CNN contributor and former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara is shocked by the news that an FBI agent allegedly altered a document used to attain a FISA warrant to spy on former Trump adviser Carter Page back in 2016, and through him on the entire Trump campaign. You know it’s bad when CNN is reporting this...@PreetBharara on altering a document to obtain a FISA Warrant: "really serious, it doesn’t get a lot more serious than that." pic.twitter.com/Z5QDd0dacA — Benny (@bennyjohnson) November 22, 2019 "Well, that's kind of an alarming bit of news," Bharara told Wolf Blitzer on Thursday.

Yet, the FISA judges seem unconcerned that the DOJ and FBI passed off fake documents to spy on a US citizen and a US Presidential campaign opponent. Why haven't these judges hauled in everyone who was involved in this fraud before their bench and read them all the riot act? Unless they were in on the plot, too. Which is really, really scary.

He's shocked because Hillary was supposed to win. If she had none of this would be coming to light. I can only hope that there will be prosecutions and not just reporting of "someone behaving badly" with a slap on the wrist.

Reading several different articles on this subject, it is clear that Durham has not stopped with the “underling” lawyer who actually manipulated the document. Someone above him steered that, and that is part of Durham’s investigation. I would not want Durham to be out after me. He looks and sounds like very serious business.

What about editing and changing 302's? What about editing and changing the findings on the Clinton investigation to exclude the legal definition of negligence, as reported by Comey? The FBI and DOJ change documents all the time to suit their purpose. The media writes everything they report to suit their purpose. That is more serious, Mr. Preet.

What a relief it is turn away from the maelstrom of American politics, and the endless speculation over whether Donald Trump asked for a quid pro quo in the hope of generating negative coverage about Joe Biden, to the placid backwater of Israeli politics, and the endless speculation over whether Benjamin Netanyahu asked for a quid pro quo in the hope of generating positive coverage about himself. How refreshing it is to stop wondering whether the Ukraine-impeachment circus is merely an attempt to reverse the voters’ decision and spin the 2020 election by replacing democracy with judicial process,

Pete Buttigieg’s polling strength is, as far as I can tell, based on one factor only: He’s a smooth talker. He speaks the kind of fluent Ivy League-technocrat-consultancy lingo that makes a certain kind of highly educated white liberal’s heart melt, especially when combined with an appealing sense of reasonableness and youthful, forward-thinking optimism. Alas for him, he can’t talk much about the wonderful improvements he made as two-term mayor of South Bend, Indiana, because they aren’t there. James Freeman of the Wall Street Journal, notes that South Bend has an extremely high crime rate for a city its size and that a recent program to provide housing

Shrinking violets don’t become presidential contenders. Still, even at the highest level of overweening ambition, Elizabeth Warren stands out. She has clawed her way to the top by hook and by crook. One of her favorite techniques is the bald-faced lie. As an academic, she is best known for an article claiming that medical crises are largely responsible for personal bankruptcies. Warren’s article has been used (as she no doubt intended) to promote socialized medicine, but it has been thoroughly debunked. See Gail Heriot’s analysis in the Texas Review of Law & Politics, embedded below. Warren’s deeply flawed, if not outright deceptive, article on “medical” bankruptcies largely made her academic career.

BRUSSELS — Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, was uncharacteristically furious. At a dinner to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, she huddled with President Emmanuel Macron of France, who had just given an interview in which he cited the “brain death” of NATO and wondered whether its commitment to collective defense still held. Mr. Macron had also been the sole leader to veto the start of lengthy membership talks for North Macedonia to join the European Union, despite Skopje’s having done everything Brussels had asked of it, including changing the country’s name.

An earlier essay on today’s dueling accusations of government-sponsored opposition research described past examples of the practice, including how members of the Watergate Special Prosecution Force (WSPF) had assembled investigatory files on all potential GOP presidential candidates going into the 1976 election: John Connally, Gerald Ford, Nelson Rockefeller, Robert Dole, and even Ronald Reagan. I concluded by asking if such abuse of process stretched back even further. Today’s essay answers that question by citing a multitude of examples from the 1960s, each lovingly documented by FBI testimony before the Church Committee. Some background on the Church Committee is in order.

In the classic Rorschach test, the psychoanalyst shows a patient a bunch of inkblots and asks what each looks like. The responses are supposed to help guide the psychoanalysis by offering insight into the patient’s idiosyncratic perspective. The test has its critics, and sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but it can offer a fascinating insight into the human mind. If every inkblot is perceived by the patient as another implement or accessory used in baseball, we may very well be dealing with a baseball fan. (As for Hermann Rorschach himself, he spent so much of his boyhood in Switzerland making inkblots

The goal of the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other Democratic Party leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives has been to use the impeachment inquiry to destroy President Donald Trump. They hope to impeach him, followed by conviction and removal from the U.S. Senate. Otherwise, they believe he will be so politically damaged that he will resign before the next election. Ironically, the exact opposite political result is occurring. The past two weeks, the nation was subjected to partisan impeachment hearings orchestrated by House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA).
