Beto O’Rourke Is Turning

Given his low and static polling, it’s hard to tell what, exactly, Beto O’Rourke hopes to accomplish by staying in the presidential race. But while his actual goal seems a bit elusive, he is increasingly playing a very specific role: the human straw man, the embodiment of every seemingly irrational conservative fear about what the left really wants. Consider O’Rourke’s appearance at Thursday’s CNN town hall on LGBTQ issues, at which he told moderator Don Lemon that churches and other nonprofits should lose their tax exempt status if they oppose same-sex marriage, a position tantamount to declaring war on Catholic parishes and evangelical congregations across the country, not to mention

Slate is giving a new and perverted (no pun intended) meaning to 'straw man.' There is nothing unreal about Peter the Homosexual. He says this stuff, and apparently means it. Take away tax exempt status from organizations who are not on board the perverted Pullman sleeper car - that is as clear a position one can hold. (I watched the opening of SNL last night. They did a good job making fun of the D candidates, for a change. But they were not tough on Peter the Homosexual failed mayor. All of his ideas were good, was the message, and why was he not doing better in the polls.)

I couldn't honestly argue that Pope Frank would maintain the marriage ban if it came to a decision between gay marriage and tax exemption. As for mandatory gun buybacks, American patriots have a little more say in that matter. It's going to take a lot more than a wimpy dork like Beto to frighten anybody into giving up their Second Amendment rights.

Yes #1, there are. But what I don't understand is how an otherwise smart person thinks this idiot is a viable candidate. Last night I was speaking with a very bright woman who suddenly stated she thought Beto would make a great VP. I didn't say anything (you can't these days) but my jaw certainly dropped.

Punishing opposition to homosexual 'marriage' is merely the first step. Soon failure to succinctly support will be the great crime. Then the hesitant weakness of your 'Sieg Heil' salute will be the excuse. Haven't we seen this movie?

No, Robert Francis didn't do well in Texas because of his sparkling personality, Kennedy-ish lock of hair or brilliant ideas. A hefty percentage of his vote was because many Texans felt betrayed by Ted Cruz.

I cannot wait to learn more about the identity and motives of the secret whistleblower who figures so prominently in stories of Trump’s phone call with the newly elected Ukrainian president. The narrative that began a month ago, as an insider’s accusation of Trump’s threat to cut off U.S. military aid unless investigations were launched into his expected opponent Joe Biden, has evolved considerably. It now appears — in spite of initial denials — that the whistleblower consulted with House Intelligence Committee (HIC) staff before filing his complaint — and was advised immediately to obtain counsel. Somehow, the chosen counsel was part of a whistleblower search organization,

Abbott sent Adler a letter giving Mayor Adler 30 days to deal with the homeless situation in the city or else. Here’s how the Dallas Morning News reported Abbott’s letter: Abbott sternly wrote Austin Mayor Steve Adler and admonished him for not reversing the City Council’s June rescission of prohibitions on sitting or sleeping in public and panhandling in certain parts of the city that didn’t specifically prohibit it. Abbott cited news reports about used needles and feces littering certain locations, and the arrest early last month of a homeless man

The northern snakehead is a long, blotchy-patterned fish that can breathe on land and travel on the ground by wriggling its slippery body. But those might not be the species’ most nightmarish qualities. Snakeheads have a voracious appetit; they've been known to chow down not only on other fish, but also crustaceans, reptiles, mammals and small birds. They are invasive to the United States, threatening to displace native species and upset the balance of aquatic ecosystems. The fish have been reported in more than a dozen states across the nation and, as Christine Hauser reports for the New York Times, they have now been found

There is no easier way to make the left mad than being a gay Republican. This time, it’s the Stonewall Democratic Club that’s up in arms. Stonewall is a group of LGBT Democrats who purport to champion “equality for all.” You wouldn’t know this from their record. Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) during his first term. These acts outlawed gay marriage and military service for openly LGBT soldiers, respectively. It took 20 years to undo that codified discrimination. But Stonewall endorsed Clinton for reelection in 1996 anyway.

It all started with a business deal gone bad. In 1963, Henry Ford II, "the Deuce," decided he wanted Ford Motor Company to go racing. The only problem: Ford didn't have a sports car in its portfolio. The quickest way to acquire a sports car, the Deuce thought, was to buy Ferrari, then a race car company that only sold street-legal machines to fund its track exploits. Ford sent an envoy to Modena, Italy, to hash out a deal with Enzo Ferrari. The Americans offered $10 million, but as the negotiations neared their conclusion, Ferrari balked at a clause in the contract that said Ford would control the budget

All of Washington has been atwitter with the president’s recent decision to draw down American forces from their ongoing mission in Syria. The reason is the purported American abandonment — betrayal, in the eyes of many — of the Syrian Kurds. But the situation is more complicated than that. There has been much conflation of both the American mission in Syria and the disposition of America’s erstwhile Kurdish friends. The fact is, despite being the world’s largest stateless ethnic population, sharing a contiguous landmass that cuts across Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran — roughly a 500,000-square-kilometer area — the Kurds are by no means a monolithic entity.
