"No one is above the law," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as she announced the Democratic effort to impeach President Trump over the Ukraine matter. The phrase has become a Democratic mantra in the new impeachment push. But it could, in the end, serve to highlight the weakness of the Democratic strategy.
The reason is, by stressing that Trump is not "above the law," Democrats are basing their case against the president on the argument that he broke the law and must be held accountable. But it's not at all clear that Trump broke any laws in the Ukraine matter. In the face of a vigorous Republican defense, any argument

No one should ever be above the law! That being the case, the plethora of sore losers who have sought to steal the 2016 election, then, with character assassinating lies, harass and unseat our President, should be perp-walked in orange jumpsuits and incarcerated.

Trump is not above the law. What exactly did he do? Let's talk, rather let's do something about the miriad of lawbreakers starting with the Clintons, and the legion of lawbreakers that have followed. IE, Obama, Biden, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Lerner, Rice, Strzok, Page, and on, and on, and on . . . . They are the ones who have been held that they are above the law. A dual set of laws prevail in this country! It must stop!

This article is so full of legalese, defining and redefining what the "law" is that was supposed to be broken.
Lay people hear that Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ANNOUNCE that "no one is above the law" and we all laugh because we've seen too many instances where we know that is not true.
The poor cat lady in some state is given ten days in jail for feeding stray cats in her neighborhood (that really happened recently in one of our states), or the little boy in kindergarten is charged with "sexual harassment" because he hugged a girl on the playground. It seems that this is what our justice system is about now. Those who have money and power end up being "above the law" when they have broken laws that are easy to define, but they want to impeach the President for breaking some "law" they have trouble defining and will continue to ignore those who break laws that everyone understands. It's very worrisome.

Really, Speaker Pelosi??? No one? Not even Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Jim Comey, John Brennan, Eric Holder, Valerie Jarrett, Susan Rice, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, etc.? Better think hard about what you're claiming.

Yes, it could backfire, because the accusations are absurd on their face and any rational person KNOWS it. Trump asked for cooperation on two clearly alleged criminal matters. We have an agreed treaty that the US and Ukraine can cooperate on criminal investigations.
As to the argument that Trump is receiving political benefit by receiving assistance in an investigation of a dem, consider the absurdity of this. If Trump's administration investigated ANY dem, you could argue that Trump received a "political" benefit. Applying the dem "standard", that would suggest that Trump could never request assistance to investigate ANY dem, an argument that is risible, although I'm sure the dems with all their baggage would greatly desire it to be so.
Considering backfiring, there are so many dems that may be facing criminal charges in the next year that the phrase "no one is above the law" may be one that the dems learn to vehemently hate.

As usual, Byron York is a well reasoned and logical journalist. Democrats are acting just like the car chasing dog that one day catches the car, only to find itself not knowing what to do next. They've announced Impeachment, but now they must figure out what comes next. Two and a half years of Mueller-drama and endless hearings have numbed the American people into complacency. And now, Democrats once more want to invade your home and take control of your TV set. Hearing fatigue has already taken its toll on Americans.

"Tell Vladimir that I can be more flexible after the election." IOW, screw the American people after they are stupid enough to put me back into office for another four years. And he did.

Crime almost never backfires on the dems. Not much worry there until the AG starts doing something about their multiple crimes, past and present.
