I opined a while ago that all these aging pols are going to start making the Final Exit. 5-10 years will greatly change the makeup of Congress.

Unlike the vile, reprehensible dems who flock to social media to exult over the death of a perceived enemy (see: Scalia, et al.) I take no particular joy in his passing. Besides, there's always the possibility that whoever fills his seat could be worse.

Death comes to all of us regardless of whatever political persuasion we hold dear.
How a person lives and how much good they do for others following the example of Our Lord should be an example to others.
So let it be with Elijah.
All this division among different groups, factions, and political concerns ALL ends in Death, and things go on without us.
At moments like this, it should remind us to take stock of the eternal things and to soberly think of our own thoughts and motives and whether or not they are right and honorable in spreading God's love to others.

Picking up on #11's point, there's a cemetery in Switzerland with a sign at the entrance. The sign says "Voici l'égalité."
"Here is equality."
Politics stops at the gate. Representative Cummings was an American I disagreed with. Now he is no longer.
I wish peace and comfort for his family.

68? He was 68?
I would have bet money that he was in his 80's.
Oh, and standby for another Wellstone memorial style funeral. Least we forget that Trump took him head on.
Oh......and conspiracy theories out the wazoo. He's one of the dems investigating Trump. So, if it gasnt happened, Trump will be accused of taking him out.

He was that sick and still serving in the Congress! It's a shame that they won't give up power for the good of their constituents or the nation, and their power has to be pried from their cold dead hands. And, it's a shame that they have to die for us to get them out of office; otherwise, they'd serve for 40-50 years. Our founding fathers never wanted this for US. The expectation was that we'd have citizens who would serve a term then return to regular life. Service in Congress was not supposed to be a career with elite benefits.

I am, like most ldotters, a political junkie, and I follow the news closely.
Yet I do not remember seeing Cunnings shown in any video or news story, using a scooter to get around, or any other indication of failing health. It reminds me of the way the media conspired to hide any photos or film of FDR in a wheel chair.
I have questions about his replacement, his back child support, and his wife.
Will he be replaced by the former mayor of Baltimore? Or the Baltimore former DA? It is unlikely that Mrs. Cummings would get elected, since she will be going to prison for her fake charity, (Unless she gets an OJ jury.)

Uh-oh, Naci just lost an impeachment vote. Special election will probalby not be in time to fill this quota seat with another quota. Just put a little more pressure on a one term Dem 'moderate' somewhere in the House.

Was thinking along the same line as #21.
The left will blame Trump and the Russians, demand an investigation, and scream impeach the entire time.
If Cummings had health problems, why didn't he step down and spend more time with his family or spend more time working on his health problems? The only answer I can come up with is he was too greedy for his own good. Greedy for wealth. Greedy for power. Greedy for influence.
These people need to know when to walk away.

#34 I think it was the famous Attry. Clarence Darrow.
In Darrow’s 1932 memoir he wrote a short version that decades later would be suitable for tweeting [CDSL]:
"I have never killed anyone, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction."

If illness (including mental) was a reason for removal from Congress there would be a bunch of empty seats in the Capitol. Most of those people could not hold a real job so I have no idea why the residents of their districts vote for them. A study of voting psychology would probably find that many people simply mark a "D" or an "R" and get on the respective party "harvesting" bus to go back home, having no idea who or what they just voted for.
