seen'.
It's unclear

Wait! Is this idiot HOPING for a swine flu epidemic? Look, I know wild hogs can be dangerous, but so can rattlesnakes and skunks and copperheads and alligators and . . . . ! This kind of hysteria is STUPID to the max. Yes, please let's eradicate EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM--after all, they're just a food source that keeps on reproducing.
Ever heard of wild hog hunts? Or trapping and butchering them?
There are ways to deal with this issue--and make a lot of money doing it, but the only thing you ever hear is hysteria and the need to wipe them out completely. It's both short-sighted and utterly stupid.

Both wild hogs and Canadian geese over population are a result of welfare. People used to hunt both of these for food.

We have Javelina out here in Arizona. Granted, they are technically rodents, not hogs and they don't get very large. But, I've seen rather large groups of them in both the Phoenix area and in Tucson of late. I don't recall such large "herds" - or whatever you call a group of javelina - when I was growing up.
They are scary when in groups! And they don't like dogs and dogs don't like them.
This article makes me think.

There are wild hog hunts going on constantly in Texas, there's a bounty for them in some areas. They are smart and are pretty hard to kill -- and their families are huge. I've sat on a back country road while thirty of them run across in front of me, usually in the morning on my way to work - I have no gun with me. They run through neighborhoods all over, in Houston, Fort Worth -- and you can't use a rifle where houses are so close together because it's just not safe shooting. Sounds easy to kill them all, but it's not. Get your AR-15 and come to Texas and have at them!

We need more hunters. All this free food is literally there for the taking. Even Gordon Ramsey filmed one of his episodes hunting, skinning, butchering, and cooking a wild hog.

Mostly wild hogs aren't very good to awful eating. Grind 'em up whole, package up and ship to China, they'll eat anything.

If only there was a way to match Florida's apex predator, the male Burmese python, with this four-footed apex pack predator as part of a controlled, managed experiment.
Chip the snakes so you know where they are at all times and let them gobble up the small ones. Let hunters deal with the adults.

Two possible solutions:
- Point them in the direction of Mexico wearing signs, "Free Pony Rides"
- Keep them along the border as a "living (& deadly) border wall"
- Ask Democrats to tax them all to death

Round the feral pigs up and release them in congress, the FBI, DOJ, State Dept, and the CIA, but make sure the doors are locked first.

Start paying $50 or $100 per carcass and then butcher them for homeless shelters and soup kitchens. I suspect the problem will go away. I’d be really surprised if it can be done without starting a gargantuan federal feral hog bureaucracy, and similar organizations with good jobs at good wages in each state, but bounties could work.

This is where the AR-15 is an excellent answer to a hard question. Deadly accurate at 400 yards if one is trained and has the correct scope that is zeroed in! The little .223 round is propelled out of the beauty at over 3,200 fps or faster than sound! Hits like a ton of bricks and takes down any problem oikster!
