Next year, Democrats will control both houses of Virginia’s state Legislature as well as its governorship. On November 18, State Sen. Dick Saslaw introduced a bill that he will sponsor in the 2020 legislative session. That bill will outlaw not only the sale or transfer but also the possession of certain firearms.
Saslaw’s bill — SB 16 — provides that “It is unlawful for any person to import, sell, manufacture, purchase, possess or transport an assault firearm” and makes such actions a Class 6 felony. (In Virginia, Class 6 felonies are punishable by imprisonment for between one and five years.)

Where does one even start to comment on liberal/leftist insanity like this? FBI stats for the latest years say there are 11-12K gun murders per year in this country. Out of those, less than 600 involve a rifle of ANY type. So this bozo wants to ban "assault" rifles that are involved in an infinitesimal number of gun murders.
Never mind self defense against criminals: I want the firepower of an AR-15 or similar weapon to defend myself from my government when it is inevitably controlled by self-righteous/power hungry leftists like Saslaw.

Virginia, you own this. This is what you get when you are too lazy to get out the vote. You have a bunch of liberals taking your guns away.

What Edmund Burke said. You cannot be complacent. You must be engaged. You must vote. Good men who stand by and do nothing will always enable the evil in men’s hearts. What has happened in Virginia is happening in other states too. Libs are moving in and taking over. They cannot do this to your beautiful states if you never ever vote for a democrat. We must shut them out. Period. When a party becomes this radical, it is going to take the rest of us to keep them from power. Vote in every election, but never vote for a democrat for any office no matter how small. Your future depends on it.

Virginians voted but we were outspent by Soros, Bloomberg and other totalitarians who sent big money to Virginia. We have also been over-run by liberal outsiders who want to remake this state like Maryland and other North East socialist states. Yes the revolution may start here in my home state, and the home of Washington, Jefferson and Madison. God once blessed us with liberty. Please pray that he will bless us again to preserve it.

Thank you, #12. You beat me to it. I lived in Virginia for 24 years and watched it slowly turn blue due to the expansion of government which began under Clinton and the huge influx of immigrants, both legal and illegal. The illegals are the ones who stroll across our southern border and the legal ones are the Indians, Pakistanis and Middle Easterners who come to work in the tech industry. It has nothing to do with conservatives not showing up to vote. Northern Virginia has simply been overrun by DC bureaucrats and immigrants. One other factor - take a look at the demographics in Richmond.

We are in the process of transitioning from a constitutional republic into a totalitarian state. Our current stage is the democracy our founders so feared wherein 51% can vote away the rights of 100%. The path to communism passes through democracy where our inalienable rights can be voted away. Tyranny of the majority.
Arlington and surrounding DC suburbs will tell people in Blacksburg VA how they are allowed to live just as the Chicago machine gets to define how people in La Harpe Il are permitted to live.
We non-urban folk aren't the ones who created the lawless cesspools yet the same policies that created them are being imposed on us.
I have long found it odd how the individual right in the 2A scares the tyrants when the collective right is what should keep them awake at night.

Geographically, 90% of Virginia is conservative. All of the liberal votes come from two areas of the state. Add to that massive voter fraud in Fairfax county (that the election officials refuse to be audited). If you go back and look at the 2016 election coverage, Trump led Hillary in VA with 95% of the vote counted. If you did the math there were not enough votes remaining in the 5% uncounted to give her the win. THe last votes to be counted were in Fairfax county.

Liberals think very little of the Second Amendment and this Saslaw clown doesn't even know the definition of an assault weapon but he writes a bill to ban them. They are already banned for civilian use, fool, and the AR-15 is not an assault weapon.
Virginia, since this is not really your fault but the fault of the invasion of government and elites around DC, you feel free to call on the rest of us for assistance when the shooting starts and you know it will.

Once again the term "assault weapon" is improperly defined by the gun grabbers. None of the firearms listed in the bill are true assault weapons. None except the hand guns and shot guns would find their way into military use.
A true assault weapon is fully automatic not semi automatic. The term is used by the left because "assault weapon" sounds nasty and Oh, an AR-15 has a black stock so that makes it scary.
The soldiers who have actually been issued, been trained in and used assault weapons must be sitting back and thinking to themselves boy what a bunch of morons!

Don't have a crystal ball. But predict the bill will be passed, one person will be arrested and charged, it will be appealed to the SCOTUS and it will be declared unconstitutional. Don't understand why people blame this on Soros money. Fort Knox doesn't have enough money to influence me on politics. On the first day of the fake impeachment charade I purchased my very first AR15. Haven't used it. Never seen anything this complicated. But I wanted on just to irritate the libs. If The Left gets away with this it's just the beginning. Eventually they'll get around to internal combustion engines, they'll seize my car, and I'll have to ride a mule. And I hate mules.

This is why a growing number of municipalities Virginia have passed resolutions making themselves 2nd amendment sanctuaries. This is no joke. Dems are all about total gun confiscation. It's how they intend to keep power. Not today, and not tomorrow, but it's out there.

#12 and #13, over here in the People's Republic of Colorado, we are in the same boat as Virginia. Outsiders and illegals have overrun the state. Together with a well-organized and well-financed deep state fronted by the Brownstein law firm and a complicit local msm, our legislature and governship are all solid dim now. But, a big problem here is a very disfunctional Republican Party leadership. Colorado was once crimson red, but the importation of for-pay politicians has tilted the balance. Sad what has happened here.

Like Virginia and Colorado, New Mexico has become a royal blue state. Influx of California license plates and Colorado and I don't think they are sightseeing tourist. New Mexico is conservative but Santa Fe and Albuquerque keep the state liberal. Gun confiscation could be next since they tried to ban gun shows but sheriffs of counties declared their counties sanctuary counties for gun ownership. It has come to that meaning they won't enforce the law.
Virginia just might become Bunker Hill where the civil war finally starts.

With laws like this proposed gun ban, the leftist and liberal Democrats are bellying up to end up with real adverse Supreme Court decisions. As long as there is a Second Amendment they risk that happening.

Being a sanctuary county may stop the County Sheriff from the confiscation, but it won't stop the State Police.
And don't believe for pone moment that the State Police Officers will refuse to confiscate because it's against the Constitution.
They will do as they are told.

This is who the Democrats have become, and why they must be thwarted.
And shame on the Virginia Republican Party, who failed to even field candidates in a critical number of districts.

If it's enacted, this thing won't stand. It will be tied up in litigation for several years until it gets to the Supreme Court and is ruled unconstitutional. If they try to enforce it, no one will comply. If they send people to confiscate guns, they'll run out of cops pretty quickly.....

It all depends on what the definition of "assault weapon" is. Assault weapons are semi-auto or fully automatic military weapons and have been banned in this country since the 1930s. This bill is targeting military-looking weapons that have been widely mislabeled as assault weapons, which they are not. They are semi-automatic and fully legal. This bill will not survive due to the part that says shall not be infringed. Don't Tread On Me suckahs.
