I recently spoke with an old acquaintance, just out of government, who had worked in the Intelligence Community in Washington. The venue was a neighborhood party in a deep-blue area of the U.S., in one of the highest of high-income ZIP codes.
As the lone conservative I tend to tread carefully in these discussions. However, I thought she might have a conservative bent, as she seemed to share my mistrust of government. When she first started working for the I.C., she told me she was waiting to meet "the adult in the room," as everyone she interacted with seemed clueless.

Just how do you change someone with that attitude? We see the same thing in many of our college kids. (I hesitate to call them youths, or young adults. because they act more like the little ones.)

The common useful idiot hasn't figured out that their party does much more of the dastardly deeds they despise and seek to suppress their republican opponents from doing. Thanks to Trump I no longer see the GOP as a defender of the American dream.
You know we have much to disagree on and I look forward to the day we can have substantive discussions about that but in the meantime we are being strangled by swamp creatures serving the interests of whomever lines their pockets which quite often turns out to be foreign entities.
Some of those entities are businesses and some of them are foreign governments. We have shown the world that despite all of our chest pounding over our American greatness, saving the world from the Nazi's, land of the free, offering a home for the common people with unprecedented opportunity, in reality we are up for sale. That freedom is a thing of the past and now the astounding wealth it manufactured is up for sale bit by bit.
Then along came Trump. The great disrupter daring to challenge the merchants of the sell out. And the useful idiots don't have a clue that the answer to their concerns over dictators and big outside influence stands before them because they are still under the spell of greatest scam artists in world history.

The same attitude is prevalent on military bases. Military commanders come and go and are given all the hoo hah and salutes, but the civilian counterparts are eternal and can outwait anyone they don't like. They also know everyone and have histories with them for decades.
I ran into that myself in the late 90's. We got two slots for Microsoft certification school. There were four of us in the shop; two old civilians (within a year of retirement) and two MSgts. (I was one of them) Both slots went to the civilians. When I questioned the civilian supervisor as to why, he said "you guys are just going to leave anyway".

Thank you, Mr. Latimer, for that glimpse into the thought process of the swamp. Now, since you've mentioned this particular party, and the conversation with your acquaintance, if she reads this article and-being a member of the IC-can put 2+2 together, she'll know a) she was used to exemplify the Praetorian Guard mentality of the bureaucracy, and b) you are a 'deplorable' Trump supporter. I hope, for acquaintance-sake, she doesn't unfriend you, This 'hate Trump' mentality simply mystifies me-that there are people who can so easliy abandon common sense like this-because they believe they know better and to hell with the Constitution and the word of law.

People like that woman are good examples of the swamp. They never have to work very hard, have many holidays, get time off whenever they need it, are protected from their mistakes and misdeeds, enjoy generous salaries and perks, and generous retirements at early age.
No wonder they want to protect the swamp! They know nothing else!

The same people running around decrying that Trump isn't a king were just fine and dandy with Barry Soetoro behaving like a tin pot banana republic generalissimo. If not for hypocrisy, libtards would have no standards at all.

I just need a straight answer from people like this as to why they support a truly dirty, bent, dictatorial big brother government with real Nazi style intelligence and law enforcement agencies that would crush them like a bug if they want to. Who wants that?

FTA:
"To them, the unelected bureaucrats are the real stewards of the government, not some outsider who just happened to win a presidential election. How dare Trump parachute in and disrupt the status quo? Never mind that he ran specifically on a platform to "Drain the Swamp" and make government more accountable. To her, Trump was just a gauche usurper, an outsider who had no business making changes to the almighty bureaucratic monolith."
Yes, this unfortunately has become the norm. I think that the only solution is to literally close the CIA. Shut it down, fire EVERYONE. We may be better off without their meddling and incompetence. I am sure it will cause some problems, but DIA should be able to pick up the slack.

#10, DIA is able to pick up the slack, but in my mind they are swamp critters, too. Most are in fact civilians and contractors, and having a uniform is no guarantee of being forth righteous and magnanimous. See LTC Vindman.

Agreed #11, but the uniformed members are not controlled by Civil Service laws, but by UCMJ, and I think that is a lot more controllable than the CIA. Get rid of ALL DIA folks not in uniform, for this very reason.
