Queen Elizabeth II is apparently considering retiring in about 18 months so her son, Prince Charles, can assume the throne, reports in the UK said Wednesday.
The 93-year-old monarch is weighing stepping down around her 95th birthday, the same age that her husband, Prince Philip, withdrew from his royal duties, sources told the UK’s Express.
“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless,” a former senior member of the royal household told the outlet.
“I understand the queen has given the matter considerable thought and believes that, if she is still alive at 95,

I really like the Queen. I’ve always felt she deserved respect and that Prince Phillip was the sort you could have a decent conversation over a beer at the local pub. Prince Charles is too whacky for my taste. I was astounded Princess Diana put up with him for as long as she did. Andrew appeared to be the more sensible type but it is a shame he went off the rails. Whomever assumes the monarchy has their work cut out for them.

Oh good gawd. Charles embraces Islam. He was so stupid as a child they sent him away to boarding school. Image him and horseface as leaders. Perish the thought. The church should say two divorcees cannot sit on the throne.

What a shame if/when Charles takes over. I would settle for Charles abdicating before QE retires from the throne. Then the world would at least get Prince William.

# 6 - Charles was sent to boarding school because most boys of wealthy parents, in England, are. The sad thing is he was sent to one his dad had attended and thrived at. He is a man's man type of guy and Charles most definitely isn't. Charles was taunted, teased and mistreated for four years and said he felt like he was in prison. His mother wanted to send him to a nice school, Eton, but his dad all but said if she did that she would lose her marriage. Doesn't mean I want him to be King, tho. He is all wrapped up in pseudo-science, climate change, global warming, etc. Will would be so much better. And yes, I think it will make Camilla Queen, which is a disgusting thought.

I'm with #11. Charles is no friend of the U.S and he makes stupid choices like his brother Andrew. I'm hoping she has a change of heart and continue, but if she doesn't give it to William. That would also kill crazy Meghan....Harry's wife.

Bonnie Prince Charlie (as he was called in his youth) is dimwitted to the extent that he rarely knows what he is talking about.
He has the intellectual capacity of Rudy from Notre Dame fame, but no charm to match Rudy.
Charles has the potential to end the royalty system in England - that's how bad he is.
How does that compare to Queen Elizabeth? She was a teenager when World War II began, and she trained to be a military truck mechanic, and wound up
driving a truck for the duration.
Voltaire has been quoted as saying 'true liberty will not exist until the last king is strangled with the intestines of the last priest.' If Voltaire actually said that, he would not have had Queen Elizabeth in mind.

I don’t understand the necessity of a monarchy anymore. Whatever it’s charms it is a costly relic. Assuming it survives, too many male Windsor’s have proven themselves sexually licentious and stupid, even to the point of cruelty. Royalty is expected to embody the people and to behave in a way that inspires. Without the castles, the salivating press and the pomp and ceremony the Windsor’s are just another really dysfunctional family with tons of money.

Agree with #1s assessment of Charles. Never liked him and never will. William would be a great choice. Why take a fuddy duddy brain dead 71 year old and put him in that position? The queen has served since she was 25 years old and has been a class act. A little youth and energy would be good for the monarchy.

The Daily Mail pushed abdication a while back and it turned out to be nothing but speculation. Now they're pushing "retirement," and it is pure speculation again. QEII believes she's been chosen by God to be queen and has dedicated her life "whether it be long or short" to her people. She may scale back her commitments some, but she'll never do anything like retire or make Charles regent. Philip has been quoted as saying their goal is to live as long as possible so that Charles (the feminine hygiene product) has as short a reign as possible. Both QEII and Philip know Charles is a flake.

Charles finally had a chance to “get” his younger brother, who was his mother’s favorite. All those years… What a sour old puss he is.
“No one is bigger than the institution of the Royal Family. Not even Andrew, the Queen’s favorite son,” the source said. “Charles recognized that and acted decisively — like the king he may well soon be.”
My two bits say she’ll make him regent. Placeholder. He would then conduct many of the duties of the monarch while she stays queen. I don’t believe she likes Charles very much. He is eminently unlikable.

Those who diss Diana as an “adulteress” seem to forget that it was Charles who was wanting to be Camilla’s tampon at the same time he was marrying Diana. Diana was a very young girl. I have never heard or read anything that said she came to the marriage as less than a virgin. In fact, I believe that was probably a requirement. If she committed adultery (and it was more than a nasty tabloid rumor), then frankly I don’t blame her. She was trapped by then in The Firm with a husband who had loved someone else from before they wed.

