Democrats meet to debate (again). Here are five questions that need to be asked

When Democrats gather for the CNN-New York Times presidential debate on Tuesday, note there are five big “donkeys” in the room. (They can’t be elephants at a Democratic debate.) First, the most obvious is that Hunter Biden earned $600,000 a year from a Ukrainian natural gas company.

Comments:

Questions about Hunter Biden, cutting off tax deductibility for any church or other religious institution that does not recognize gay marriage, mandatory gender indoctrination in public schools, medical care for illegal entrants, and questions about the unfair impeachment process. All good questions. I’d be surprised if any get asked.

It has all become a waste of time. Dems have narrowed the field to either Crazy Joe or Tomahawk Lizzie. If by chance they both get hit by a bus, then maybe Kamalala.

This is taking place in a suburb of Columbus, to the far NE of town. The entire city is going bonkers, expecting all sorts of revenue and "exposure." I can't even turn on local stations today. The only thing I can think is that they're still disappointed that we didn't get the Dem convention in 2016, and hoping this will be similar "exposure." Not sure how much good it did Cleveland back then, but Columbus has always had a sibling rivalry kind of relationship with Cleveland, despite our having been bigger than them going back to the 80's.

Even if those questions are asked (and I doubt they will be), my money is on Tulsi to go after Crooked Sleepy Joe. She cut Harris off at the knees, and CS Joe is just waiting for the coup de grasse. It will be epic. Dentures will fly.

What is an impeachable offense? Rep. Maxine Waters, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, says the definition is purely political: “whatever Congress says it is—there is no law.” She’s wrong. At the Constitutional Convention of 1787, the Framers debated impeachment of a president. Some argued for the power of Congress to remove the president for “maladministration” or other open-ended terms that appeared in several state constitutions. Others, including James Madison, opposed such vague criteria, fearful that they would turn the republic into a British-style parliamentary system, in which Congress could remove a president over political differences—effectively a vote of no confidence.

The 2020 Democratic candidate with whom the CIA whistleblower had a "professional" tie is Joe Biden, according to intelligence officers and former White House officials. Lawyers for the whistleblower said he had worked only "in the executive branch." The Washington Examiner has established that he is a career CIA analyst who was detailed to the National Security Council at the White House and has since left. On Sept. 26, the New York Times reported that he was a CIA officer. On Oct. 4, the newspaper added that he "was detailed to the National Security Council at one point."

Sweden's king has removed five of his grandchildren from the royal house. The decision by King Carl XVI Gustaf means the children no longer have the title of royal highness and are not expected to perform official royal duties. They will remain members of the royal family and retain their titles of dukes and duchesses. The change has not affected the king's two grandchildren who are in direct line to the throne. Observers say the move reflects a wider view that there is no need to pay so many members of the royal family for official duties.

Although Iran has increased its uranium stockpile, experts say Tehran is still a long way from a nuclear weapon. However, more uranium enrichment risks EU and UN sanctions, and renewed tension between Iran and the world. On Monday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that Iran had exceeded the amount of low-enriched uranium the country is allowed to possess under the 2015 nuclear accord, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On Thursday, Juan Guaido woke up and doused himself with a bucket of water. It was his shower. Like millions of Venezuelans, the man who dozens of countries recognize as the legitimate leader of his broken country can’t rely on the taps to run. “It’s one of the things I hate most,” the 35-year-old lawmaker said in an interview. “It’s a symbol of poverty, and during much of my life I had to do it.”

Are you a socialist? Quick! Spit it out. Yes or no. No looking it up in Merriam-Webster. No phoning a friend. Socialism and you: yay or nay? Ever since I visited Cuba last November, I've realized this is a question I am ill-equipped to answer at gunpoint. I'm speaking metaphorically of course. The country has a notoriously low crime rate. Prior to my trip, socialism had evoked pleasant associations. Health care for all. Paid parental leave. A fair rental market. The kinds of things you'd have to be a bit weird to dislike. Now I also see an old woman queueing up in a supermarket with a ration book.

A U.S. senator and former presidential candidate said the U.S. military should invade Venezuela if Cuba does not immediately remove its security forces from the country, calling Cuba the Western Hemisphere’s version of Iran. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed posted online Wednesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who leads the Senate Judiciary Committee, favorably compared potential military action in Venezuela to the U.S. invasion of Grenada in 1983, an operation that lasted about a week and led to the overthrow of the Caribbean nation’s military-run government.

During the October 15, Democrat debate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke made clear that AR-15 owners who refuse to hand over their guns will have them taken away. O’Rourke reiterated his plan to use a government-mandated buyback to confiscate privately-owned AR-15s and AK-47s. In so doing, he claimed that each AR-15 and AK-47 in private hands is a “potential instrument of terror.” CNN’s Anderson Cooper then asked O’Rourke how he plans to get people to hand over their rifles. O’Rourke responded by explaining that he expects complains with the mandatory buybacks. He said, “I expect my fellow Americans to follow the law. The same way we enforce any provision

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts was the big winner Tuesday night in Westerville, Ohio in the most crowded presidential debate ever held. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., also delivered strong performances. Former Vice President Joe Biden and the other eight candidates on stage came out the losers in the three-hour Democratic presidential primary debate. Warren’s strong performance will likely solidify her frontrunner status ahead of Biden and Sanders. She emerged the clear winner of the night by showing she was sharp and prepared as she fended off attacks from candidates who were looking to cut into her polling lead.
