In May 2019, a California jury awarded $2 billion to a husband and wife who claimed that the weed-killer Roundup caused their non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The defendant in the suit was Bayer AG, which had recently acquired Monsanto, Roundup’s manufacturer.
Crucial in determining the judgment was Alameda County Superior Court judge Winifred Smith’s denial of a request by Bayer’s lawyers to share with the jury the US Environmental Protection Agency’s recent determination that the active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, is not carcinogenic and poses no risk to public health when used as directed. “What is the relevance?” the judge is reported to have asked.

Just like they did to DDT. And they are now responsible for the millions of deaths that 'success' caused.

Bayer's sin was buying Monsanto which was the global whipping boy for Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) technology. The opposition to GMO technology is a religious movement and not based on any scientific rationale. The lawsuits against Roundup are the result of cynical lawyers who can exploit easily confused and emotionally driven juries into awarding large sums of money extorted from big rich companies and redistributed to poor little landscape workers. These awards usually get substantially reduced or eliminated in appeals courts but not before the lawyers wet their beaks on the proceeds with huge legal contingent fees.
The same scam is being run on Johnson & Johnson for their baby powder and their Fentanyl patches that had nothing to do with any opiod addiction crises. Any company that doesn't pay the extortion money and takes their chance in court with a jury usually loses the court case and spends a small fortune on the appeal. The winners are always the lawyers.

Only a California jury could come up with a $2 billion award. BTW, that award was reduced in July to around $100 million by a judge. Still, it's the kind of award one would expect after a nuclear power meltdown.
Is it possible that sequestered jurists in CA watch too many game shows in the hotel room ?

So socking it to Big Chemical feels good because, well, Big.
It's a given that everything Big works against humanity so there.

If glyphosate were truly hazardous, half the country would be terminally ill. I've been using the FarmWorks 41% stuff from Tractor Supply Company for years. Still alive and well.

I use 10 gallons of the concentrate a year. I went and bought 50 gallons to have a 5 year backup supply.

The same liberals that demand we respect their Michael Mann version of "Science" and brands any who has a different opinion SCIENCE DENIERS! cheer at “What is the relevance?” to the Science. You would think the reliability of their hypocrisy would be comforting, but it's not.

Jackpot justice. Court windfalls rampant in the USA also helps infuse money into the Trial Lawyers Association and hence into the DNC through Lobbyists. It's the Trial Court-Lawyer-Legislative Complex. It makes one want to impose a massive tax on trial lawyers when they receive this largess.
A Federal Law prohibiting lawsuits against any industrial company that are already subject to Federal regulatory oversight is needed. For example suing Drug companies when their oversight comes from the FDA would stop, unless they failed to comply with FDA regulations. "Big Tobacco" would be immune to all nonsensical cancer claims. Arms and Ammunition manufacturers could not be sued for mass-shootings, take it up with the Federal ATF, leeches.

It was around 1973. A bulletin on the radio said that products containing hexachlorophene were being immediately banned. I quickly ran out to the bulk store and bought two 2 gal jugs of the hand soap, Phisohex.
Phisohex works great for first aid situations. Beside it being an excellent antibacterial soap, it also slows bleeding and immediately starts clotting at the injury site.
To this day, I've always had a squeeze bottle on the bathroom sink, for when I do something dumb and I'm bleeding -- you know, the drip drip, can't stop, it kind of cut.
My only regret is that I didn't hoard Dial soap back then as well (also contained hexaclorophene). A bar would last forever, unlike today's products that evaporate within a week.
To all LDotters here that use Roundup, start hoarding now.
Also, totally agree with #1 - the lawyer ads, and the drug ads, should never have been allowed.

Do you like your fresh fruits and vegetables? Do you eat food that you buy in a grocery store, rather than your own pathetic weed filled garden? If so, you have Glyphosate in your body, and will die some day. No sooner or later than otherwise, but perhaps less wealthy if you have a California jury.

This RoundUp fiasco is damagig beyond belief. We are a better country than that. Only the United States has held out. Liberals are almost the agency of fear.

The judge questioned what is the relevance? This putz is a judge? He needs to be removed and Bayer AG needs to appeal his asinine ruling.

I've been using it for years & I continue to use the product. It's used outdoors, how did these people manage to inhale this stuff? Big $$ lawyers at work. They used to sue the Doctors , now they sue the drug companies. They go where the Big $$ are.