Whoever is the heir to the British Crown Is set by law and the Queen cannot decide to will replace her when that time comes. Chances are if she does retire from what the British call “public duties” she will remain as the ruling Queen until she passes away, with Charles handling the day by day “public duties” until the Queen passes away. Then long-standing British law will say who succeeds the Queen.
Charles is over 70 years old and obviously has a serious health problem. He was recently in India where photographs were taken of him that showed his hands and feet were really swollen as he was entering a religious temple where he had to take his shoes and socks off. Other previous photographs of Charles in the media also have shown that his hands appear swollen. So who knows how long Charles will be around?

Sorry, but based on her previous statements, I am not buying any kind of retirement for her Majesty. She may start giving Charles more responsibilities in 18 months certainly. But she takes her vows to God and Country very seriously, she saw what the abdication did to her Father and to the country at the time. She is not going to do the same thing. Then there is the fact she knows the nation still loathes Camilla the homewrecker.
Charles is indeed a no class dolt and very selfish man. He could not even give Diana her biggest day that every Bride looks forward to, because he had to rub his mistress in her face. She saw Camilla too as she walked down the aisle. That double take of hers is on video forever. So the Queen has to do a massive selling job to the nation on the Dolt's behalf, because if Parliament has their say, it will be William not Charles who is crowned.
The Queen is in this for the long haul, and other than giving Charles more responsibility, I do not see her retiring.

Part of the title of every British monarch is " defender of THE faith ". The faith being Church of England, Anglican. Church of England came about when Henry VIII wanted a divorce to marry Anne Boleyn. It's no small thing that Henry disengaged from the Catholic church. Look at Ireland. Charles has publicly said " defender of faith"............not THE faith. This means he includes islam. Charles is an idiot from a family of dim bulbs. I like the Queen and wish her well. Her mother lived to be 101.

She can't #11, but Parliament can. They actually have to okay the successor according to what I have read from Brit citizens a couple years ago. I don't believe they have a huge problem with Charles, but as to Camilla, that is a whole different story and she and Charles know it.

With the passing of the crown to Charles the centuries of royals who at were at least regal and had dignity will come to an end. The younger generation are entitled and contribute little. Eventually the Brits will get tired of supporting their lavish unearned lifestyle.

Not that it matters, but when Queen Elizabeth 'goes', that is the end of the monarchy (not that I like monarchies in general; Good thing they have an elected government that actually runs things), and the end of Britain will soon follow, fallen to the muslim hordes and rampant leftism.
None of those in the line for King or Queen are sane or wise. I know William has a lot of fans, but he is merely the best of a bad lot.

The royal family is actually part of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Kaiser Wilhelm II and King George V were first cousins. The House of Windsor was established as an expedient way for the English branch to divorce themselves from the German line during WWI for obvious reasons.

Reading the posts from Americans talking as if they have anything at all to do with the Brithish Royal family is Bizarre. British traditional will make Charles King no matter what looney tunes things he may be up to. He has been preparing for it for 71 years and he will be. Not to worry there will always be people to keep him in his place. He has no real power except to spend money. And some of you really need to get over your obsession with his Diana, she was done wrong but she got in there and did her share of it too. He had one affair but She retaliated and had three or four. And yes they were documented. What’s good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander. Her life was built on shifting sand, and as adult she should’ve learned something along the way. But she didn’t.

I think the Brits are certainly at the point where they are tired of supporting extravagant life styles of the Royals at a time when many are living paycheck to paycheck and just barely getting by. While there are frugal members of the Firm (Princess Ann comes to mind) most spend money like it grows on trees and Meghan seems on track to bankrupt the family and taxpayers alike.
At this point the Brits seem open to abolishing the monarchy when the Queen passes away unless she skips Charles and makes William King. He might be the only way to save it. He and Catherine are loved and respected by the people.

Whatever. The British monarchy is a constant, great, reminder of the differences between the British Empire and the USA. So thankful for both sides of my family, the heroes and the villains who fled the Old World for the USA. If you want to love this country and I mean deep in your bones, read a few history books and then spend a month or two in the Old World. You will come back to a place that is too loud and too busy, but glorious in its ambitions and energy. Give me all the faults because I know someone is working hard to change things for the better. Many of us have no idea how lucky we are.
