It seems ludicrous that in an open society, a president could be impeached and possibly removed through a process that begins with a report by a bureaucrat whose identity is never formally revealed and who is immune from examination. After all, the impeachment process is an attempt to override the decision of the electorate as to who shall be president. It should not be undertaken, and certainly not consummated, without the fullest, most open process, including the possibility of investigating the origins of the process.

OP is spot on. The Powerline boys are hard core never Trumpers.
"Democrats say they can prove their case against Trump without the whistleblower’s testimony. That’s probably true." Really Paul, what case do the Democrats have exactly?
"With many of Trump’s defenses crumbling as the facts roll in..." Again Paul, let's see some specific facts that might qualify as impeachable offenses.

Paul M definitely a NeverTrumper.
The Left has definitely tried to change things for their enemies though. Kavanaugh was originally accused by someone of doing something sometime somewhere (none of these specified) and the Left tried to change the rules so that he had to prove that he was innocent of doing something to someone somewhere sometime.
The same Left will do their best to publicly display and humiliate anyone with whom they simply disagree.
This is one of the Left's standard double standards. Trump, his supporters, and pretty much anyone not on the Left should probably expect this type of treatment.

I don't want to name names, but, his initials are Eric Ciaramella. There, You Tube and Facebook, I said it.

There has been zero evidence presented that points to an impeachable offense. Leaked cherry picked quotes from unknown bureaucrats who have been asked to share their opinions do not qualify as evidence. I am continuously astounded by how stupid they think we are.

Once upon a time, I had a friend whose child was attending some very progressive nursery school and she told me, with some pride, that her daughter was being taught how to march. I got the impression that it was very much the school of "You vill march this way or else." Anyway, you sometimes get the impression that our non- deplorables are very much wanting us deplorables to march to their tune when it comes to this impeachment fiasco, OR ELSE.
Just perusing Mr. Mirengoff's essay, I came up with more than a few questions:
"...a president (his lower case, not mine) could be impeached and possibly removed through a process that begins with a report by a bureaucrat whose identity is never formally revealed and who is immune from examination." Really?
"...the impeachment process is an attempt to override the decision of the electorate as to who shall be president." Really?
"Democrats say they can prove their case against Trump without the whistleblower's testimony. That's probably true." Really?
"However, the president has the right to make his case." Really?
How very generous of the author to allow President Trump to speak. I often think that way too many of Trump's detractors do not like the fact that the President marches to a different drummer.

It would be political suicide for the wimpy Republican Senators to vote to remove President Trump because of what occurred on that telephone conversation between Trump and the Ukrainian President after a trial in the Senate.
If such a trial ever happens the Republican Senators must demand that the obviously bogus whistleblower testify in public about his or her totally hearsay compliant against the President, and identify the individuals assigned to the National Security Council in the White House who passed restricted and possibly classified Presidential and White House information to him without him having an official need to know.

Eric Ciaramella is NO whistleblower. He heard nothing whatsoever about the phone call first hand. Eric is a gossip, telling stories he heard from some other guy.
Eric is a traitor, a coward and a pajama boy, literally hiding out at his parent's home now.
Coward.
